  1. my family was in Santorini on July 22. We ended up walking down the stairs. Never again!! OMG, it was horrible. Maybe it would be better when its not so hot, but I wore running shoes and I slipped many times. My legs were shaking I was so scared of slipping and falling on my ass LOL. Plus the donkey's were rushing by at one point...made it scarier.  Btw I'm 48, DH 51 and kids are teens. We all slipped and in the end wished we had waited for the cable car.

  2. I am sitting at home killing time, waiting to board my flight to Paris later tonight. We are in Paris, Venice then Rome before we board our cruise on July 18th.  We have our carryons and backpacks ready to go.  I have found the packing cubes very helpful in saving space.  Granted I will have to repeat outfits I wore on land part of the trip, on the cruise...I'm so happy we were able to fit everything in carry ons. I"m on Air Canada and our flight is delayed an hour....not taking the chance of losing time fighting for my luggage too!!

    Good Luck...it can be done!

We were going to do Delos on our own, I think pretty easy to do, just be aware of the ferry schedule from Mykonos to Delos and when you ship will be there. I would just look it up online. Also some ships dock in port (and then you have to walk or take a water taxi to the main area, but the water taxi takes you right next to the Delos ferry), or tender, so factor that in to the timing of your port time and ferry departures/return ferry. Our schedule would’ve worked out just fine. We didn’t go because we were too tired.

I think you were given good advise on beach, we didn’t do the beach so I can’t recommend anything. There’s a strip of cafes and restaurants very close to the Delos ferry, I would plan to meet up there when your family is due to return and grab a bite or very yummy gelato!

    awesome, thank you. 🙂

  4. Hello,

My family of 4 will be in Mykonos in July. We have never been.

I want to just spend the morning/early afternoon relaxing at a beach, but DH and kids (aged 15 and 17) want to go to Delos before meeting up with me for lunch.

I've already asked here, and the recommendation was not to book a sunbed ahead of time, but just go to a beach and rent one once I'm there. Do you have a recommendation where a single woman will feel safe and not scammed?  Does anyone know if I'll be able to rent 2 sunbeds even though I'll be the only one there for a few hours?

How should the rest of them go to Delos? There is always the option of booking through the cruise line, but I try and do things on our own. Is there an easy way to get a tour once we are on the island?

    Thanks

I think this is a really great idea to be able to reserve some loungers, but one of the companies that they partner with DK Oyster appears to have deceptive business practices and there are several lawsuits from US and UK based tourist. Some to the extent which they have told customers that they will call the police and not be allowed to return to their home country if they don’t pay their outrageous bills. Apparently their pricing is misleading in that day list it in a tiny amount that no one would think to take the time to convert it to know what they are actually paying. It’s deceptive marketing especially if you’re on holiday and also trying to figure out the conversion of local money in euros to your home country’s money. I don’t object to overprice drinks per se, but I do object to the way they treat customers.

Oh wow, thanks for the information! I think I'll just go to a beach and see what happens.

  6. Hi,  my family of 4 will be stopping in Sicily in July in the port of Siracusa. I have a tour with Rome In Limo to take me to Mt. Etna.

How do I book a tour up Mt. Etna before we get there? I haven't been able to find the official site.

    thanks

The death rates have been higher,. That is like a cold isn’t true for everyone .

In Canada there is random testing upon arrival,   It’s unconscionable to fly knowing one is positive.

Right?? Like we prefer you not to come to Canada to possibly spread it here Thank you!!

  8. can I ask a question here. I asked it in the port board, but no one answered.

I will be in Kusadasi in July. We have a tour of Ephesus booked and I've asked to be dropped off at 1:30 at Ladies Beach for lunch and leisure.  I wondered what the best way to get back to port was?

    Thanks

Do you have your sailing open on the app?   Select dining option then select main dining room and should show the word menu in blue, click on that.

At the bottom of the screen you can day 1, day 2, etc.

Also, if you go to cruise planner on royal Caribbean site you will see pricing for specialty restaurants.   Most serve lunch at a much cheaper price for almost the same menu as dinner.

