We are US citizens and wondering if we need a visa when we stop at Kuşadası and visit Ephesus on a private tour. On the US state department site it says
"U.S. citizens traveling on cruise ships can enter visa-free for a maximum of 72 hours with permission from authorities at the port of entry." but on e-visa site is says "Tourists who arrive in Turkey on a cruise ship do not need a visa if they are only planning to visit the city that their ship docks at." Since Ephesus is only 6 miles from the port, do we need a visa? Has anyone been there lately and has taken a private tour and needed a visa?
We have done this numerous times. No need for visa

For me, I always arrive the day before the cruise on an overnight flight from Atlanta. I cannot sleep on a plane so I arrive tired and wrinkled. I have done the shared shuttle to Civi, which was not bad, but I usually do the private transfer to Civi. I just want to go to my hotel, take a 2 hour nap, then walk around awhile then have a nice dinner. I will take an Ambien before I go to bed and try to help my body get use to the time change. Yes, there is nothing special in Civi, but there are a several nice restaurants and I feel safe walk walking around alone.(I tend to travel solo). I do love Rome, but why stay at the airport hotel? The cost for a taxi into Rome and back is fairly expensive. I would stay in Rome and put they money towards a shared van to Civi on cruise day. You can often find others on your roll call to share a hotel pickup transfer. (I think I saw you on a roll call this morning) I will be on that TA,too.
Agree!

We want to do it after seeing cruise programmes on tv where local inhabitants welcomed visitors to the township, giving them some idea what life was like under the apartheid system and what it's like now.
It’s a hell of a lot worse now .Believe me .This is Gov propaganda

We are looking for recommendations for full day tours in Capetown. We want one that goes, at a minimum to Table Mountain, Robben Island as well doing a City tour. Any suggesstions are welcome as well as contact information. Thank you.
As an ex South African .Going up Table Mountain is dicey.aIf weather is not too windy or too cloudy the Cable Cars will work.Same with Robbin island although there are far better places to see than that the island .

Hi loerie, yes I've read that it's inadvisable to visit a township alone although I was under the impression that there were tour companies in SA now who provided township tours via local guides who live in the area.
Thanks for your advice.
Thst is so but there is a lot of car jacking etc.Electricity is in shorty supply so driving is hell as no traffic lights work.Sadly
-
Not safe in Port Elizabeth or Durban to do township tours I am an ex South African and lived in both Cities,Eould advise against it
-
Iam x South African living in the USA.You can buy electric kettles here.I have 3 in reserve! And educated all my married kids and grandkids to this “hi tech” gadget.
