Ironically, when this all went down, Carnival was the one I was concerned about. I took the refund rather than the FCC with them because I had zero faith in them doing what they said they would do. Turns out, Carnival came through and refunded in full in the timeframe they promised. I did have issues with communication with Carnival - I had nothing to show I had cancelled or that I was due any money back, and that concerned me. But, at the end of the day, they now owe me nothing.

I’m glad Carnival came through for you, BTW it’s been a month since I submitted my form for refund, but my credit card on file has expired, I sent email to my princess vacation planner ( PVP) and haven’t heard back,

Also, You were quoted on the cruise critic article! Did you see it?

  2. I just received an email from Princess for an upgrade from obstructed OV mid forward  on Caribbean Princess to OV mid forward Plaza , an $800 difference in current pricing, This is a 14 day cruise in May. A wonderful surprise!

The Market Place: I mention this only because I never discovered what it was actually for! It was an area on the open deck with a big sign and lots of counter space. But it was always empty. Anyone know???

On NCL, the marketplace is an outdoor venue for merchandise sales, T shirts, hats, sunglasses, etc. A lot of sale items.

I found it was only open during certain hours, when I went on the NCL Getaway.

  4. On my B2B 7 day cruises, I had three specialties coffees left over on day 7, and went to the front desk to ask if I could use them on my second leg. She said yes, as she looked on the computer.  On the second leg, the IC confirmed the pkg was valid. The coffee and cones on the lido deck, this was on the Caribbean Princess, often didn't charge my card, as they said they were too busy, I would expect the card carries over to the next leg, but I had intended to buy another coffee pkg for my second leg anyway.

We are underway, and I am sitting in the World Market on Lido deck. The Caribbean Princess has a really bad vibration problem. The silverware basket is rattling and slowly moving across the table. My wife was having a massage, and it felt like they installed vibrating tables.

Don't know if it is an HVAC, propulsion, or other problem.

We were on the the sailing last week also. The vibrations were loud and bothersome, especially in the Palm dining room room in the evening. One night, my grandson had to leave dinner due to the loud vibrations and noise. Hard to have conversations over the noise. Never experienced anything like this on a cruise.

Well the a/c issue is a concern.  We board saturday, and were on last summer and our room was warm.  Had to remove baffle to get decent airflow, but that was a balcony.  We are doing an inside this time. I need it below 72 to be comfortable.

See you Saturday! Im on the same cruise. I bring a giant thermometer with me, Hang it on the wall, and monitor the Temp, I've had too many warm cabins in the past, and the service desk seems to think  "you're in the Caribbean " is an OK excuse. I was on the Caribbean Princess 20 days last fall, and the air conditioning was great, so I'm hoping!!

I am looking at the Trans Panama Canal Cruises in Nov-Jan time frame. The 2019 prices are around $1,500/person OV (plus taxes, port fees, etc), and $1,900-$2,500 for Balcony.

The 2020 prices are almost twice that: $2,500 OV, and $2,800-3,300 for Balcony.

Any guess if the prices will come down?

I say book it now. I booked my 15 day Panama cruise in Nov 2018 for sept 2019.price was 2289 pp OV. now, at final payment coming up, price went down to 1309 pp. I re-fared, kept same cabin, and lost some OBC, but saved almost $2000.  The price went down throughout the year, and I re-fared each time. only once did it go up (in March).

If you want a certain area and cabin, its the best way , in my opinion. I kept a log, as I had another cruise I was re-faring , which only went down $100.

We are booked on a trans-pacfic, is it the same as the trans-atlantic?

I've done many transatlantic and one transpacific on Royal Caribbean .  The transpacific cruise, a 24 day from Seattle to Australia, was a lot rougher seas, more rainy days, and most ports were tender ports in the South Pacific islands. There were many lectures and more daytime activities on the crossings, Much more trivia, and of course, on the transpacific, a big celebration at sea at the International dateline. Adding a full day, and time changes add to the experience. On the Transatlantic cruises, we've circumvented hurricanes at sea a few times. In my experiences , when a passenger gets a cold, half the ship gets it. The  Infirmary was packed with people coughing and wanting cough medication, After that, I brought my own with me. Also, we encountered  more emergency evacuations and missed ports due to illness aboard. I also noticed the food is geared toward the area we were traveling to,  ie more European food.

The transpacific cruise was amazing with the very late sunsets and long days.

  9. Was on the rhapsody for 21 days last April, did the transatlantic. I had booked an OV cabin aft, turned out it was 2 small portholes. I asked at the desk to move rooms and they gave me a wonderful OV midship. Excellent ship, staff, entertainment, and diamond host.  WiFi was great.   I didn’t find the food all that good, but it’s subjective.

I am doing a 7 day next week on her again. The transatlantic following that cruise was the same price as the one week I’m taking. Wish I had time to do that, also.

That sounds just like what they do in Cozumel. LOL 😁

They've found that it increases food & beverage sales tremendously since loads of people just pack snacks & soda from the ship.

Exactly! They took my snacks,  and we joined all the others at the bar to buy overpriced food and drinks. The place was mobbed.

And in reply to Kitty 2264, the beach was awesome, no sharp rocks, no need for water shoes, special area where you can reserve a cabana.

  11. I took this excursion last fall on the Caribbean Princess. We went to seven mile beach. A great beach, but at the entrance, the staff rifled through our beach bags , and removed any source of food and drink. They confiscated cans of soda, sandwiches, cookies, fruit, it made the lines long waiting to get in.

If you are interested in a possible upsell or upgrade, booking a single cruise has an advantage. if you book two separate cruises, then you may receive an upgrade on one segment only - requiring you to change cabins. If you book a single cruise, then you will get an upgrade or an upsell offer only if it is for the entire cruise.

On my B2B 10 day cruises last fall, I received an upset offer, and the agent saw I was on a B2B, and found me an upgraded  cabin for both segments, with different prices, but it worked out well.

From what I have seen of drink prices on board RCI it would take less than half a dozen drinks a day to go past the cost of the drink package & thus make it worthwhile,in a way I am surprised that so many posters seem to not drink much at all on a cruise but I am also well aware that thousands cruise RCI & the number of posters on here is a very small percentage, perhaps those who do drink quite a bit are not inclined to own up!

Exactly! Snaefell!  The price of one frozen Pina colada was $14 on my last RCL cruise, and I can see how a few drinks at that price exceeds the drink pkg. The diamond lounge and slow service for a couple of drinks does not make up for it. I have decided to get a drink pkg on my upcoming April Rhapsody cruise, and enjoy coffee, water, specialty drinks, wine, and not be shocked by the high prices ala carte.
