Thanks for the information!  And darn!  I think I'm going to be a bit overdressed...

I doubt it - the 'dress-downers' stuck out more than the 'dress-uppers', not that I took much notice really. I was too busy getting value from my drinks package!😁

And approximately how many smart days per week, as opposed to casual days?

I like to plan things out to reduce over- or under-packing.  Thanks!

One or two smart days per week, however compliance with the 'smart' dress code seemed to be a lot less. I only wore a jacket once to a smart night and had no issues.

I’ll bear them in mind. We usually cruise celebrity but not a fan of IV & suites are getting too expensive! But we like not having to dress up in black tie…

Ambassador do have formal nights and nearly everyone seems to comply with the dress code more or less (quite similar to P&O). The average age on Ambassador is ancient BTW.

Friends have just been on Ambassador her first cruise so nothing to compare to but loved it.

We did 24 days on P&O Aurora last September and 22 days B2B on Ambassador at Easter. TBH, Ambassador is beating P&O hands down at the moment. Value for money, Ambassador is way better, food is better, entertainment is better, staff are generally better. They do still have a few maintenance issues with Ambience (particularly lifts and some air-con).

The mystery to me is why the US beaches and cemetery excursion also stops for a short time at the Commonwealth beaches and cemetery, but the Commonwealth beaches and cemetery excursion wastes time on an embroidery rather than a corresponding visit to the US beaches and cemetery.

Although my primary interest is Juno beach where my grandfather went ashore, I would also like to pay my respects at the US cemetary/memorial

I would think it is a function of geography and travel time (from Le Havre). To get to Omaha beach and the associated cemetery would probably be an extra hour's drive each way. It is not really feasible to do all of the Normandy beaches in one day.

I did a battlefield tour of the Normandy campaign which easily filled 3 days. The American beaches, St Mere Eglise and other sites are at least a day's tour in themselves.

What poster does this remind you of?

    trip -ccx.jpeg

This reminds of the time we took the sleeper train from Paris to Venice. As we boarded, there was a family who had put all of their cases into their room and were now scratching their heads as to how they were to get into their room. We giggled to ourselves and walked onwards.

Brilliant advice Steve!  One slight issue for me.....if I drank the wine first my bendy bits would decide to do their own thing.   Any resemblance to actual yoga poses would be accidental! 😅

This is how yoga gurus (or many other gurus) come about. Do or say stuff convincingly whilst 'under the influence', it is amazing how many people will just lap it up.

BTW - I am currently under the influence...😉

The tour does include a pint of the good stuff. But it's another €6 per pint after that. That's the credit card maxxed out, then.

It will probably be the best pint of Guinness you will ever taste. I have been on a tasting mission since then and have not found one as good (yet). I shall be continuing my quest...

A translation for our American friends.

That word doesn't mean the same in the UK as it does in the US.

In the UK altho it's an old-fashioned word for what you think it means, for the last 100 years or more it's slang for "cigarette" 😏

Spoilsport! I had the popcorn ready for the ensuing confused meltdown (maybe this whole woke thing has put comments about that off limits?)

My OH was a catering officer in the RAF and therefore only too familiar with Compo rat packs, especially when supporting the RAF Regt on exercise/operations.

A good chef can do wonders with Compo - mainly by throwing it in the bin and frying up some bacon!

Bacon grill was OK - I used to make a decent spag bol or shepherds pie with the corned beef. The Cheese processed went into/onto the instant mash on the shepherds pie. You did need some extras (onions mainly) to jazz it up a bit.

Obviously not. I Have heard legends from old sailors that in far off lands you may encounter cheese in a tin but I suppose I’d filed it alongside “here be dragons” and never expected to be confronted with the true horror of such atrocities.

Anyone of a certain age who served in the British Army will remember this stuff.
