  1. We just got off Royal this past week and this was my third with Princess. I am 66 years old but we also like a little action at night . I found it to be a little quiet again on this cruise . My thoughts border your thoughts from your cruise. I also found the days around the pool to be very lay back. They had one activity around the pool on tues and one on sat. and that was about it. The theme night was a joke and does not even come close to other cruise lines we have been on. I loved the ship, food, and service and also the shows but they need to get with the program on all around entertainment for all ages. I want to book another cruise with princess but this topic seems to be holding us bac!

It is what is holding us back too. We are afraid to be in the caribbean with not much to choose from on a given night.

But - did you LOVE the Royal Princess ?!! Loved the ship and the itinerary !!

  2. Question - is there (much) more entertainment on a Caribbean cruise (in Aug) than we experienced in Europe this past July. Specifically asking about Princess Cruises.

Hi all. We cruised for the first time on Princess (The Royal Princess) in Europe in July. It was an amazing experience. We loved the ship, loved the crew, loved the food, loved the wine. Almost everything was awesome. The only negative >> there was next to ZERO entertainment for the under 50 crowd. We were all hard pressed to find enough to do in the evenings. 10 adults in our group and the only complaint anyone had was the lack of entertainment. We chalked it up to the port intensive itinerary. But we are ready to book again, but 6 of the 10 of us have balked at doing another Princess cruise because of the lack of entertainment. There are 6 adults who want to go to RCI (Allure). There are a few who would prefer to go back to Princess based solely on the food and the wine choices.

    Opinions ??

  3. we had $200 on OBC gift certificates that we received as a christmas gift one year. We tried to us it on the Oasis but were told we could not as you need to "tell" them 2 weeks in advance you have these certificates. So we saved them for the next year on our Alaskan Cruise.

Nextt trip I registered them over a month in advance but when we got onboard we were told I was not going to be able to use them as they were not activated. Well thank goodess I had the time, date, name of person I spoke to and a confirmation number saying I did in fact activate them. After many trips to the Bursar over 4 days we were finally able to get the OBC added to our account.

Never again would I ask for or give someone this type of gift certificate from RCI. It was horrible.

  4. If I were you I would take the jacket back and buy layers instead. A waterproof windbreaker with a fleece, and a long-sleeved shirt is all you will need. I only ever take my sailing windbreaker (waterproof) and fleece when I go to Alaska. I was far colder in the UK last summer than I have ever been on an Alaskan cruise.

Even in Alaska, that is by far the smartest way to go. I have seen the temperatures in Ketchikan go from 90F and sunny one day to 45F and raining like crazy the next, but when the weather gets that nasty, you won't want to be going out at all.

I agree - I had a thin fleece worn with long sleeve cotton t's - more than enough - and we toured via land first starting in Fairbanks down into Denali for 3 days and then to Seward where we boarded - coldest 2-3 hours were when the ship went next to the glacier -

    Return the jacket.

  5. Bethany & Rhonda,

I'm orginally from NY, but living in the Sunshine State over 20 years. Alby was born in Havana but grew up in Miami since she was 5. We LOVE living here! It's especially nice to be able to hop on the ships any time. Looking forward to connecting on board!!

    ;)

lucky girl to not be in NY (especially in LI).

Whenever I get to retire we hope to move to FL.

    Reasons:

    no more snow.

    warmer temps.

    able to cruise more easily.

    :):D:)

  6. The Copper Whale B& B was fine. There was only either metered parking or a garage a couple blocks down. The rooms were adequate.....There was absolutely nothing to complain about and I don't think they could do anything to improve upon what was there. The grounds were well attended and the rooms were clean and nice. That being said, for whatever reason, it didn't blow me away. I can't say why. Would we stay there again, absolutely but more likely, we would look for somewhere else. Like I said, no reason at all.

I know this probably doesn't help at all. It was located about 4 or 5 blocks from the main area of downtown. Very walkable.....

Thanks for the nice comments :D

Even if it is what some may perceive to be a funny question .. was the ship warm while cruising Alaska .. in the dining room for example ?

    Thank you. :)

  7. The room I have now is deck 11, 11558.. With the bed by the closest.. I was looking on their website, and I could get on deck 10, 10548, which would have the bed by the balcony.. The deck 11 one which I have is a little closer to the elevator, and up one more deck obviously.. Would I be doing a good thing in switching to that cabin, a little farther down the hall and 1 deck down? I'd have to call my travel agent and go through all of that to get it changed.. And the price on the royal website is a little bit more expensive than when I booked so I'm not sure if I'd have to pay the difference even though its in the same category.. Opinions? Should I change or keep it since the location is a little better?

My opinion .. change to the cabin where the bed is at the balcony. It is easier to "navigate" in the cabin. This is just MY OPINION.

  8. Ok, I'm going to go with 8650. I hope you guys are right! ;) DH much prefers balcony placement. I've searched this thing ad nauseam. I hadn't been able to find an answer. Thanks so mch!

8650 is not near the balcony.

    Check these two links ..

  9. I live in Westchester County. My wife and I cruise every August with our family and friends. Last August we did the Miracle out of NYC it was a fun cruise. This year we are crusing on the Conquest out of New Orleans, I am excited about this one because I was able to get 4 of my other lesbian friends to go, so now it wont be just me and my wife.

Have a great time. My wife and I can't seem to convince many of our friends to try cruising either. I think it is a GREAT way to vacation. So relaxing. We cruise with my sister & her family usually, and some of my BIL's family too. :)

  10. Other ships do not have the same issue. All of the cabins in a particular category will be pretty much the same configuration throughout the category. Oasis and Allure are the first RCI ships to not have the traditional rectangular shaped cabins. This is what makes the alternating configurations necessary.

Thank you, Ocean Boy. Where is the bed if an E1 on Deck 7 of the Radiance ? :)

  11. We booked 11194 as it has the full balcony and only has one quad next to it instead of the middle cabin of the hump that is surrounded by quads. We also booked on deck 11 as we wanted to avoid any overhang from 14. The Jewel has a BIG overhang. Have no idea on the Oasis but so we avoided anyway. Nothing wrong with 11 or 14 though.

on the Oasis - was (your) cabin 11194 near the balcony ?

    :)
