  1. We were assigned to 6500 on the Magic--no problems. No noise issues or otherwise.

Thanks. We are doing the WB Panama Canal in October from San Diego. I'm going

to rent an ECV for DH for the duration of the cruise. I know he is going to tire out walking

back and forth to the dining rooms in the aft since our cabin 6500 is way forward.

He might not even want the ECV but I can't take the chance of him being miserable

on a 14 night cruise. Looking forward to the 9A since we had the cat 11 on our last 3 trips.

  2. We stayed in 2033, and 2535 (twice) on the Fantasy and Dream. It wasn't the elevator that bothered us, but it was the noise from the crew space next to our walls.. It was banging, and doors slamming and just noisy all night long. . I told our host

and he reported our complaint and for 2 days the slamming was minimal, but on the

last night it was loud and on the last night as we were going faster, there was creaking and other noises. 2033 was worse than 2535. Since we still need an accessible cabin, we are going to try 9A 6500 on the Wonder and 6014 8A on the Fantasy for our next 2 cruises.

DH loved the convenience of being on deck 2, but I didn't like the cabin noise.

  3. On the Hyatt website it says you can sign up for a shuttle to the ship through the hotel.

    Is that the DCL shuttle?

If not do we sign up for the DCL shuttle through our cruise reservation?

Also, does taking the DCL shuttle offer an earlier boarding time?

    Thanks!

Be careful what Hyatt you are looking at on the website. The Hyatt Place 2

miles from the airport offers a park and ride package which includes a shuttle

to the port. They tell you what time they will leave.

The Hyatt Airport location is attached to the airport and they don't have a shuttle, but the

DCL shuttle leaves from the airport at a cost of $35 per person and they leave in random

increments from the Disney Transportation Center in Terminal B, ground floor starting at 915AM.

  4. One last question. Do they offer pressing service on the first day of the cruise? If I were to call to have something picked up would I possibly have it back by dinner the next night?

Yes, we have done this. Put your items to be pressed in the white cloth bag, fill out the form and be sure to put press only. Put the bag out on your FE as soon as you get your bags. We do it before the safety drill. They will return your pressed items by 4PM the next day. They know you want them for dinner.

  5. Except for the last morning, there is a sit down, order from the menu, restaurant available only until 9:30AM for breakfast. They won't rush you out, they just won't let anyone in after 9:30AM. Closing time might vary if you are on extended cruises. DH likes sit down, but not getting up early. As posted, just check your daily navigator.

  6. Does Disney supply no tears shampoo and hair conditioner? Don't mind if they don't - just need to know if I need to bring it for our grandaughter.

No you have to bring your own no tears shampoo. They supply H2O products adult products. They are very good for adults.

  7. I looked this up when it came out on Wednesday, I went back today and I'm pretty sure the price went up. Should've booked when I first saw it.

Yes, the prices went up on those cruises that have Star Wars day onboard them. Almost immediately.

Sailed on the DREAM 2/2 to 2/6/2015 and booked a placeholder getting 10% off the fare. Moved it the day the SW cruises came out to 2/6/2016. Now the price went up 10% more, so I am at 10% + 10%= 20% less than today's fare. We grabbed the only HC 8A and are very happy.

  8. Yes she can bring her personal ecv on the ship. We rent one in Orlando, take it on the DCL transfer bus and bring it on the cruise. Turning corners is tight and you will have door sills but you can assist her with that. We have had an accessible 4B on the DREAM but now DH likes the accessible 11C because it is on deck 2 near restaurants.

  9. GTY is offered when a certain percentage of a given category is sold. There is always a category attached. You can book a 9GTY or a 6GTY for example. These may be offered at any time. There is no price reduction. You can be assigned any cabin of your category or nicer. You typically find out your room assignment at 30-45 days before embarkation. This CAN be combined with an onboard booking.

*GT (IGT/OGT/VGT) is a special restricted rate offered when DCL is not booking up the ship as soon as they'd like to. It is generally available after the penalty period' date=' but I have seen rare instances where it was available earlier. You choose your cabin type (inside, oceanview, verandah) but not your category or cabin. DCL can put you in any cabin of your type or nicer on the entire ship. You CAN upgrade at the port, in which case you are charged at the lowest level in your type. Example--if you booked an OGT, you will be charged as an upgrade from a cat 9 regardless of what your actual assignment is. You typically find out your assignment 14-21 days before embarkation. This type of fare has many restrictions attached--read the fine print before you book. You get a large price reduction and if it works for you, can be a super deal. Cannot be combined with any other Disney offers.[/quote']

On my upcoming Magic cruise, the "GT" rates are greatly reduced. Past the penalty period, full payment required, etc. But they are greatly reduced. So some guarantees do come with reduced fares.

