  1. If I understand your reductions in suite perks list items are:

    1. New service charge on drinks

    2. Change in Upsell process.

I agree the new beverage package service charge for suites is a perk reduction but often wondered how we got it in the first place.

As for the "new" bidding process on upsells, I tend to agree with you but it's still a little clouded and mist hidden for me.

It's my understanding that invites to bidding are within cabin class. Inside and Ocean view up to balcony, balcony would only go as high as mini-suites and Haven suites would only be offered to guests already in lower suites. If you have a better understanding, please correct me.

If my belief is correct, it may be a better system than before when Latitudes level or friends in high places played a part in the upsell fairy's selection who could move you from an inside cabin to the Haven.

If e mail to bid is sent to you can bid on haven from balcony

  2. Anyone know where or what ship Yannis Kazalis is now on? He was on the Norwegian Epic in Europe but now he's no longer there with no information as to where he went. They say he's no longer with the company. He was amazing!! We just booked a trip in Norwegian Star and we're hoping to connect with him!!

He is home on vacation. He has not been on Star for several years. Also Mustafa just recently left NCL and is now working on Holland America as hotel director

  4. I was on the Breakaway on June 11th - June 18th and the following Director/Management team was on board:

Mikhail Hilden- Captain (He announced that this was his last cruise with NCL :-( )

    Vuk Malobabic- Hotel Director

    Sayeed Razavi-Assistant Hotel Director

    Alvin Olivia-Cruise Director (See below)

Shailendra Sawant- Food & Beverage Director

    Olden Senior- Executive Housekeeper

    Dia Ambida-Vanosmael-Guest Service Manager

The general crew on the Norwegian Breakaway were very good and completely what we have come to expect from a NCL cruise. After sailing on the Norwegian Sun (August 2016) and the Norwegian Escape (March 2016) last year, which I had great experiences from, I would only say that this group of Directors and managers were average to non-existent from my previous experiences. I saw the Hotel Director and Assistant Hotel Director only a few times in passing. No treats at all were delivered to our cabin (I don't expect these but it is a nice touch and I have not had any cruise on which I received nothing). I saw the Cruise Director, Alvin, in person just a few times the entire cruise at the end of evening shows. As I traveled around the ship, my interaction or contact with any of the CD team was minimal. No one from the Cruise Director team were at the Pool during three days at sea organizing dancing, activities or silliness. The only exception was the few (not even the normal amount) canned games which were conducted by a CD assistant quickly and the assistant left after it was completed. I was disappointed because the pool is where a large majority of the people congregate on sea days in the tropics. Many lost opportunities to create good will and promote loyalty in my opinion and a stark contrast to my experiences last year.

For perspective, the Director/ management team (except for the Cruise Director) on the Norwegian Sun last year were all EXCELLENT and were always around, offering assistance and meeting and greeting guests!! Vesna Campos, the Food and Beverage Director at that time even made paper folding gifts for my children in the main dining room one night (which they still have). The Hotel Director (Rumi Khatao), Food and Beverage Director (Vesna Campos) and Concierge (Joaquin Dumipig) all sent nightly treats to our cabin. I even received a few calls to check on us and ensuring we were having a pleasant cruise. Wow!!

Equally excellent was the Director/management team on the Escape last year. The Cruise Director, Silas Cook and the Hotel Director, Sean Wurmhoeringer stood out. The Cruise Director and Hotel Director were everywhere and the Hotel Director also sent treats to our cabin. I saw Silas multiple times a day, every day, on the Escape cruise. He and they (his staff) were tireless. Silas and his team were everywhere and he was even on the gangway deck saying goodbye to departing passengers and even recognizing me personally. That being on the Norwegian Escape which is slightly larger ship than the Breakaway and out of Miami where the pool deck was more fully utilized.

In my opinion, NCL needs more CD like Silas and less CD like Alvin!

There were many, many good things about this cruise for us, and I am writing a more comprehensive review, but the Directors and management team on the Breakaway were a disappointing point for me on our cruise a few weeks ago.

Sean is in a class of his own. He's exceptional that's why he is on Joy now

  5. I can only go by my experience and the minimum to upgrade for us never changed. I don't know if the "upsell" department is as active as before so it would be a big gamble to wait and see if pricing went down. In order to bid you must have paid what you have booked and once that is done I don't think you have an option of changing your plan.

Mine never changed as well and bid was not accepted

  6. An end of an era today and whilst this thread is nice shows how out of date it can become without notice. I know a lot of people love it as do we but its time is probably up with all the changes now going on. I assure there are more surprises on the way!

One the most genuine nice and thoroughly brilliant HD left NCL today. Suzie you know the name but I am not going to publish it - I am sure it will be on soon somewhere.. 20 years of service is not easily replaceable id at all.

This was followed by the departure of the most lovable of Captains of 18 years experience - again we will miss him too.

May I say that I think the pressure of being a public company are now starting to impact on the ships. If one reads the accounts and I have they state that a risk is the inability to hire senior crew. This is now proving true. We passengers have to accept that we are nothing more than profit centers for the company and the crew tasked with delivery under extreme pressure. We need to deliver shareholder value.

We have to face facts NCL is changing and for us oldies the time of change is upon us.

They have now lost two of brightest finest and best HD in the industry with Prem leaving last year.

Lets conclude by wishing both these gentlemen all the luck in the world and hope our paths cross again as they have enriched our family lives. Lets thank them for the years of service they gave us all.

NCL have some big holes to fill and whilst newbies will know no different it will not be the same

    They both will be missed

  7. Not only is way too early but crew moves are now becoming standard and last minute changes quite common. As I have said before on this board other than certain people never try and rely on staffing. For instance the opening team on the Joy are supposed to be back on the Escape - but I understand this is delayed.

Do not misunderstand me - I too like to know who is where but sadly it is getting more and more difficult with the number of ships, staff shortages etc. We were recently on two ships and all the crew we spoke were telling us that it is becoming very common for ship changes mid contract.

The Joy hasn't had any passenger trips yet. Inaugural is June 26 and having special sailings and showings for travel agents and inaugural cruise is June 28. Hotel Director Sean goes on vacation August 14 and doesn't have next assignment yet
