  1. Hi,

We leave Saturday. At the last moment our eldest son was able to go due to a professor changing a final exam. So we added him last Sunday.

Question. We booked an excursion for Tortola and there is no availability for him. Online it says we have until tomorrow November 30 then online bookings etc. closes.

If we change to another excursion that is very similar it's $200 more. That's quite a bit for adding one person. I reached out to all the similar independent excursion operators but at this late date everyone is full.

So if we leave it as it is are we locked in to this excursion? Obviously we will check onboard to see if there is a rare opening. But if there isn't can we switch to another excursion?

Considering we are booked on a very popular one I'm sure they would easily replace our 3 spots.

    Any advice.

Also when they say November 30th. Do we have until tonight at midnight or tomorrow until 11:59 pm?

Thank you in advance for your advice and help.

  2. Free parking for accessible vehicles? My parents SUV uses a ramp for my mothers electric wheelchair. She had a catastrophic stroke 15 years ago and lost use of her hand, arm and leg. She can drag her leg for very very short distances. But she is amazing and worked so hard to come back to us. I am so proud of her.

Would you happen to know who we speak to about the free parking?

Last week I went ahead and booked the Radisson. At this late date everything was full and even though we won't be using the park and cruise its familiar.

Thank you for all of your responses!!!

  3. I have the answer. Cabin 6090 on the Fantasy in addition to the queen size bed has:

    a sofa bed

a drop down ceiling bed and a wall pull out bed

It technically can fit up to 5 people

Since there are only 3 of us in this cabin it works out great. Since it connects to my parents cabin which is a veranda disability cabin it was the veranda cabin we went with.

  4. I am sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but we have cabin 6092 on the Fantasy for a December cruise.

    Cabin 6092

    1. I haven't been able to find if the third bed is a sofa bed or a ceiling Pullman style bed.

    2. Or if it has a fourth bed meaning a sofa bed or Pullman ceiling bed???

I'm also curious about something I read that mentioned a queen bed but never mentioned the ability to make the queen into twin beds? ***SEE BELOW I FOUND THE ANSWER.

I am traveling with two of my sons. I also assume we have 2 bathrooms as the Magic and Wonder have? My parents are in the connecting handicap cabin 6090.

    CABIN 6090 (disabled cabin)

    1. Does this cabin have a sofa bed or a Pullman style bed or any other bed other than the main bed?

Sorry to ask so many questions, we have been away from DCL for a few years sailing others Cruiselines until my mothers health was stable enough to sail again. We wouldn't sail DCL without her. We couldn't she loves it too much. We are so thrilled to be back.

Thank you for your patience and time. Because I feel as if my cruise IQ is decreasing by the hour. I am embarrassed.

**UPDATE I FOUND A NEWS ARTICLE FROM 2011 AND ANSWERED MY OWN ? THAT NO THE QUEEN DOES NOT SEPERATE WHICH I FIND HARD TO BELIEVE.

  5. Thank you so very much.

May I bother you with another question?

As I said we haven't sailed out of Canavaral in awhile.

Well I checked and using retired military discounts I can get a good rate at the Radisson (which I didn't think I would ever stay at again) with the parking......would you go with the parking at the Radisson or Port?

  6. 9. How can I find out which dock we will be docking at in St. Thomas? With my mother being in a electric wheelchair it would really help to plan.

    10. 10. Wifi. PLEASE no hate. I was surprised that DCL hasn't updated their wifi packages like the other big Cruiselines have done. Again no hate. DCL is my favorite cruiseline in customer service, food, accommodations, private island etc. but again I was surprised. We did back to back cruises this summer on CCL and their social package for 14 days at sea really helps. Their social package is $5.00 a day and you have unlimited Facebook, Facebook messenger, Instagram, snapchat. There are 2 other packages where you can access internet and stream videos. Before the hate. I do understand the need to put down the devices and disconnect and then connect with the family. But if your entire family isn't sailing and you need to keep in touch $5.00 a day using Facebook messenger is a god send. So what are my options? I did read over it but reading over the number of gbs confuses me. I admit I just don't know how to judge it.

  7. Hi,

We are cruising on the December 3rd Fantasy.

    1. I haven't made hotel reservations because we didn't know if we would all be driving or flying until until this morning. Obviously many if not most hotels are full. We don't need hotel parking but any suggestions or areas around Port Canaveral? We will be driving down from the Carolinas.

