  1. I also received an updated invoice for our cruise on Navigator last night, but I had just completed online check-in so it showed the addition of passport numbers and C&A number for my husband.

The only thing you didn't mention which has triggered a replacement invoice for myself before was a change in dining from MTD to traditional (I was on a waitlist). Would that be applicable to you?

We did online check in in mid August and that triggered a new invoice for the same reason you mentioned. We have been on MTD since we booked the cruise so this is not it either.

  2. I have just booked the 4 night dining package for our transatlantic cruise in November. I understand that they make a courtesy reservation for the first or second night of the cruise and they we sort out the remaining reservations when we get on board. As I am expecting the second night to be formal night, I have gone with the first night. Navigator has 4 restaurants that are included in the deal. I don't mind which restaurants we will eat at for the first night out of Izumi, Giovanni's Table and Sabor's Modern Mexican. However, I have my heart set on Chop's Grill for my birthday. If for some reason they assign us Chop's Grill for the first night, can we still change that once we get on the ship?

  3. Over night I received a new invoice for our cruise on Navigator in November. I absolutely have no idea what triggered this and I cannot see what has changed from the previous version. On previous occasions, I had a new invoice when a payment was made, when the room was assigned, when I added passport details/ Crown and Anchor numbers and when our flights were assigned for a cruise where we booked flights through Royal Caribbean. I can for the life of me not figure out what has changed. I wondered if there had been a change in itinerary. What other things can trigger a new invoice?

  4. Our transatlantic cruise in November is not listed yet, but the 12 night cruise before ours is and is $249 for all photos so I am hoping it will be the same for us. I also checked the transpacific cruise on the Explorer in October as we are doing the cruise in the opposite direction in April and for that all photos are also $249, which I thought was a fabulous deal.

  5. This is classified as young adult fiction, but I find the books hugely enjoyable as an adult, too. Kingdom Keepers Shell Game and Kingdom Keepers Dark Passage are both set on the Disney Fantasy. They are books 5 and 6 in the series and Shell Game starts at Walt Disney World before switching to the Disney Fantasy.

  6. I don't think the Quantum class ships (Quantum, Anthem and Ovation) ever have formal night on the entire ship. They only have formal in the formal dining room, The Grande. So, it is formal night each and every night there, although they don't require jackets on the first and last night for men due to luggage arriving and leaving.

That was my understanding before our cruise as well. However, we did have two ship-wide Royal Nights. This was on the May 10th Barcelona to Dubai cruise on the Ovation.

  7. We did the 16 night Barcelona to Dubai cruise on the Ovation in May. We had two Royal Nights and a Black and White Night.

There were DreamWorks characters on the ship. We had King Julien, Alex, Gloria and the penguins from Madagascar; Shrek, Fiona and Puss in Boots from Shrek and Po and Tigress from Kung Fu Panda. They did not offer the character breakfast on our cruise, but I was told that they would start them once the ship reached China.

  8. Our only disappointing cruise was on Carnival. Good to get it all out of the way at once! They did have great pizza, though.

We have only cruised NCL, Disney and Royal Caribbean. Nearly did a cruise on Carnival last year out of Miami, but ended up doing a cruise on Royal Caribbean out of Dubai instead. I am so glad we did. Already I managed to cross of some bucket list destinations by switching to Royal Caribbean and we have two pretty exciting cruises booked. We love Disney, but they keep doing the same itineraries over and over again.

  9. Is this something new with NCL? We love their Freestyle Cruising philosophy, but I am pretty sure we were able to make dining reservations.

I agree, there is room for several schools of thought. Cruises are not supposed to be stressful.

They may have changed this since our one and only cruise with them, which was in spring of 2009. I was really excited about the Freestyle concept beforehand, but at least on our cruise, the execution was lacking.

No, I fully agree with you there. Cruises should be fun and relaxing and with the exception of this one cruise, all of mine have been just that. I am sure our next two cruises will be as well.

  10. I was going to say the same thing. If you're going to make a reservation, use the traditional dining times and leave MTD to those of us that want to use it as intended.

OK, I am going to bite. What happens to people for who early traditional dining is too early and late traditional dining is too late? 5:30 and 8:30 are kind of the opposite extremes. Also, what about people like me that like to have a variety of different dining times, but also want the safety net of a reservation?

As they say, once bitten, twice shy. I know that my experience was on a different cruise line, but one of my co-workers, who is an avid Royal Caribbean cruiser tells us horror stories of his one and only time of trying My Time Dining. This was on Mariner before she headed to China.

So where does this leave us? Should we not cruise?

There is also the little bone of contention of leaving MTD to those that want to use it as intended. I would think that if people purely walking up to the dining room when they are good and ready was what Royal Caribbean was intending, then they would not allow or even encourage advance reservations. When we sailed on NCL this was not an option unless you were in a suite.

I personally think there is room for both schools of thoughts and the fact that people on here have reported that if they have to wait at all, the wait is minimal supports this.

  11. Call me crazy...I just don't get all the reservations for MTD. The whole point of MTD is the ability to show up at whatever time every day depending on what you are doing/want.

Why not just pick traditional dining if you are still going to commit to show up at the same time everyday?

We have done it on 3 or 4 cruises now and love it - just show up. I think the longest we have ever waited was 15 minutes on a formal night.

I most certainly have not booked the same time every night. Our reservation times range from 6:00 to 9:00. The reason why I wanted to make reservations is that during our only cruise experience where we did not have assigned seating, we had to stand in a line that went the full length of the deck to even get a pager. After the second night of this, we just did speciality dining. We could just stick with traditional dining, but early dining is too early for us and my husband does not eat late every day.

  12. I made my reservations earlier this week. You can select to display all days at once so you don't need to save/select each day. Then it took me to probably Day 6 of 12 before I noticed that after you select the names, there's a checkbox that appears underneath to select those people for all days. You still then had to select the time for each day--no option to just select the same time every day.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Thanks. I found this option and have now made my reservations.

  13. And subject to 'hard sell'!! 'Representatives' of Sabor, Chops & Giovanna's would often approach you in Vintages, Cafe Promenade and even the Windjammer (whilst eating ) to 'sell' some deal or other for their restaurants. Great if you were considering because I guess you may strike a deal, but annoying if of no interest.

yes, you can politely say quite quickly 'not interested' but they are almost as annoying as Chuggers in London. It feels quite a 'tacky' sales method really :(

That sounds really annoying. I hope that this experience is not replicated on our cruise.

We ate dinner there. IMHO, good but not great. If you're craving Mexican, go for it but keep expectations realistic.

I think my expectations are probably quite realistic. I live in the UK and authentic Mexican food is very hard to come by.
