  1. We currently have $550 OBC using the Landmark sale and TA perk. Does Princess ever let you combine promos? I told my current TA about the 3 day sale from the different agency and asked if there was anything she could do to get closer to the free drink and grats promo of which she can't but she did bring up the $550 OBC stating that it could be possible Princess would let it be combined with the Sip N Sail when they release it next month. I can't wait to see since the other promo would be done by the time Princess releases the SNS. I have never experienced any other cruise line allowing this but this is our first time on Princess.

  2. Back last winter I called and asked Princess why my May 2019 Alaskan cruise was not included in a Spring 2019 promo and the agent I spoke with said all Alaskan cruises are considered "summer", so does anyone have any knowledge as to whether May 2019 Alaskan cruises will be eligible for this promo?

Found the answer on the website of the TA if anyone else is wondering - yes spring 2019 Alaskan cruises are included.

  4. Without any long drawn out dialog here I saw the "Landmark" sale become available for our Sept. 2019 cruise, which we booked through Princess website when it was published, I just called Princess direct and ask them to add this sale to our sailing, bingo, bango, bongo no problem done in less than 5 minutes. I just don't understand why put a middle man into the equation, ie: Big box store or a TA.

Because we got an additional $100 OBC, specialty dining and VIP boarding from the TA. I do all the research, choose the room I want and then call the TA to book it. Then I email her whenever I see something I want her to check on, such as thenLandmark Sale, and she emails back with the new confirmation. One other time I used a TA because he was able to get me a corner aft cabin with double occupancy which could only be booked online or by calling that particular cruise for quad occupancy. He had an "in" with someone at the cruise line.

  5. I heard back from my TA this morning and she got the $500OBC added and I kept the attractive low fare she offered, lower than what shows on Princess.

Do we know if this OBC is refundable or not? I would be hard pressed to spend $500 on a 7 day cruise as I never use Princess shore excursions. TA says it is use it or lose it OBC.

Yes, it says right on my booking summary that it is nonrefundable.

  6. The Landmark Sale for Alaska cruises seems to be only showing on the one-way voyages. Hopefully they just haven't completed uploading all the sailings yet. The list someone provided a couple of pages back has my May 2019 sailing listed but so far this morning it isn't on the Princess site.

  7. Are Harv and Marv's public tours booked for your day? If not, I'm sure you can book for 4 people and pay for 4 people on either their 6 person or 18 person public tours. If you book a private tour then you pay a set price regardless of the number of people.

  8. I never use a TA but did when booking our Princess cruise because the TA was able to give us some good perks. Email/call both of those you mentioned for quotes. I checked both of them in Canada before booking and one had better perks than the other.

  9. I was looking for the same info yesterday. 2018 Alaska cruises aren't up and running yet, so I don't think there's anything to see there yet.

However, I did find this thread from the Northbound Voyage of the Glaciers cruise from late May 2017. In post #16, he posts a link to download photos of all the menus, and later on he posts a link to download the Princess Patters from the trip. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2508384

Looks like *lots* of seafood. (I'm not a fan of seafood, but I think I can still find something to eat!)

Thanks kim_mo! I wasn't able to get it to open but I will check back later in the season and hopefully someone else posts in their review.

  10. Such great info on here from those who live in the area that I thought I would ask about whales. I would love to see Orcas and had planned to do a whale watching excursion in Juneau but just read Orcas are rarely seen there and better chance of seeing them in Vancouver. We will be there in mid May - are Orcas usually in the area at that time of year? Humpbacks? Any difference in departures or tour companies from Steveston or Granville Island? Many thanks!

  11. We have smelled someone smoking pot on our last two cruises, coincidentally both times after leaving Jamaica. There is no way to tell where it is coming from if one did want to tattle, unless maybe it was right beside, but then how does anyone prove it anyway? That being said, I always book cabins that are convenient to smoking areas for my husband as he would never smoke on the balcony now that it isn't allowed.

  12. Thanks for the opinions. I think we will stay downtown the night before.

Martincath, yes family live in Abbotsford, we see them very infrequently so definitely gonna stay with them before the cruise - we were originally planning to visit them then decided we would do the cruise while we are there. We are staying downtown for 3 days after the cruise without a car so won't be commuting in or having to worry about parking, plus now the night before the cruise. I have been out there a couple times so have done a lot of the touristy things around the area and also a few of the touristy things downtown - stayed at Lonsdale Quay a few years ago, crossed on the seabus, rented a bike and did the Stanley Park thing, aquarium, Granville Island, etc., whatever we could fit in 2 days, but loved downtown so much just want to stay right there to tour around at our leisure [emoji2]

  13. It can be very busy at Canada Place between those getting off the ship and those arriving. Also depends on how many cruises are in port that day.

What day are you going to be there so we can try to see how many ships in port.

If it was me though I would spend the night in downtown Vancouver.

May 8, 2019 - I'm an early planner[emoji4] - looking at the same date this year there are three ships in port.

  14. Wondering how traffic jammed the area is on ship day? We will be staying outside Vancouver the week before the cruise and not sure whether to spend the night before downtown and return the car that afternoon rather than the morning of cruise. Also those who live in the area, would you suggest arriving downtown the day before or driving in from Abbotsford after the morning rush?

  15. For those thinking about the YWCA Hotel I just thought I would confirm Martincath's description of the hotel and the area. I have a brother and SIL in the outskirts of Vancouver who gave me the names of several hotels in the downtown area to consider for the nights we want to stay in downtown and when I mentioned the YWCA Hotel my SIL didn't really know much about it and would never have considered staying there so she called her sister who works in downtown Vancouver and has lived in Vancouver for many years and she also highly recommended the YWCA Hotel and said it is a great area with easy access to everything and very close to the Yaletown skytrain terminal for the Canada Line that goes to Vancouver Airport. We will definitely be booking there.

  16. Thanks for the great info martincath! A few years ago when in the area we stayed across the inlet and travelled all over the downtown area by bus and bicycle. There was one area we went through on the bus on the way to Granville Island that looked kind of scary but I have no idea where it was. The YWCA sounds great and I will be watching for them to open up reservations for our time.

  17. Depends how many fellow cruisers have read my posts;-)

But in all seriousness, I'd book it right now if they'll let you - it does sell out consistently, especially the 'regular hotel room' rooms with en suite bathrooms.

I have been looking at the YWCA Hotel but wasn't sure of safety in the area but I saw your earlier post that says it is [emoji4]. Is it close to a transit stop? We are also planning on using the hop on/off trolley for a day, do you know if it is close to one of their stops or what the closest cross street would be? Our cruise isn't until next May so hopefully I can keep checking for them to open bookings and snatch a room with a private bathroom.
