  1. "Cancel for Any Reason" insurance is somewhat misleading as most policy plans exclude losses caused directly or indirectly by an Epidemic, which Coronavirus currently is categorized as.  I would definitely contact your travel agent or read your travel plan policy very carefully.

There is public bus service from the cruise port area to the top of Old Town. From the cruise port walk ,in the direction of Fat Margaret, to the Linnahall transit stop (trams/buses). Board bus 21, 41 or 73 to the  3rd stop at Vabaduse Valjak (close to St John's church & Freedom Square). From there it is a short walk to the Cathedral.

You can use a contactless credit card to pay for bus tickets by swiping it against the validation pole.

    Thank you so much!

One thing that needs to be remembered is that “a full day in port from 8 to 5” really means from 8.30 (if you are lucky) to about 4.00, as all cruise ships require you to get back to the boat well in advance of sail away.

it is so easy to attempt too much in a day, even more so on a port intensive cruise like the Baltic day after day. Not sure of your precise itinerary but Tallinn often comes immediately before or after a day or more in St.Petersburg, which is likely to be tiring.

We are doing exactly that (albeit three days in St.P) so for Tallinn, we have kept things simple and comparatively relaxing with a bus trip to the top of the Old Town and a four hour stroll downwards back to the ship with a bit of light lunch somewhere (suggestions  welcome). Pretty much the same plan for Riga the next day.

i do like the idea of a foodie experience in Tallinn itself. That sounds a much better idea than more extensive travel on the day.

    enjoy your cruise

@BelfastTaxman could you please tell me more about the bus trip to the top of Old Town?  Thanks so much!

OP, here are a couple of ideas for using the OBC left after you deduct for gratuities and beverage, etc. purchases: specialty restaurant(s), Ultimate Bakcony Dinner, Chef's Table, Ultimate Ship Tour, Sanctuary. I'm sure others can come up with more, you shouldn't have any trouble spending it!

Thank you!  I hadn't thought about using it for Sanctuary which is exactly what we want to do.  Thanks to everyone for the suggestions/advice!

  6. We have about $900 onboard credit for our upcoming cruise in March.  I have already bought coffee cards and water packages using my credit card.  Should I have waited to buy them onboard using our onboard credit?  Not sure if I have made a mistake.  Thanks for any advise you can offer!

Thanks so much for following along! I'll be back soon with some final thoughts and a few comparisons to the cruises we took last year on Norwegian.

Nooooo....I don't want your review to end!!  Thanks so much for taking the time to do this trip report!  It was awesome!

Definitely! If she’s from South Africa & her husband works in Sabintini’s,

she’s the best. Unfortunately I can’t remember her name. The Regal is my favorite ship. Next up is the Sky.

Was it ZaZa?  If so, she was great in Sanctuary back in November.  We also loved Maiti!

We'll be cruising on the Regal in March; my wife and I are both sun worshipers. We plan on The Sanctuary for our cruise.  For fellow cruisers who have stayed in The Sanctuary, will they allow you to move the lounges; when I say "move", I just mean turn it around.

If they do, will the staff do it?  Thanks, appreciate your input, happy cruisin'.

Yes, they will turn the loungers around in Sanctuary for you to get the best sun.  We did a full week in Sanctuary on the Regal in November and it, and the staff, was wonderful!!

  10. We were in Sanctuary on the Regal last month and booked one of the covered areas with the couches and TV (did this mainly because both my husband and I are very fair and need shade).  We tipped those who went above and beyond an extra $25-$30 at the end of the cruise.  They were a wonderful crew on the Regal especially Maiti and Diana.

Can't comment on MDR as we don't go there.

From 11/1/18 we spent 17 days in the Sanctuary on the Regal and the service could not have been better. Zaza from Macedonia got our loungers arranged as needed and the staff was attentive at all times. Whether it was a drink from the bar, a lunch or ice water or iced towels they were always available and pleasant. In fact Diana one of the crew had the best smile on the ship.

Klenklen....we were on the Regal during the same time as you and spent the our week in Sanctuary and couldn't agree with you more!  Zaza was wonderful as was Diana!  Our favorite crew member in Sanctuary by far is Maiti.  He, like Diana, has a great smile and could not have been more attentive to us.  I have been having knee problems and the Sanctuary staff had ice waiting for me in plastic bags to apply to them every day!  They are a great crew up there!

We were on the Regal in November and found the best bar/lounge for bartenders and service was the Wheelhouse. Bartenders Rolly and Fabian were excellent (however I think Fabian disembarked the day we did). As stated earlier by another poster, we found the staff at Bellini's slow and not into their job.

We were also on Regal in November and completely agree with you about the bartenders in the Wheelhouse Bar.  They were great!
