Good point Phil, talking to Dario he said that “driving” the R ships was much more challenging but more enjoyable than the big ships. Also not all Captains enjoy the social aspect of Azamara preferring the anonymity of larger ships.

It's the lack of Azipods that makes the difference.
Although they have caused lots of mechanical problems on the Celebrity Millennium class ships over the years.
In some ways Azamara are better off without them.

One thing I believe that will help the shower is installing split swinging glass doors instead of clinging shower curtains. It will not only make the shower seem bigger by being able to see out but if you bump into it, it doesn't cling to you. The clinging is the worst part for me.
I believe the Aqua Class cabins on Celebrity's M class have those glass doors if I'm not mistaken.
I was told by a Engineer that had been considered but discarded has not practicable.

I am sure Azamara will transform this ship into a work of art...but not so sure about the tiny showers!
That's just a very small problem to worry about.

Well I’ll start by saying who I’d like promoted rather than the dream team. Dario as Captain gets my vote. I will leave it at that!
Phil
I agree totally.

My husband used to work in whisky warehouses in Glasgow, including Cutty Sark. He remembers that the difference was that Cutty Sark had less added caramel than other blended scotch whiskies because it was the way Americans
preferred whisky. The blend itself was no different from other brands. There was a saying that people drink with their eyes.

Very interesting but judging by the comments on this thread many Americans do not like it eIther

Can you explain gratuity? The web site says it is included and I just booked thinking they are included.
They are included in the cruise price.
You can give extra should you wish but it is not expected.
-
Are there any single malt scotches onboard? We generally don't drink anything but wine, but DH likes a scotch every once in awhile.
Yes quite a few, not sure of prices but all are chargeable.

Captain Jose?
Not sure if staff captain Dario is still with Azamara but he would be a great Captain

Great News, actually we have today just booked a cruise on Quest for April 2018.
It will be our 13th with Azamara, hope that is not a bad omen.
We will have to make it 14 in the future on Pursuit
I should also have said that very much depends on future prices and itineraries.
At the moment I do not like 2019 prices or itineraries for Journey and Quest

You rarely see Cutty Sark on sale in the UK.
Probably because no discerning Scotch drinker would buy it.

Has I said it was 2008
The Hull was repainted in 2012

To be fair Azamara have docked near Tower Bridge before a few years ago. The way it was explained to me was that subsequently some mooring points were taken out and they would need to have been put back to enable an Azamara ship to dock there again. Below is a picture of Journey moored just down from the bridge.

I also have a copy of this photo. According to my records it was taken has long ago has June 2008.
Not sure if that was the only time Journey moored near Tower Bridge.
Has I said in my earlier post we moored at Greenwich in June 2009.

Like you I was on the TA last year to Montreal so got the day room and transfers as part of the package.
Not happening this year on the Quest TA to Miami. No day room etc. The other major change this year is that with Azamara UK arranged flights you always flew out the day before and spent a night in a local hotel before joining the ship next day. This year we are set to be flown out to Barcelona on the day Quest is due to sail - hopefully there are no flight delays. It seems that these days the more Azamara charges the less you get for your money
.[/quote
From the UK they stopped including hotels the night before the cruise in Europe some time ago.
I totally totally agree about getting less for your money, prices are now getting silly.
-
If you have your flight booked through Azamara, you should already have a day room as part of the package. We disembarked Quest approx 9 am and were booked into an airport hotel in Montreal last year. The transport to the hotel was also included.[/quote
You were very lucky that has never happened to us on our Azamara cruises anywhere in the World.
-
In 2009 we sailed up the Thames on Journey and should have moored at Tower Bridge.
We also had to moor at Greenwich, they told us it was because of work in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Anyway we spent a lovely day in and around Greenwich and really enjoyed it.

HI Arizonasunshine, I see you have cruised a lot with Azamara .
i have found a cruise in med that looks good but my t/a has said the most people that cruise the med on Azamara are from Greece
and food are orientated towards the majority on the cruise ???. Can you in lighten me on the make up of guests on AZamara and food and is the t/a right??
Definitely not the case at all.
The majority will be from the US and UK with a mix of others including from down under.
Food to suit all tastes.

Just remembered, think her name was Nathalia (sp)
We remember Nathalia very well, she was lovely.
Hope that she and her family are safe

And for the regulars no access to LCV upgrades either. The trouble with "offers" like these is the small print is so small! I'd rather trade down to an OV or Inside to know my cabin as there are now quite a few no nos for us. On a small ship the % of ones to avoid can be relatively high.
At the present time I believe that best policy is to avoid Azamara altogether.

And maybe for a long time to come, Silhouette is sailing from Southampton to the Baltic cities next year, as Eclipse is doing a short season (5 sailings) from Dublin and then the rest of the season from Amsterdam.
Eclipse is still sailing to the Baltic round trip Amsterdam in summer 2018
-
I can understand Phil why you might feel that way. I'm reading in Bonnies recent thread of magazines and emails going out and yet again, we seem to have fallen off the radar. :( Unless of course the whole of the UK crashed off the earth.....
Our emails are still arriving included one about upgrades, very unlikely to tempt us to book anything at current prices.

Both are ex 'R' ships.
I believe Azamara ships
were R7 & R8.
R6 is now Azamara Journey
R7 is Azamara Quest
R8 is P and O Adonia
-
Sorry to disagree but you will find that the 2019 cruises you are looking at will be cheaper 6-9 months prior to sailing. I doubt that these sailings will sell out due to the prices. You may have heard of the Az 'book pay save' offer which is closer to departure date in which you tend to get the best prices.
Nobody can be sure what will happen to future prices but the current Azamara trend seems to be ever upwards.
I will wait and see but our Azamara days are probably over.

That explains why it is the only cabin left on deck 7 on our cruise. The few other cabins on the other decks are under or over generally known noise makers.
My husband wants to know whether the aft cabins on Quest have noticeable vibration. He read it in a review.
Vibration is minimal at normal cruising speed, it only becomes noticeable if the ship needs to speed up for any reason

If it doesn't Azamara will probably regret all the changes that have been made to accommodate Cuba.
