  1. Thanks for all your food tips every one. I now know we won't go hungry. 😊
  2. Is it possible to snack between meals when onboard? if we felt like some cheese and crackers, for example, can we get it anytime or just certain times during the day? Can you bring your own snacks on board ?
  3. Oh no Haljo I dont see the scallops on your menu but they're on the sample menu on the HAL website. I dont eat red meat so hoping they're being offered.
  4. That's interesting that extra entrees and sides are included on the HIA but extra appetizers are not. Thanks
  5. I have the “Have it all” package which includes a night of specialty dining. I booked the Pinnacle. Do you know whether there’s a dollar amount that’s included and if we’d need to pay the difference if we go over that set amount? The drinks are done this way, so wondering if dining is the same.
  6. I booked rhe HIA but gratuities weren’t included But at least I was able to book it! Interesting that some packages are different from others.
  7. This is slightly off topic but is there a charge to go into the casino? I would think anyone is welcome if spending money but thought I'd ask.
  8. I called a different number as suggested and was able to purchase the HIA package. She cancelled an excursion and rebooked it with the $100 credit. Thanks for helping with this!
  9. What other department did you try Antkipper I had already spoken to a supervisor who said I needed to upgrade to receive the package and I noticed on their website it’s changed to mention the upgrade needed. Anyway, I already purchased an excursion so I doubt they’d give me a $100 credit back after booking the HIA but I’ll try!!
  10. Today I decided I would purchase the HIA package but when I went to purchase it, I wasn't able to. I spoke with customer service who told me I wasn't eligible because I purchased a standard fare. I explained that this information wasn't mentioned on their website but they insisted it was. So apparently not everyone's eligible. He said I am "eligible." I just have to top up my fare and then purchase it which I won't be doing. I wonder if we need to sit at the back of the dining room because of our "standard fare. " Didn't feel good but on the other hand, I dont really need the package.
  11. Thanks for your help so far...I see that wifi is $15 a day but still not sure what a soda,,bottled water a beer or glass of wine would would cost per day. My daughter wants the wifi so maybe we get one package for her and I get the drinks with it ? I would like to know how much a cocktail costs, being that the package has. a cap at $11 per drink. Seems odd to offer a package and not include cocktails that cost more than what you want to provide.
  12. Thanks Oakridger for your info. I guess I didn’t do enough research before posting this. Still not sure if I’ll get the HIA. The excursions I’m interested in are sold out. Maybe I can smuggle some drinks in my suitcase . Jk

  14. Im wondering if this "Have it all "package is good value but cant seem to find the individual break down of prices without the package so that I can compare. Would like to know how much wifi is per day and cost of drinks, including non alcoholic drinks such as bottled water. Seems we are charged for every cold drink throughout the day..This package does give a $100 credit towards an excursion which makes it more of a deal but would like to hear your thoughts on it. We drink a lot of Zevia at home which is a sugar free flavoured soda but dont imagine we can bring it aboard even though its not offered on ship.
  15. I’m not concerned about the window size, just curious . They will pick the room so I don’t have a say in what it looks like. I will just go with the flow to excuse a pun. ( I wonder if you can hear the engines from deck one) Thanks Essiesmom for your suggestion.
  16. thanks for your suggestion ship geeks. I discovered by looking at the ship layout, im category F which I think is the first level. I can see where lifeboats are located on the various levels but what do you think the plus signs mean +?
  17. In addition to getting an OV room, I chose the option where they choose the room instead of me which is much less expensive. So I assume that means getting the leftovers . Im ok with that as long as its a full window and not a porthole or obstructed view (going on Holland's Konningsdam) Has anyone booked an OV this way?
  18. Thanks for sharing your cruising experiences and thoughts XB Guy. I ended up booking a Vancouver return with HAL and will go to Glacier Bay and Tracy Arm ( same cruise as a Shmoo here?) I was hoping for a Princess cruise but there weren't any out of Vancouver and returning to Vancouver for a 7 day time slot this summer. I'm sure it will be wonderful as you say. Was just looking for some good evening entertainment - more for my daughter and dont think HAL is known for any big shows. !m sure they'll have something going on in the way of entertainment. .I also chose an ov cabin instead of a verandah so I can spend more on excursions. I originally was going to take my daughter to Vegas but I convinced her that a cruise would offer Vegas on the ship with similar entertainment - oops. Well there is a casino apparently. We did a repositioning cruise with HAL years ago coming back from Disneyland. I liked the feeling of all the wood and art on the walls. Feels like a ship!
  19. I am going to book my first Alaska cruise and would like to hear from you as to your experience on this cruise. I will be with my 23 year old daughter. Which cruise line did you take and what did you like or dislike about it? Which itinerary did you choose? I know we all have different tastes and interests but it is helpful to hear form others all the same. Imm mostly interested in seeing glaciers and exploring the ports but my daughter would like to see some good entertainment in the evenings.Do all ships offer broadway style shows?
  20. Thanks for your tips on this... I may just go for the ov room now. as my daughter won't want to be sitting on a little private balcony all day. ( but still would be nice!)
  21. If I book an ocean view, I hope they would let me know if it’s a room with a porthole or one with a large window? The ocean view rooms are much less expensive but would love to have a balcony. But as you say Shipgeeks, you don’t spend a lot of time in your room. I just like having fresh air! I’m thinking Princess cruise line now.
  22. IM considering either Holland American or Princess to Alaska but am open to other cruise lines such as Norwegian or Royal Caribbean. Im taking my 23 year old daughter so we may need a bit of action on board as well. I'll post some other questions layer about Alaska as I haven't been before.
  23. Do you know if any of the windows open on the ocean view rooms on any of the ships? Do some have bigger windows than others? Would prefer a balcony but they're not available on the cruise Im interested in thanks
