Well a step backwards Personal Info does not show DW again. Hope this is just weekend  maintenance. There were other problems on PCL site.

Yeah, looks like they just broke something pretty critical. Mine is the exact opposite - when I login with my eMail, it doesn't show my info at all, just DW's.

Can it really be that hard? Airlines do this all the time though it is not quite that simple, still it is not rocket science.

Not just airlines, pretty much every company that has both a website and a smartphone app (i.e. pretty much every company in the world that does any eCommerce business). That would have been the smart thing to do, but it would have cost a few more $, so the beancounters would have fought it. As I've said, explaining the need for a backup strategy (and the danger of forcing a largely non-tech-savvy customer base out of their comfort zone) to top management would have been the job of the CTO - apparently whoever held that role for Princess (might have been a Carnival corporate position) failed at that job.

I wonder if any of the employees tested the app at their homes via remote working.  If they did; they may have seen it wasn't working properly.

That wouldn't have helped, unless they had created several test cruises and let hundreds of employees try and signup for them. Probably would have actually been easier to just upgrade the website to handle the new database schema needed for Medallion Class. Of course, that still would have cost some development $, and the beancounters would have fought against it. It appears they were successful - either that, or top management were sold a bill of goods by the (likely low bidder) company contracted to develop the app.

They could use a good project manager as well. 🙂

And a good test group to ensure that they don't release as horribly buggy a product as this.

And most importantly, a good Chief Technical Officer who understands that you don't abandon a sizeable portion of your user base and leave your company without a working backup to a new product that may or may not meet the actual business needs; and has the courage to insist on doing things right despite the beancounters' desire to save money.

Yes, we are green lane on or March 2022 and November 2023 already

Yep, I just set it up on DW's phone, and she shows Green Lane. I'm still waiting to get my passport back from the State Dept - I requested expedited and we're not sailing 'til 12/11 (Majestic to Mexico), so I should be OK - but it looks like that's the only thing keeping me in Blue Lane. Fingers crossed.

Taken from my aft balcony in Ketchikan to show where we are docked.

Would be nice if they fixed the bridgecam to update every 5 minutes as it should (it's now showing a Glacier Bay image from midday yesterday - better than the image of the Magnolia Bridge in Seattle that had been showing since 7/22, but still not right).

The Bridge Cam is now working and thank you all for these postings and informative thread as we travel along with you.

Well, sort of. It's still showing a Glacier Bay still from just over 3 hours ago; which, of course is a vast improvement over the 7/22 photo of the Magnolia Bridge in Seattle that we've been looking at for the last 5 days, but still not updating every 5 minutes as advertised. Looks like, out of the 14 cams on the page, only 6 are fully operational and up-to-date: Sky, Ruby, Royal, Regal, Grand, and Emerald.

Were you able to enter your embark/disembark groups? It says I can't do that until closer to my departure date (12/11 on the Majestic). Or did it let you into the green lane without the groups?

Green Lane, just waiting for boarding groups.

Can you get into the Green Lane more than 24 hours before embarkation? The checklist says you have to complete the health questionnaire and vaccination status within 24 hours of embarkation. Does that mean you have to do it less than 24 hours in advance, or am I interpreting it wrong?

Literally the entire patter is there.

Does it include any mention of karaoke? We're almost definitely going to be reserving a cabin on the 12/11 Mexico itinerary, probably in a few days, and I'm a huge karaoke addict. Guess I'll have to wait for the actual Patters to get posted if it doesn't show up in the app.

  11. Hi folks,

We just booked this itinerary; the canal has definitely been on our bucket list for a while now.

It's probably real early, but if anyone else is planning to be aboard we'd love to hear from you. We'd also appreciate it if anyone had any recommendations for activities before or after the cruise (thinking of spending a couple of days in Panama and maybe a day on Grand Cayman).

    Thanx,

    Barry & Rita

  12. Been enjoying myself the past couple hours & catching up now.so this may been answered. Captain said picking up pilot at Ambrose/Sandy Hook which may mean more to others than me.

The Ambrose channel is the main entrance to New York Harbor, just east of Sandy Hook, which is a narrow peninsula extending north from the New Jersey mainland into the harbor.

  13. Just noticed that the islands on this itinerary feature 3 different currencies - Barbados Dollar, EC Dollar, and Euros!!!

Has anyone got any suggestions on dealing with this? The pursar's office will change money onboard, right? Is it easy to get a better rate onshore?

    See you onboard,

    Barry

  14. Hi folks!

This will be our first cruise on Star Clippers; as you can see from my sig, I was very much a Windjammer fan back in the day, but since they went under it's been strictly 'foo-foo' cruises (as the Windjammer purists would say). Been meaning to try Star Clippers, but haven't gotten around to it until now.

I couldn't find another thread about this sailing; if I missed it, pls point it out to me and I'll start posting there.

Looking forward to hearing from other folks, either on this sailing or just for general advice about Star Clippers or comparisons to Windjammer.

    Regards,

    Barry
