  1. Kim! I almost had a chance to meet you! I was on the Regal Princess, which was the other ship in port with you on the Amber Cove day. I witnessed the sky ride incident where the guy was stuck on it for about an hour and they had to crane him down. That was quite a show-and a bad reflection for carnival on their new ship. It was interesting to see for sure.

But the Vista looked beautiful from the Regal and I hope to one day sail her. BTW have you ever tried Princess? I really liked the Regal-it was elegant and it had the BEST food I have ever had on any of my cruises. The Lido deck on that ship is AMAZINGGGG and knowing you are a foodie, I bet you would love it!

But if you do book the royal or regal and want a balcony-book deluxe or higher. The standard balcony room is TINY with an equally TINY bathroom (let's just say sitting on the toilet you feel like you are almost in the room lol) with small balconies. But the rest of the ship I loved-you should try those ships.

Wish I could have seen you in the DR....maybe some other time!

Good to know, sailing Royal Princess later next year

  2. Very interesting stats!! Thanks for sharing. The maximum number of crew will always be an issue since you can only have as many crew as you have crew cabins. We heard about this directly from the Guest Services manager when we had a Behind the Scenes tour of the HAL Koningsdam which also has service issues - especially in the MDR. If they want to add more crew to the MDR, another department (such as Housekeeping) has to give up people and no one wants to do this.

We were on KDam last month but never ate in the MDR but noticed it seemed a lot more people ate dinner at the buffet on KDam then we saw on Vista. For the most part it seemed bar service and food lines were reasonable on K-dam, Vista was not the end of the world but was pushing it for us in many areas. I think it's stuff they can work out though.

  3. LOL, was there anything at all that you liked?

Fahrenheit 555 was very good, the air conditioner in our room worked very well, the red frog pub and brewery was good as well as Andy the entertainer in there, the bbq was very good, the casino was pretty kind, just to name a few...

It's not necessarily that I didn't like I'm just critiquing a bit I guess. We were just on Holland America's new ship a month ago and definitely did not feel as crowded as we did on the vista, and the Lido buffet lay out, serving stations as well as the quality of food were far better on the Koningsdam. Never had to wait in a line at the Dive In(HAL Guys Burger type joint) or really anywhere for that matter. I would go on the Breeze any day but would not be as excited to travel on the Vista again, but don't regret that we did.

  4. Went on the 12/11 Carnival Vista cruise and I agree with what Gopearl has written. I'm a Carnival Diamond and overall I was disappointed with the ship design, particularly the atrium area-- no glass elevators a signature feature of a Carnival ship. The atrium feels "cold" with a lack of elegance. Carnival has gone on the cheap cutting capital expenses where possible, cutting payroll, and other expenses and that ultimately will make Carnival a less attractive option. There's a lot of competition out there

No glass elevators and the elevators they do have are pretty small and not well ventilated.

This was our 13th. CCL cruise and I definitely felt crammed on this ship, preferred Breeze way more.

We had a spa cabin on deck 14 and had access to the thermal spa, this was the smallest thermal spa on a ship we have ever seen, just a small hot tub that holds maybe 8-10 at the most and over all just not very appealing.

The public restrooms were also the smallest Ive seen, not sure about the women's room but the mens room just outside the Liquid Lounge was very small and only had one small sink.

We still had a god time on the cruise but there were many little things that you really noticed they've cut back on or down sized.

Not sure what the deal was around the Lido buffet but the floor was extremely slippery.

  5. I am back from the cruise on 12/11 to 12/16. This was my 13th carnival cruise and first on VISTA. The VISTA is beautiful but understaffed and crammed with too much. No one should have to wait 2 hours for room service at midnight. No one should wait 1 hour for pizza on LIDO at 12 midnight. The walking/running track is located next to shuffleboard and mini golf. The result is an inability to actually walk/run on the track.

Additionally, the floor in the Marketplace on LIDO is slippery as all get out. They need to fix this before someone gets hurt (if they didn't already).

Who decided the Serenity area should be right next to the Waterpark/splash zone with tons of kids. I didn't use Serenity. I had my 5 year old with me. However, I felt bad for those above the area in Serenity that probably heard all the screaming kids having fun in the splash zone.

I liked the mezzanine to the main pool area. The dive in theatre accommodated more people and there was plenty of lounge space up on deck. This was the only improvement I saw from the other classes of ships.

I second the slippery floor in Lido market, thought it was the shoes I had on but walked in there with other shoes and just as bad.

  6. Just off Vista Friday and we too had a deck 14 spa cabin. We thought the elevators were very small even though max capacity says 18, we never got close to that but several times felt very crammed as well as very HOT on them. You usually deal with packed elevators the first day and last day of cruise but this time it was like that the entire cruise. We would usually take the elevator to floor 12 if not lucky enough to catch one of the two that went to 14 and walk up one level, same for going down.

  7. Run, don't walk, Run away from NCL. Food is nearly inedible unless you eat in their pay restaurants. I will NEVER sail NCL again. YUCK!

I was just on Vista and thought the same thing about the Lido buffet, not that Escape was much better but at least you didn't have to wait 30 minutes to get it. The Escape had a wide selection of pay restaurants that wee all very good. I only did the steak house on a vista and it was very good.

  8. Am I correct in thinking there is no savings with a beverage card?

Seems to be just another way to manage your on board expenses. I did take advantage of having a few 6-packs delivered to the stateroom. I don't see much savings there either but I do like having it readily available and not having to run all the way to a bar to grab a beer so I can sit on the balcony and enjoy a sun set.
