Have done many excursions not using the Cruise line. Never had a problem. 

Most ,if not all pier runners are people that go to a bar for the day and stay too long. Haven't read where an excursion company returned late and the people missed the ship. You would see it on the web, twenty to thirty people all running down the pier.

I don't see that happening .

We have used Cortran several times. Very reliable,

You can bring your own snorkel equipment. If you go out by the end of the pier there are some fish hanging around. Other than that , not much to see.

There should be one dress up night.

Wife and i don't drink alcohol and enjoy cruises ( 51 of them ). We do order virgin drinks while at the pool. 

Serenity is 21 and comedy is ok at 18

I would go with the 3:30 flight . 

We did this once in opposite direction. Took an Uber without any problem. As mentioned, no need to hurry off ship. 

The pool by the dolphins is still there. The new pool is pretty big and yes it is by the wave runner. Quite a few loungers available around it.
