When and where are you booked ?
Boston to NOLA, November on the DAWN-14 nights (Bill & Ruth are booked also)
We're in Vegas now, but when we get home Barb is checking to see if she can get time off so we can do the Pearl in May (Alaska). Noticed today some good pricing-I hope it's still available for us until next Friday. I have an email in asking if they can put a hold on a cabin till then, but haven't heard back. I know that's outside of the time limit they normally will hold, so if they say no, I understand

I know I need a Passport and a drivers license and a credit card to board.
Passport & DL? I don't sail often, but have they changed the rules to where I need to bring both?
(I see Lori posted while I was typing ;) )
-
We were on the Getaway three weeks ago, and they wouldn't let anyone do that. You could use any restaurant with the same or lower price than Le Bistro. We ate at Moderno, and it was really good -- But Le Bistro is still better.
Bummer for me...I like Cagneys, but I'm certainly not complaining
Maybe that's just a 'big hurkin' ship thing for some reason...if not we'll do Le Bistro twice
thanks Bill

Hey !! Who woke you up ? This isn't a HOTDOG thread -- or have they replaced the steaks in Cagneys with HOTDOGS ??? lol
I will check tomorrow on the Star.
ROTFL-check the last few posts on the 'stop the 15% drink gratuity' thread ;)
If you're sailing tomorrow, can you check for me & see if Platinum members can still pay the difference on their comp LeBistro meal & eat in Cagneys instead?

If we wind up not going, no complaints from me. It's just one more day of relaxing on the ship, without having to get up early and get the kids and wife moving for breakfast and rushing off to get to an excursion.
I feel that way about some ports...but I just sleep in and have a nearly empty ship for the day :)

I don't agree with this!!!
And I agree with you!
Hi there SW!!

Just wanted to add my 2 cents to the OP on this if you don't line to tip STAY HOME. OMG the Gaul of this person. Obviously doesn't get it. I haven't even read the replies his/her post just enraged me. And no I am not in the service industry but I do however believe in tipping.

tipping is one of those hot topics that never seems to convert anyone from one side of the argument to another (but I happen to agree with you :) )
But despite my belief, I'm also a camper so those who say that someone should just stick to camping (as someone did above) should take a long walk on a short pier ;)

I wonder what brand NCL used for their hotdogs

Oh, I'm glad they don't use Oscar Mayer weiners

Is there a stat for this goodie but oldie thread?
3 yrs old and just keeps getting under ppls skin =)
I think it would be hilarious if OP came back to see what he has started. =)

ROTFL-HotDogs anyone ;) (Zone knows what I'm talking about)

I did tip him extra at the end of the cruise as he WELL deserved it!
The staff was very kind and unobtrusive. All you had to do was catch their eye and you had anything you wanted. Food in Le Muse was outstanding as well as the small breakfast and lunch provided on the One Pool deck.
I'm spoiled rotten and don't think I'll be able to go on another line. You'll never get this kind of service unless you go on the luxury lines.
:D:D:D:D
I'm new to MSC and expect to book with them soon. Since you mentioned tipping the butler, any opinions on what would be an appropriate amount for this type of service? I just wouldn't want to 'underappreciate' him ;) (yes, I know tip amount can vary widely, but I'm just looking for opinions) Thanks

The few people who have done both and offered their opinion, the haven and yc, all pretty much say the same, ncl rooms are generally bigger compared to yc1 cabins but the service and perks on msc blow the haven away. With a yc2 or yc3 cabin the difference might be a closer wash.
I know our family suite on the dawn was a heck of a room. But no haven :(
Thank you! I've written to my TA for quotes. Really hope to give MSC a try. (probably April or May)
-
I'm also unfamiliar with MSC, but have to admit, quite intrigued. For the regular balcony (nonsuite) cabins, which have bigger (relative term I know) balconies? I'm most familiar with NCL and Some of the B1 'aft' balconies are enormous. (btw-we're also looking at the Yacht Club, as we're familiar w/Haven on NCL, but that's a totally different discussion) :)

