  1. We're sailing on the Millennium in April there will be 8 of us and we have already booked our tour of the Great Wall, could anyone tell me what is best to wear for this tour as we're not sure of what to expect weather wise? Also staying in Hong Kong on first night any thoughts on tours? We all usually cruise with Thompsons as they fit our budget but this is a special cruise for us all this year we're celebrating a 40th & 25th wedding anniversary and 2 x 60th birthdays. My husband and myself have sailed on Celebrity Equinox to celebrate our 40th anniversary and his 60th birthday and love the Celebrity ships.

For your Great Wall tour I suggest you wear layers. We also visited in April on a Princess cruise and I wore a long sleeved t shirt and a fleece jacket. I was able to remove the fleece as the day got warmer. I would also recommend wearing trainers for comfort and safety . As you approach the wall there are literally masses of stalls selling souvenirs. You have to be prepared to haggle, and it's great fun. Congratulations on all the special occasions your group are celebrating, you are going to have an amazing trip I'm sure. The Great Wall is a real "pinch me" experience:)

  2. Anyone done this cruise or is it a new schedule?

Have never been to Hawaii so looking for any info, weather, is it a good time to sail April 2015.

    Thanks

We did this cruise a few years ago on Royal, also in April. The weather around the islands was beautiful and the sailing back to Vancouver quite smooth but it was definitely cool. I remember it was our first balcony and we hardly used it once we left Hawaii . If it's possible, try and fly in a few days early. It's a long way to go from the UK and you may not go back again, make the most of it:) We booked some tours, Pearl Harbour was one and you really shouldn't miss it.

It was one of our nicest cruises and our first experience with a CC roll call....perhaps that's what made it so nice;)

  3. Once again Celebrity totally ignored my checked box at boarding to leave my shipboard account being charged to my VISA in US fund so my credt card could handle the exchange.

Here's what's on my VISA statement:

    CELEBRITY ECLIPSE CAD WEYBRIDGE, SU

Why is it that they NEVER get this right?

This kept happening to us too...even when we highlighted the box with fuchsia felt tip marker!! Now we go to guest relations half way through the cruise and double check.....if we are still not convinced, a day or two before the end of the cruise we pay in cash - what a palaver!

  4.

I have to echo the cuticle oil tip. My manicurist said that using it daily is the best way to make your gel nails last. I'm only on my second gel manicure and I just love them. The price isn't that much more than a regular manicure but it lasts so long it's amazing.

I have been having gel manicures for about a year now but no one has ever mentioned using cuticle oil before. Do you just massage in on twice a day? I must say I have only ever had a nail come off once in all this time and my manicurist gives a two week guarantee so it wasn't a problem - unfortunately she's not cruising with me;)

Thanks for the tip about the oil:)

  5. Excuse my ignorance but what are "shellac manicures", please? I am sure that it is something quite normal but I have never had a manicure and am considering one for our next cruise.

    Sue

Sue, not sure if "shellac" is the same thing, but I have what is called over here a "gel" manicure. Simply amazing! Lasts at least 2 weeks, doesn't chip or break. The manicurist paints on I think 3 or 4 separate layers of this colourless gel type stuff, baking it dry in this special machine (painless!) then paints on the coloured gel then top-coat. Makes your nails hard as a rock and gloriously shiny! Just the best thing for a cruise. I think the average price is around £20/25 and worth every penny.

  6. Hi there

We are grandparents travelling without any of the kids (hurrah!!;)) We are sailing on the Liberty TA and don't expect a lot of kids onboard from previous experience. We booked, with 4 friends, the character breakfast for my birthday. I think it will be a hoot. I would be mortified though, if by booking I had excluded a child from enjoying this activity. Perhaps a way of allowing parents with children to book first by a certain cut off date, and then throwing it open to all would be a good idea. As for the CL question, not sure during cocktail hour but definitely ok during the rest of the day.

  7. Well the sun is shining and no sign of rioters so it looks like a good day here in London;)

Mike it was nice to read all about the two of you, especially as it was you who started this thread and invited us over....I don't post that often but do try and keep up....We are Sue and Steve from London and this is our 8th TA, we love them. When we leave the ship in Fort Lauderdale we are jumping on the Eclipse for a week around the Caribbean and then staying for a week with our friends Gladys and Enid (also on this cruise) for a week before flying home. We are also flying in the day of the cruise, along with Corinne and John.

Corinne, we cruised with Loie and Peter to Hawaii many years ago...it was our first time on a roll call and we had a ball. I laughed when I read your reply to Karen about her weight loss and achieving goal....I am as far away from that as you:D

Our youngest son and DIL are getting a puppy today, a golden colour cocker spaniel. Steve and I are going to the kennels to bring him home...they have 3 kids under 6 and 2 cats....life is never boring in that house...Noah, the 3 year old, told me he was getting a sparkly yellow doggie but he really wanted a green on - no answer to that;)

  8. Oh, big news from the Weight Watchers front. Today I was .2 lb BELOW my goal weight!! Whoo Hooooo!! Mind you now, I am not by any means "skinny," but I feel sooooooooo much better and at least don't mind how I look in my clothes. I'd like to drop a few more lbs before we leave for vacation so I have a little cushion....;) Now the trick will be to keep it off:o

Well done Karen, what an achievement:)

  9. Watching the news on tv and it's scary stuff....yesterday afternoon I went into our nearest shopping centre (Sherry, it was Ilford) Happily buzzing about in the mall, came out into the main road and there were police cars everywhere and tons of police "questioning" a large group of lads....all the shop-owners were standing in their doorways and some shops were closed/closing. I went into a shoe-shop and the assistant told me they were shutting as the police had warned them of impending trouble and advised me to go straight home....I didn't need telling twice....my sons that live in NW London (we are NE) heard of similar problems. George I might join you in your little cottage:(:(

  10. Peter, really sorry to hear your news....what a blow. I like to think that things happen for a reason, hopefully there is something MUCH better waiting in the wings, fingers crossed for you.

Corinne, well done at WW...I totally agree, a cuddle from the grandkids is worth much more than another lost pound. You asked if our cabin on Eclipse was larger than the norm....I can only compare it with our AQ cabin (1605 - HUGE balcony)...the inside cabin seemed to be laid out better and felt more spacious, it was only a fleeting visit on our cabin crawl but we both agreed we would be happy to stay in it....I'll let you know when we get back:)

    Sue

  11. Karen I read on our thread that has now disappeared that you were thinking of booking an inside cabin on the Eclipse. We have done the same for this 7 nighter we booked after the LOS. We have booked cabin 3172...we saw it on our Equinox cabin crawl and thought it look great, very spacious and well laid out and the couple occupying it just loved it...check out the deck plan and see what you think...we are really looking forward to it (and I'm usually a balcony girl by choice;))

Sherry, we can just fit in with your plans, we're retired:D:D

    Happy birthday Hillary:)

  12. Ken, you should be designated "A National Treasure" by the state of Florida! The time and trouble you go to help people on these boards is just remarkable. Thank you so much and enjoy your upcoming transatlantic cruise and if you are coming to the Uk and we can help at all, my email is my screen name @hotmail.com :)