    2. Port parking at Port Canaveral. My mother uses an electric wheel chair. Is there any risk of the parking lot filling up? Silly question maybe but we usually fly in and or sail out of FLL or MIA.

    3. Port arrival time especially parking at the port dealing with the extra time with my mothers wheelchair etc.

    4. Embarkation time? We are Siver Castaway Cay (almost gold ) members.

    5. Which night on my sailing will be Pirate night? (I bought our youngest a pirate costume).

    6. How many nights are formal nights now days on DCL and which nights are they on my sailing?

    7. Are the other nights still cruise casual?

    8. Our son turns 6 during the week of the cruise. Same routine of going to guest services and or the dining staff and requesting a cake and I assume paying for the cake?

I think that is it for now. Sorry to ask so many questions and at the last minute. We have taken a break from Disney. As you can see below we have been cruising but we had a late in life gift who is 5 so we starting Disney cruises again. Our older boys who our now 18 and 15 always loved DCL cruises loved their cruises so we are thrilled to be back and to experience the new ships.

Any other advice to how things may have changed. I feel we have cruising down pat but each cruiseline has traditions and we haven't sailed DCL in awhile.

    Thank you!

  8. I am cruising on the Disney Fantasy December 3rd with my parents and my youngest son (he's 5 and turns 6 during the week of the cruise) and my 15 year old son. Unfortunately my husband can't join us due to work and our eldest son due to his freshman year in college can't join us.

I have been to BVI but the boys haven't. We have decided to split up that day. My mother is disabled and must use a electric wheelchair.

I wanted to take the boys to Jost Van Dyke but the full day is sold out. But the

Jost Van Dyke Beach Transfer (TT14) Is available. It leaves at 7:30 am and is only 4 hours long. Considering 1.30 hours will be spent traveling there is it worth the time spent?

Are there private charters that I haven't found yet that would have better options?

Or should we just do to a beach day and if so which beach would you recommend for a 15 year old, almost 6 year old and myself. Snorkeling in this port isn't a must. But safety, restrooms, snacks or drinks are.

Desperate for any help. And yes I am kicking myself for waiting so long.

Thank you in advance for your help and advice because I really need it!

Ps: I posted on the Tortola website too.

  10. Blue Water,

Thank you for your reply and checking with your friend. I have read your comments for a few years now. You always give really great and honest advice.

I am cruising with my middle son (15) and our youngest son (5). Unfortunately our eldest son is a freshman in college and can't cruise with us but don't feel bad for him I took him on back to back cruises this summer for his graduation trip so he had a great time.

What can you suggest for my two sons and myself. We are beach people. I was considering Jost Van Dyke. Through the ship it's expensive but no worries. But do you recommend going or a private excursion company.

Or a beach we could grab a taxi too? I believe the last beach we went to in Tortola was near a distillery.

Anyway if you can let me know your thoughts.

And if you think of anything else for my mom please please let me know.

    Thank you!

  11. Hi,

We will be in Tortola on December 6th, 2016 on the Disney Fantasy. I am trying to find any excursion for my parents to do in Tortola. My mother uses a electric wheel. She suffered a stroke at a very young age and can't use one arm or hand and drags her leg.

Last time we were in Tortola my husband and I just jumped in with a group in a open air taxi for $20 apiece for a tour of the island. And it was awesome. Another time we took a taxi to a beach but I can't remember which one.

Does anyone have any suggestions for my mother? I am hoping we can borrow though I know it's not guaranteed a wheelchair to transport her from the ship to meet a van. I realize she wouldn't be able to take her electric wheelchair.

Maybe a private van to take her and my dad around the island for a bit just to see the beauty. She wouldn't even need to get out. She would be so happy just to see the scenery.

Disney offers one private car hire but it's $1200.00.

I realize the taxi drivers will want to fill up their taxis for such a tour.

    Any suggestions?

And I am having a hard time remembering the area around the dock. Worst case can she drive her electric wheelchair off and are there shops?

I am mainly concerned about seeing if I can find anything for my parents to do. Tortola is breath taking and I've enjoyed just the ride around. I think my mother would too.

    Thank you!