As explained, there is a big difference in booking category for GTY vs IGT, OGT and VGT rates.

  10. I've been behind the elevators with a 4-year old and no noise at all. You certainly can pay for an upgrade, if any upgrades are available. Also, you can see if there are any available rooms in your current category. As others have said, you book a guarantee, you're taking a risk, usually for a lower fare.

DH has mobility issues so we always book near the elevators. We have not had any problems with elevator noise.

GTY are not reduced fares, only that at the time there is no room to assign but you do pay regular rates.

  11. If you are taking DCL transfers back to the resort after the cruise, you can leave your bags out the night before and they will bring them to the terminal. You have to claim the bags, go thru customs, and take the bags to the bus. There is no luggage service to the resorts from the port.

Forgot to add that there are porters waiting with carts as you take the elevator down to the luggage area. We tip $5 and have the porter go with us thru customs and to the bus. We are old folks and like the convenience.

  12. If you are taking DCL transfers back to the resort after the cruise, you can leave your bags out the night before and they will bring them to the terminal. You have to claim the bags, go thru customs, and take the bags to the bus. There is no luggage service to the resorts from the port.

  13. Does anyone know how soon they have you disembark once you make port on the last day?Our flight does not leave until 3:30pm,we want to stay on the ship as long as we can.

You have to be out of your cabin by 8AM and off the ship between 9AM and 9:30AM.

  14. Does anyone know if/when Disney plans to cruise from New York? On their website they list NY as a port, but when you try and search for cruises it's not an option. Just wondering if they plan to cruise from there again anytime soon. Thanks.
Probably not a departing port, but they do/did stop in NY on the translantic. On the website you see Mickey & the Statue of Liberty but it is a tease. No NY departures in 2014 or 2015. Some folks going on the translantic were planning on getting on in NY instead of Florida, and Disney did allow that. We did go on the cruise to Canada from NYC and it was great not having to fly anywhere. We can hope, but I don't think so.
  15. We are also staying at POP one night before the cruise. We are using the Disney Transport. I know its a little pricey ($140 round trip for 2 of us). But we like not having to drive, we enjoy just kicking back. But maybe if i had a party of 10 i would look at some different options.

Also, correct me if im wrong here, but i thought someone had told me that if a disney bus was broken down or delayed for some reason, the ship will be held (they wont leave a bus full of cruisers high and dry). But if you have your own transport and you miss the boat, it is totally up to you to get to the next port of call. That gives me a little piece of mind knowing they wont leave me hanging should something go wrong.

We are two seniors 65+ staying at a resort pre-cruise and we like taking the DCL transfers for the luggage handling to the port. You get your checked bags ready by 8AM and bell services will pick them up from inside your hotel room, and they go on a truck to the port.

And you are correct, DCL will hold the ship or make other arrangements to get you to the ship if you are delayed because of traffic, etc. if you paid for DCL transfers.

  16. This past cruise (1st Disney cruise) we used the cruise airline checkin and they printed our boarding passes and checked our luggage for us, and we used the cruiseline transport back to the airport. This coming cruise, we have an 8:30PM flight so we are just going to rent a car and go do something for the day, wondering if we will still be able to use the airline checkin and get our boarding passes and have them check our bags or will we have to take our bags with us since we aren't using their transportation?

No, you have to use DCL transfers back to airport to be eligible for cruise airline check in.

This past pay I paid for transfers from resort to port, but since I had a late flight I rented a car to drive to the airport. The DCL online is confusing because when I finished my online check in it brought me to a screen to verify airline check in, but when I got to the port the CM said, no, no.

  17. Our flight was at 11:35AM, we purchased transfers. When I went into my account during online check in, I also could not click "How are you getting to the airport". DCL transfers were grayed out. It was no problem, when I got my booklet, I filled out the airport checkin coupon and gave it to the cast member. We had no problems getting off the ship, taking the DCL bus and getting to the airport in plenty of time.

Also we put out our checked luggage the night before and never saw it again until we got to our home airport.
