  1. Two seniors, but veteran cruisers, DH has mobility issues, I just cancelled Comfort Suites airport, and booked Hilton Doubletree near the port. I know I'll bite the bullet on cab fare, but I think DH will be more comfortable being closer to the port. We are flying in 2 days early for our January 29th cruise. This is our first time sailing out of Miami..

Might price out Super Shuttle from MIA.

My bet is that a cab from MIA to the Doubletree (should be about $26-28+tip) will be cheaper than a shared shuttle ride from Super Shuttle - plus quicker and more convenient.

Doubletree is a nice hotel with some rooms offering a view of POM! :D

Thanks we will plan on a cab from MIA.

  3. What is shown on the TV is up to those in the venue at the time. If you go in and your family is the only one there' date=' you can have any station that the ship can receive. If there is already a game in progress and people are watching it, it won't get changed till the game is over or the people leave.[/quote']

I was cruising during the World Series and my METS were playing. I went to the Pub to catch the end of the Sat night game and the Texas football people would not let the bartender change the channel. Its the World Series, so what, we want football.

I went to the outdoor movies at the pool, but later caught the final innings in my stateroom.

Like moki said, you can get overruled in the Pub...if there are multiple sports available in the Pub ...

  4. Okay, so I am totally confused and need help !! I booked our air and ground transportation privately and did not go through DCL. We fly into Orlando and will be staying the night in Port Canaveral. At what point do we affix the luggage tags that are being sent to us ?? I have read that they need to be on the luggage when you do your airport check in but also read that if you arrange private air/ground then you shouldn't put them on until you are en route to the ship. Since we are staying overnight isn't it plausible that our luggage remains with us until embarking or is there something I am missing. So if the tags are affixed before airport check in the luggage will automatically be picked it by DCL and on its way to the ship. If not, we take the luggage with us to the ship and affix the tags just prior to embarking !? Thanks for your help and expertise...every question I have asked of my TA has gotten an "I don't know, I will check for you" and then a response a week later, maybe !!

The is no DCL luggage handling the night before. If you are taking private transportation, you take your luggage with you and then drop them off with porters at the port...Attach the tags on the same day you go to the port.

  5. Can we cancel shore excursions we've prepaid for on the ship?

You can cancel from home 3 days before your actual sailing date. After that they print the tickets, put them in your cabin, and charge your credit card.

If you are already on the ship, you can't cancel unless it is a medical emergency and you get a note from the ship's doctor. DH couldn't go on

a whale watching excursion after we paid and were on the ship. I had to pay $165 approx for the ships doctor to get our $145 back from his cancelled excursion.

We later were able to submit the fee to medicare and then trip insurance.

  6. There's a major negative with a winter departure from Manhattan in the late afternoon. The setting sun can interfere with your viewing the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and anything else on the starboard (New Jersey) side of the ship .

Sunset is 5:48PM on Nov 5th, 2016 the day we sail out of New York on the Disney Magic.

We should have some twilight when we sail past the Statue of Liberty, and under the bridges. Clocks will change the evening that we sail...We done this route before and it is cool to sail close to the Statue.

  7. The Kids Club will not be open during that time. The reason for the option in late dining is because the kids club is open.

Not really true. The kids club is always open during dinner times. The CM pickup only happens at the late dinner seating. Your kids can get their meals fast, but you have to take them to the club during early seating.

  8. Quality Inn North is often suggested, along with La Quinta East and Springhill Suites Medical Center. Last reports I read was that all three offered both airport and port shuttles.

There was a post last year about a cruiser getting robbed in the parking lot of the Quality Inn - check-in, go to your room, and don't come out until ready to leave. :(

What about Comfort Suites Miami Airport North in Miami Springs? or Embassy Suites Miami Airport?

  9. You prepay (if you want) because the service you will get on the ship is VERY GOOD...the staff doesn't GET the money until the cruise is over, anyway. Some folks like the convenience of paying for everything BEFORE they cruise! Makes no difference either way.

We add the pre-paid gratuities to our final payment. Using the Disney Visa Card we have 6 months to pay off the bill under the 6 months no interest promotion.. If you wait until the cruise, it goes onto your shipboard account and it does not qualify for the 6 months interest free promotion. We are veteran cruisers and have never reduced the recommended gratuities because of bad service on DCL.

  10. Don't usually buy early, but we are cruising in the winter to Miami. We fly out of Newark NJ, and I purchased 2 tickets from EWR to MIA for 1/27/17 3 months ago and paid $197 RT on United. The same flight on United nonstop is now $450+ each.

I guess this time we did OK purchasing early.

The downside with booking early is that your flight times can change. Yesterday UA cancelled my UA return flight from Miami for 2/8/17 at 2:30PM. They put us on a 3:30PM flight back to EWR. I called UA and asked to be put on the 1:10PM flight. They said "you know your flights are going to change again after they reset the schedules after daylight savings time ends". I said, yes I realize that, but I still prefer earlier than later.

We did book early and got a good fare. The same combo is now over $400.

  11. I know a couple years ago (on the Dream) it was on the screen in what was the main Theatre (Buena Vista?). Though the airing had none of the commercials, which is part of the fun of watching the Super Bowl.

You won't get the commercials on satellite but you will still get the game. We had fun.

In fact we will be on the Magic during the next Super Bowl Sunday in 2017..February 5th, 2017..