We haven't done excursions in ISP. Did do the forest walk, starts right behind the cannery and makes a big look thru the woods and along the beach and back to the cannery. Quit scenic and a nice leisurely stroll. Much of the cannery is redone as a museum. I'm pretty mellow much of the time and really enjoyed ISP

We've cruised Alaska a few times, 3 of which had Tracy Arm on the itinerary. Although all of them 'entered' Tracy, only one got within eyesight of the Glaciers (and by 'eyesight'-way in the distance I could see a little bit LOL). If it were my one opportunity to visit Alaska, I'd prefer a Glacier Bay sailing, but it's not at all like Tracy is a disappointment. It really is gorgeous in the fjord itself :)

LOL-I was thinking "darn, that looks pretty nice either way" -
From TFA:
I wonder how many people call up every cruise line with all sorts of stories - some true, some not? Where does a cruise line (or any other business) draw the line. How would they verify these stories? Gramma died? Dog died? Lost my job? Wife left me? Arm fell off?
These articles and stories always describe how evil the corporation is, but never really suggest any sort of reasonable solution. This article turns out to be a little different than most though. It does point out an existing solution.
I don't mean to be callus and cold about these folks' particular set of circumstances, but do we really need another "thoughts and prayers are with them" post? How about some solutions?
Had to change some plans because of illness a couple months ago. Airline waive change fees with a letter from the Dr on his letterhead. Dr gladly provided same
Rebooked vacation is in 2 weeks :)

Our flight into Orlando was 2 hours late. We missed the shuttle we were scheduled for, but we had called Wanda to tell her we would be late. She arranged to have a friend meet us and escort us to a different shuttle service which she uses in these kinds of situations. We were very pleased with the extra care given by Cruise Express.
When she took you to the 'new' shuttle...did they honor your price with her?
-
Thanks Wineaux-I'll keep this in mind as a possibility
what is "fairly" late? If it's after 9pm then the Grinder is your only option which is just a block away from the CP on Harbor Blvd. It's a Denny's, Coco's, Carrow's style of restaurant.Yep-I got it at $60 on Priceline-and I'm a happy camper
I don't know if this has already been posted as I didn't read the entire thread but the CP has GREAT rates on Priceline....you can usually get a precruise room for between $60 and $75 per night.Sounds like cab should be about a wash (pricewise) for two people compared to Super Shuttle to the CP-thanks for that info! :)
I think I read that cab fare is in the order of $30 from LGB to port.
-
Jeeze-maybe they should just raise the price of the drinks 15%, 17%, 20% (whatever) and pay that extra to the btenders, make no mention of drink tips and make this type of discussion moot :). to me, it's all the same
-
Yes, they pay, and no, they don't get paid. It is a good rate, but not at all free.
That's a job I wouldn't want then
I think he was being facetious!!!Nita
As is often said in the main show rooms "BINGO!"
-
I think the employees get on the ships for free...in fact, I think they get paid to do so ;)
Maybe it's some sort of super secret insider rate LOL
-
I had planned on doing that tour with them last trip and ended up just spending the day around the waterfront. I was doing the Chef's Table that night and decided that it would make just too long a day.
That was the same reason we changed our mind about touring with them. And like you, we just spent the day along the waterfront. (and we really enjoyed the CT)
-
Darn--just got another reply from a different person at AP-
He says to just let him know if we're interested in this tour (or the combo tour) and he'll meet us at the fountain.
-
Talk about timing-I just got a reply (I wonder if they monitor this board)...only thing is that AP says that the port schedule indicates that the Triumph won't be there on Dec 13=so no reservation (and I've verified with my itinerary and a couple independent websites that we will).
Guess I'll just wait till we arrive & if I can find a tour fine-if not it'll be an extended beach day-which isn't a bad thing either
