Just to put it plainly, Thierry didn’t “leave”. It wasn’t his decision.

Question about the showers in the new solo cabins. Are they the same tiny size as those in concierge and lower cabins. In the one diagram it looks like they might be bigger.
Certainly not bigger.

We have a friend who is 6'7"..what is the length of the bed? Do beds even come that length. Never considered it for ourselves. We are 5'7 and 5'1".But he is very concerned, rightly so.
He could possibly sleep diagonally across the bed but apart from that he is in trouble.

We were the last couple to (officially) occupy 6030 on Regatta and the beds are the same as before. I measured out of curiosity but can't find my notes (how useful...sarcasm font); I seem to remember the bed was shorter and slightly wider than standard full size...definitely bigger than a twin though...comfortable for two people as long as the pets aren't also traveling.
I concur. Certainly a little shorter but seems same width as previous Oceania beds.

Hi there @DeanoNorthPerth. Hope you are enjoying the first days of your cruise. Any thoughts on the solo cabin? Thank you!
Boarded Regatta yesterday. First impressions of the cabin is it is indeed small but the window is large so I don’t feel claustrophobic. I think I’ll be happy here. As requested, I took a photo of the bed. My computer skills are poor at best but I’ll try to post it.

I’m in one of those cabins on Regatta from 21 October. I’ll try to remember to post my thoughts soon after.

The shore excursion from Mombasa to Tsavo East is waitlisted. Is there any interest in arranging a private group to Tsavo?
You should put this in the relevant Roll Call, not here.

Simple. It's because people find it easier to post a question rather than use the Search function. It's the same for the vast majority of posts on these Boards.

Is xmas day menu similar to thanksgiving day? Or is speciality restaurant a better option?
I was on an O cruise on Xmas day a few years ago and there was a magnificent buffet in the GDR with numerous serving stations that started about 11am and went on most of the day. Truly wonderful. They really went all out with decorations and carols etc as well.

What A Market😎
My husband and I are on this cruise with you. Love seeing your beautiful family aboard. We are taking our daughter/son in law on this itinerary can’t wait for our 50th anniversary. They are such foodies they will have a ball.
I agree with you it’s been a fun, relaxing cruise with such a wonderful crew.
Bonnie
Hi Bonnie and What A Market. I board Regatta on 21 October so was wondering f you could list a few of the crew. I’m particularly interested in the GM, the CD and perhaps the Club Ambassador.
TIA,
Dean

Should I ask a world renowned pharmacist to weigh in on this thread?
I don't think there's one available so I'll have a go instead. The stats in Australia indicate that 30% of admissions to hospital Intensive Care Units for Covid are the unvaccinated. The unvaccinated are 1% of our population, which in my simple mind indicates if you are unvaccinated and get Covid you are much more likely to get very very ill and possibly die. So, like you FF, I have trouble working out why people take the risk.
However, those stats also indicate very clearly that the vaccine works to minimize the disease, not prevent it. So you are able to be infected by a vaccinated person or an unvaccinated person. The best measures to protect yourself are hand hygiene and masks. While I would love to punish those taking the very selfish path of refusing to be vaccinated, I think the fact is Covid will be with us for probably 10 years (with various mutations) so we have to be as cautious as we can but get on with our lives. In summary, while personally I don't like the idea, I understand cruise lines beginning to allow the unvaccinated to sail.
Bear in mind, these are the ramblings of a very unrenowned pharmacist. 😁

Do all of the covid fearful O regulars really think there are scores of unvaccinated cruisers just waiting for this change so as to jump on an Oceania cruise? I would bet you $100 that this will make no difference in O pax. As most are old fogeys, including me, they are all varied and bosted. Stop worrying, you'll be fine.
Well they certainly are varied.

If it's the Grand Dining Room you are referring to, no reservations required, or indeed taken. Just turn up. If there is a table to suit, you are seated immediately. Otherwise have a drink at the bar until a table is available.

On 1 of O cruises, for lunch in MDR, we overheard the maitre d ask the next table (husband and wife looked to be in their 80's -- a very refined couple), if it was OK to seat 2 more pax (to the 4 top). The wife said "only if a couple, no singles". Could not figure out her reasoning, but she must have had her reasons from years of sharing experience.
Husband’s a playboy? 😁

LHR is notorious for late flights
then sitting waiting for a gate or bused from the tarmac
I try to avoid connections there 😉
It's a shocker of an airport. I had a connection there last month and it was a shambles.

IMHO that is not a bad thing. Compared to some (including Dottie Kulasa) who make the cruise too much about her/him...drone on and on during announcements, major applause expected every time they are introduced during evening show...talk too much during trivia. A cruise director who manages the team well, is courteous to passengers but does not talk too much or appear too often can also do their job very well.
Interesting point of view. So which of the Oceania CDs do you prefer?

Oceania Cruises just announced last week that they're allocating 14 Category D cabins on each of their 4 smaller ships (R-class) to become solo cabins. Anyone interested should look at sailings on Insignia, Sirena, Regatta and Nautica. Oceania will announce solo pricing for these cabins on April 11.
Has the pricing announcement happened? I haven't seen it.

Was their big announcement about solo pricing or solo cabins? Just because they now have special cabins for solo travelers doesn’t seem to mean the pricing will be much better.
Their letter to me was about both.

Would you rather pay the 401 more? Looks like you were ok booking at that price.
Of course I was ok with paying for 2 originally but when O come out and make a big deal of new solo pricing and then offer a 4% discount, you can’t help but feel a little let down. It seems a bit puny. And the promotion of new solo cabins is disingenuous.

It’s true. Just received advice from O that because I am travelling solo in a Cat. E cabin for my Regatta Tokyo to Hong Kong in October, my fare will be reclassified as they are reclassifying all E cabins to solo cabins and pricing accordingly. Woo hoo!!! Not sure of $s saved but all will be revealed.
Just received advice from O that my fare has been reduced by $401AUD as a result of the reclassification to solo fares. $401!!!! What a joke! They should be ashamed of themselves. So instead of paying for 2 full price fares as a solo traveller I now pay $401 less with the new single traveller fare. What an absolute rip-off.

When we returned from our excursion today our butler had graciously made us a reservation at Pollo Grill. I’m fairly certain I have read here that others haven’t enjoyed this restaurant as much as some of the others, but we thought it was great. I particularly enjoyed the dessert sampler while we watched an incredibly beautiful sunset. Truly indescribable.I'm with you. I love Polo Grill. But we are probably in the minority on this Board.