I did what you said, but the word menu doesn't appear. I will keep trying. Thanks for the help 🙂

I was thinking about booking Teppenyaki for one night on my recent cruise on Odyssey, the idea being to book it for a night that had a menu we didn't particularly care for in the MDR. Ahead of time, I could have got it in the cruise planner for $38 pp but I didn't want to book and then it potentially clash with a menu we liked and not be able to change.

Once on board, the price was $54 pp, so we ended up not booking it at all.

Note that your one sea day could potentially be formal (aka lobster) night unless it's the very last night of the cruise, if that matters to you.

    great info thanks!

  11. Hi, my family of 4 will be taking a tour with Ephesus Shuttle in July. Once we do the tour of Ephesus and Terrace Houses we have requested to be dropped off at Ladies Beach to relax and have some lunch.  We want to also have some time to shop and wondered what the best way to get to the port area from Ladies Beach was.

is there a market around Ladies Beach, or is it better to shop around the port. We are there form 7am to 8pm.

    TIA

  12. Thank You Hank, appreciate the detailed info.  So I guess I will not book a day pass but use the bus to find a beach.

My husband and kids want to first go to Delos then meet me at the beach. I guess it should be okay for me to go by myself and grab 2 sunbeds for when they are back right? We definitely will be eating lunch and I will order some drinks for myself while I relax without the family LOL.

Does anyone have experience with a place that has good food on Ornos beach?

    thanks

Any luck?  I am tempted to go to St. John but unfortunately our ship does not get to port until 12 noon.  I asked the hotel if they could offer us lunch and afternoon snack since we are missing breakfast and they said they could not.  Seems expensive for just lunch at the resort.  Any other ideas you came up with?  Thanks!

I had asked the same thing as my husband and kids wanted to first do Delos then come. I was hoping for a reduced fee, but they said no. I haven't booked anything yet.  I've also seen where you can book a subbed elsewhere but I'm still not sure. I haven't gotten much feedback here for that. Most people are saying to just find a beach once there. I kinda of want to book ahead though.

Still looking.I will update if I find any other info.

Going from Siracusa adds another hour going and returning.

I'm disappointed to be honest. May never be in Sicily again..wondering if it's worth still going to Mt. Etna?

  15. I'm on the July 18th sailing of Rhapsody and kinda bummed we are not going to Catania. I had already booked a tour of Mt. Etna and Taormina. We are in port from 8am -6pm, I'm guessing the time it will take for us to get there from Siracusa is not worth it right?  The kids were so excited to be going up the volcano...ugh

Plain admission tickets are bookable 60 days in advance.

Most tickets that involve a guided tour are available many months in advance. I just checked October and they are all there.

The real problem is getting tickets to tour the Colosseum, especially the arena and underground tours.  They are available in the official website (www.coopculture.it) 30 days in advance.  However, there are "bots" that scoop up all the tickets the nanosecond they become available.  These tickets are then used by the many tour companies that sell tours for a much higher price.  There is a work around if you are willing.  The tours are also given in other languages and the bots tend to leave tickets available to the public. You can buy your tickets for the Italian or Spanish tours and if you don't speak either, there is a free app you can download and use during your tour.  I know. I booked my Spanish tours this morning. 😱

Oh man!! I have a reminder set on my phone to book the colosseum tickets 30 days out,  but now it seems I'm going to have no hope of getting them. That really sucks!  I was hoping not to pay the crazy prices of the tour groups.

We went on a great tour to Ephesus with Ephesus Shuttle in April 2022 and I would recommend them to anyone. We booked a group tour - up to 10 people but we were the only two on the tour. I was impressed that they still ran the tour for just two people. We got to Ephesus before the tour buses and our guide Orkan was excellent. Communication was quick and easy via WhatsApp and we paid at the end of the tour. All in all highly recommended and at a fraction of the cost of the cruise company tours. https://www.ephesusshuttle.com/categories/kusadasi-to-ephesus?id=1

Good to hear...we have them booked for a tour in July!
