We did have a very different experience a year ago when we sailed on the Hurtigruten's 100 pax Lofoten. We struck up a chat with the kitchen officer (what's that title, drawing a blank) and he offered us a private tour (shh, don't tell anyone.) But we didn't infringe on their breakfast time when they were in the dining room. (He's the one on the far right.)

For what it’s worth, my mom and I are going Mar. 4 unless they offer full refunds.  My husband sent me an interesting article from a guy who survived sars, Mers, etc, and he said he wore gloves to remind himself not to touch his face. So if you see two ladies wearing white gloves, that’s us. I’m also stocking up on antiviral herbs and some Chinese herbs for immunity plus bringing electrolytes for dehydration , wipes, etc. but honestly, I always travel like that anyway. Our last cruise (Silver Seas), we both caught a cold and I got a mild gastrointestinal illness plus sea sickness and we missed one port. We ate at the lunch buffet a lot so I think that’s probably a mistake without washing your hands aftercyou get your food...This will probably be my last cruise because the lack of control is vexing. (Forgot, we are booked on National Geographic’s Iceland to Greenland in the fall)..   Lastly, this is my first cruise with Oceania and I’m a bit surprised people are so nasty to each other knowing full well that you are talking to potential future/past travel companions. Life is too short to be so disrespectful. Be safe cruisers.

Chinese herbs didn't seem to work for the Chinese.

I was on the Sirena for 17 days, Jan. 25 - Feb. 11, and had a very enjoyable time.  This was my 12th Oceania cruise. Except for meals in the specialty restaurants, I ate the rest of my dinners in the Terrace Cafe because of the sushi and sashimi as well as the selections from the grill and the ability to move the meal along at the pace I prefer.  I ate a number of lunches in the main dining room because I enjoy the "flavors of the world" selections and it's much less crowded than the Terrace at lunch.

The crew was friendly and provided service that was very good.  A minor bump in the road (wave in the sea?) was that Guinness stout was not on the bar menu, but somehow I was able to survive.  On the last day of the cruise we missed our stop at the private island because the sea conditions were not good for tender service, but safety always comes first.  Although it appeared that there seemed to be concern about noro on some days as we had paper menus and there was an attendant manning the coffee machine in Horizons, we always had salt and pepper on table and no steps were taken to disinfect tables in the Terrace between users.

As others have mentioned, the dinner menu in the main dining room has changed over the past few years, but I never felt in danger of going hungry.  If you have reasonable expectations, you won't be disappointed cruising on the Sirena.  Cheers!

“But I never felt in danger of going hungry”

Great quote. Thank you. Made my day.

  4. My guess is Oceania are working frantically to change the affected itinieraries. There is zero chance those itineraries will remain the same. When it is all worked out they will announce it. The only announcement that could be made now is "We're Working On It" which is kinda superfluous.

Be patient folks. The only thing spreading faster than Novel Coronavirus is fear and misinformation about Novel Coronavirus. When it's all sorted we will all be informed.

  5. Sorry to change the thread (and probably earn myself the ire of many), but why would someone spell the word nites instead of the correct spelling nights? It’s only one extra letter so not a time-saving issue or anything. I really don’t get it.

    Clo;

Last February I gave the food on my Marina cruise an excellent review. They had indeed done an excellent job on that cruise.

However, your personal attack on people that have far more cruises and thus experiences with Oceania only demonstrates your narrow mindedness. That’s your problem and time for Your own reality check!

If Oceania maintained the constant high quality of food and preparation across its multiple ships, as we have both experienced in Marina, most of these negative posts wouldn’t appear. Sadly, once you have more experience, across multiple Oceania ships, you’ll find that isn’t the case.

So please save your snarky ill informed comments until such time you’re even minutely qualified to make such observations.

Are you responding to post #256 (the one just before yours)? If so, you should have directed your comments to Hawaiidan, not clo.

Well said. Oceania allows dress jeans and that should be all one needs to know.

I do not  (or, at the very least, try not to) impose my values, beliefs or codes (behavior, dress, etc.) on others. If I am not negatively impacted by the behavior of others, I attempt to let it go (sometimes I fail). Yes, I often find others' choice in attire unattractive - for example, I find it especially unattractive to see obese people crammed into clothing that is far too tight (very commonly seen) or unkempt attire worn in nice venues. However, these are my personal observations and I do not inflict them on others. I am not a member of the clothes police force and have no intention of joining. It is the responsibility of the venue to enforce its codes - not mine. jmho

Does that mean you’re comfortable with men wearing baseball caps in restaurants?

  8. 1. There is no official limit but you are expected to be “reasonable”.

1a. From memory yes, but if I’m wrong you would only need to ask your steward/stewardess.

    2. Yes

    3. Oceania treats you like a responsible adult by allowing you to bring alcohol onboard. To abuse that privilege would be what my good friend Flatbush Flyer would call “low-rent”. Wine brought onboard is for consumption (not just pouring) in your room.

As many of you know the new interactive tv system is in place. Better than the old system. I think the carpets are new and different in staterooms.

I've lost track of the Next upgrade schedule. Has Riviera had hers?
