  1. Davey - I am partial to the 2009 version of Land of Hope and Glory and actually listen to it quite frequently.

We were in Honfleur today and the weather was perfect.  The crowds were not too bad even though it was a market day.  We gorged on pastries and had a Croque Monsieur for lunch.  Then we bought pain au chocolat et aux amandes for tomorrow’s breakfast although I know they won’t be as good after a day, but they will far exceed those that Silversea provides.

On to Mont-St.-Michel tomorrow and hoping the weather continues to be good.

  2. Silkismom - I am so sorry to hear about your loss.  Our Jade is 16 years old and beginning to show signs of kidney disease.  So far, no medication is needed, but should that time come we will happily give it to her.

We are off on a 46 day trip on the Spirit this week, and my fingers are crossed that she will be all right at the B & B (camp) where she spends time.

  3. JP - I’ve had that same dream many times.  One morning, I woke up convinced that I never got my MBA.  It took a while to settle down after that.

These days, my dream is more travel related - the plane leaves at 8 pm, it is 4 pm, I haven’t started packing yet and it is a three hour drive to the airport.

Fortunately, I am just about all packed for next week’s adventure on the Spirit.

Terry, Mr Henry is a Borador …his Mum being a border collie, Dad a pedigree black Labrador….he’s an absolute darling 😊

Dali was a Dalvador (Dalmation Labrador) hence the name Dalvador Dali.  She lived to the ripe old age of 17!

  5. My late husband was a mechanical engineer.  I have an enormous collection of screws, bolts, enormous wrenches, pieces of plumbing, copper wire - you get the picture.  I hesitate throwing anything out since I know I will need it one day.  The sad thing is that I will probably forget that I have it and go out and buy a new one.

  7. 1956 chocolate ice cream at the Park Lane Hotel.  1958 picking up our new Mark VIII with steering wheel on the left side and driving through England and even into London.  More chocolate ice cream.  Riding in our cousin’s 1929 Bentley with the sunroof leaking.  My father kept a daily diary of all our trips.  I will have to read it to dig up more memories.  The English reporting of the 1972 Olympics while I was alone in the Bonnington Hotel.  This was before the days of sensationalism in the news media.

  8. Last year, I decided to embark on a bit of a fitness routine to see if I could feel less flabby and generally stronger.  My routine only lasts about 15 minutes, and I have seen some positive results especially in the way my clothes fit.  I decided to do my age in sit ups, so this year I have been doing 77 sit ups daily.  Now as I approach my birthday, I realize that instead of slacking off, I will have to do 78!  Then, if I am lucky, 79, 80, etc.  I have to admit, it is a bit of an ego trip, but it keeps me going.

  9. I am pleased to report that Hurricane Debby turned a bit to the east, and we were spared.  We still have high winds, but we only lost power briefly, the water stayed on, and the road didn’t wash away.

Lois, we are due west of you, just south of Tallahassee.  It is also called Lighthouse Point.

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement

  10. I decided not to evacuate in anticipation of the hurricane, but I have been bagging ice, the bath tub is full, and I have cooked everything in the refrigerator.  I even made coffee figuring that cold coffee is better than no coffee.  It looks like we will get a direct hit from a Category 1 hurricane.   My fingers are crossed that it will not be a Cat 2.  The house has been through much worse, but without me in residence.  My biggest concern will be if we lose power and the temperature soars.  Ah, the joys of a beach house on the Gulf of Mexico.

  11. I am in my “happy place” for a few days.  I flew down yesterday and despite very bad weather was able to land only an hour late.  By the time I got to the house, the sun was already beginning to set.  It was the most magnificent sunset I have ever seen.  Alligator Point, Florida

Could someone please tell me how to turn the photo right side up.

I consider it a serious issue.

I think the “cardinal” rule for this - no pun intended - is that if you decide to pick on one particular religion for quite an unacceptably level of extremely poor taste and derision that you could reasonably predict will certainly cause deep offence, AND - to  make it worst - that you would never dream of doing exactly the same to another religion simply because of the fear of potential violent consequences on your streets then, perhaps you should instead take the prudent decision to think again before doing  so and always avoid all religious derision and offensiveness.

This is not a free speech issue but instead whether politicians should use public money to insult a fairly sacred icon of any religion for the misplaced entertainment value they think if offers.

And The Olympic opening ceremony of all events?  The most important worldwide event that is intended for nations to showcase their national identity, tolerance and culture

    Jeff

I was very glad to find out that it was in no way a depiction of The Last Supper but rather an allusion to a Greek feast.

It is sad that we have become so quick to be offended these days.  I long for the days when we could just exhale, chill and think!

  14. We loved our visit to Borobudur in 2018 and had perfect weather for the climb to the top.   We had a hair raising ride back to the ship escorted by the "tourist police" who led us for the several hour race on both sides of the road through all the traffic.