  12. We have sailed on Super Bowl Sunday the last two years. They will show the game on the funnelvision, the Sports Bar and on TV in your cabin. They will have finger food out by the sports bar and sometimes out by the pool. Last year the pub tables were all filled up by 4PM as fans wanted to grab their spot. After dinner, I went back to the sports bar, got a seat, and saw the end of the game. Don't forget to bring your NFL jersey to wear around the ship. We were also on DCL during the World Series and saw the last outs up by the pool in the rain. Have fun. Bring your sports gear to wear.

  14. I don't know how DCLers do the 3 and 4 night cruises. For us 7 days is too short, you just get into the swing of things and then have to get off. We just did a 10 day and thought that was the perfect amount of time. I know DCL doesn't do much, if any, 10 days but I wouldn't go on a 3 or 4 night cruise for the price it is just too short.

The Magic has a 5 night back to back with different ports. We booked it, so its 10 nights on the Magic out of Miami leaving January 29th, 2017. We also like longer cruises, especially re-positioning cruises.

  15. We have done a b2b on the Dream, but this winter we are doing a b2b on the Magic

out of Miami. We have the same cabin, but this b2b is different ports but both stopping at CC. It will be fun. DH has mobility issues, we have an inside cabin accessible. Last time b2b we waited around 45 minutes in the lounge, then we were let back on the ship by 10:30am. We went to cove café and just hung out with the bartender, and had some complimentary coffee. We are a retired couple who enjoy cruising but take it slow.

This is our first time sailing out of Miami in the winter, so we are flying down from the northeast 2 days before our Magic back-to-back.

  16. So i decided that I am going to stick with my 5 day Disney Magic cruise next year. I am contemplating taking my kids to Disney world for a few days there or adding on the 4 day magic cruise and doing a back to back since adding that would total out to what I would have paid for 7 days on the fantasy.

For those who have cruised back to back do you enjoy it? Does it just seem like the same cruise you just got off or do things get changed up a bit ? Any insight would be great.

  17. One quick look at the first pic and my brain said "That's 36"

We were in 36 once on the Wonder and the balcony had a problem with getting wet when they were washing the upper decks or something. It was a daily issue. Never had the problem on the Magic' date=' so I don't know if it was resolved or ? That was my first experience with an HA cabin.[/quote']

We were in 7636 on the Magic three years ago and did not like that the balcony flooded daily. We even had housekeeping use a shop vac to soak up the water. DH needs a HC cabin so the cabin was acceptable but the flooded, wet balcony was not. We travel now in a HC cabin ocean view or inside on the Magic.

  18. THey have 2 options--on some cruises they can choose to pay for the teen boot camp which is supervised by a trainer. On most cruises' date=' the Vibe group has gym time late at night, after the facility has "closed" to all others. They are supervised by the YAC and the fitness center staff.

DCL states that it is an insurance issue; I don't know if that is true or not. What I do know is that any time they draw a line, there are people who want to shift that line for any number of reasons. The fitness center is an "adult only" space. There is limited equipment and sometimes people waiting for treadmills and some of the other more popular items. Kids running around and hogging equipment at the Y was a large part of the reason I joined an "adult only" gym, and I would hate to see kids in the gym on the ship. I'm sure there are teens who have a reason to work out. On one cruise, we met a teen who was trying out for the olympic gymnastic team. But she was cruising with the blessing of her coach and with a program developed by him that did not need a gym.[/quote']

A little OT, but on the Wonder we met a young teen from England who was an aspiring ryth. gymnastic athlete and she and her Mother were using the scooter parking public space on deck 6 to do her stretching program. The Mom had an entire folder of instructions from her coach. I saw them there every day.

  19. Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help!

Cruising with family in 2016 on the Magic out of NYC. Kids will be 2 years 10 months and 20 months.

The signs on the water slide say "ages 4-11" with a height of at least 38 inches. If my son is not 4, but over 38 inches, can he ride?

Can someone please explain the transportation from Port Canaveral to WDW? Am I responsible for finding it?

    Thanks again everyone!

If you are on the Magic cruise out of NYC that has a port stop of Port Canaveral, your transfers to and from the parks are included in your cruise fare. You have to sign up

for a bus time on board the Magic, and the return bus will run every 30 minutes and you will get that information on board the ship.

  20. On DCL, your excursions are charged to your onboard account. If you want to, you can put some Onboard Credit on your reservation to cover the excursion cost. Just use this form:

    http://dcl1.wdpromedia.com/media/dcl_v0400/Site/PlanningCenter/GiftsAndAmenities/OrderForm-GiftsAmenities-2015-v4.pdf

    We do this.

When we cruised Alaska on Disney my excursions cost $900.00 so I added an on board credit to my account using my Disney Visa. It gave us the option of paying over 6 months with no interest and so no big charges went to our credit card on board.

  21. I agree with the PP that DCL might not be the right choice for a Med cruise. My theory on cruising is that in the Caribbean I chose based on the ship, in Europe or other locations I cruise based on the itinerary. I just don't think DCL is worth the higher cost on a port intensive cruise where the ship is more of a floating hotel.

I agree, we had booked our first European Capitals cruise on Disney in 2010, but then changed to Princess since it was $3000 cheaper, and they went to most of the same ports. We were following the Magic around the ports, either before or after. It was so port intensive that we made a good choice. It didn't hurt that we were upgraded from a mini-suite to an aft full suite. DH was impressed. We mainly cruise DCL but on a port intensive cruise I wouldn't hesitate to change cruise lines.