Any suggestions for private excursion companies or other excursions that would be a good fit. I'm not sure our 5 year would appreciate the Baths yet. This cruise only calls on St. Thomas and Castaway Cay and my boys love the beach. Maybe their is another beach excursion or option we can do other than Jost Van Dyke?

Ps: I have posted this on the disability forum too.

    And the DIS boards too.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. I hate the thought that she won't be able to see anything.

  13. Ok I finally was sent a copy of the policy.

It's through Trip Assure and is their Delux Plan. Plan number R774D

I've spent a lot of time on the mentioned sites and am waiting on the specifics of some of the policies to be emailed to me so I can compare them to the this insurance coverage.

Yikes, I'm not usually overwhelmed but it seems like with any insurance they throw so much at you that it's easy just to give in and pay the extra money. 😬

  14. I used several travel insurance comparison websites and found my parents could get insurance for around $350. DCL insurance is $422.

But I found I could really save some money. My insurance for myself and my 2 sons is $369.

It must be aged based since my cabin is more than my parents.

I have found several polices that allow me to cover the boys under my plan since they are only 15 and 5. If that is the case then I would save over $200.00. Is this correct?

I'm not sure how this works since we are almost exactly at 90 days from when we cruise since we just booked today.

But I asked my TA to remove my trip insurance. I will let my parents decide to go with DCL or purchase their own but for myself and the boys the savings are great. They cover pre existing conditions 60 days before.

But what if one of the boys develops strep throat of a horrible ear infection?

Or if I come down with a strep throat and can't travel. Have is it handled then.

I will call the companies tomorrow but to ease my mind tonight.

  15. We booked a cruise on the Disney Fantasy today. You would think after tons of cruise I wouldn't have to ask this but I do need advice.

My two sons sons and my parents are going on this cruise.

I was told DCL insurance is usually 8% of the cruise so roughly $800.

My parents are in their early 70's and have had severe health issues in the last few years though are feeling up to this cruise therefore we are going while they are able to go and enjoy it.

We believe trip insurance is needed but should we go through a private insurance carrier. The cost is a lot cheaper and they seem to cover many things and at least everything DCL does.

Any advice would be great! And quickly please. Thank you in advance for your help!!!

  17. I just wanted to say thank you. We were actually able to get the connecting cabin to my parents. I feel so much better now. With my parents health I will be right with them and can assist. Wow. Thank you so much for just calling and asking and explaining. It just shows experienced cruisers still need advice and help and we can all contribute and help each other. Thank you again!!!

  18. I've posted this question on the disabled forum already but since time is of the essence I'm posting it here too.

We are planning a cruise on the Disney Fantasy.

Cruising will be my parents, myself, my 15 son and my 5 year old son.

My mother is disabled and using an electric wheelchair.

The plan was for my parents and I to take my youngest son on this cruise as a surprise as he's turning 6 during the cruise.

Unfortunately, my eldest son just started college and can't go with us but I put in a request to my middle sons high school and they have agreed to allow him to go.

So here is the question. And I apologize in advance but we must decide today.

We are in disabled equipped deluxe balcony cabin. The cabin will sleep 5 but we are unsure if we should book another cabin for the boys and myself.

Having 5 people in a cabin may be too much. Especially since 4 of the 5 of us are adult size. In addition to having the electric wheelchair.

Could someone give me any feedback on this? I just don't know how large is truly large. Just because a cabin will sleep 5 I can only assume that many times this would be 2 parents with 3 children not 3 adults, a teen boy and a child. Plus my mothers electric wheelchair.

Saving money is always great but 7 nights of not sleeping well could be an issue. My mom doesn't sleep well anyway and is often in pain and I worry the boys and I could disturb her. She's a very light sleeper.

Of course my mother is saying it isn't a problem and she will be fine but that is her personality.

How large are these cabins and will 5 of us truly be comfortable? Or should I bite the bullet and book another cabin for the boys and myself?

We are on the clock if we are going to add another cabin and must so please answer if you can.

Thank you in advance for your help and advice!

    Regards,

    T

  20. Hi,

We are leaving today on back to backs and I wish I read my perks as a platinum member before we flew into Miami yesterday because I just read we get 3 bags of laundry per cruise for free which will help. I am cruising with our eldest son to celebrate his Highschool graduation and have time together before he leaves for college and we left the rest of the gang at home. I do a lot of laundry with three sons and a husband so if this service doesn't take too long I would like to use it. Can anyone share their experience?
