  1. Sorry, one more question...

Do ships with an ice rink always have ice shows as part of their nightly entertainment? Well, not every night but some? I thought the ice rink was just for the passengers but someone said something that made me think there are shows?

I'd guess the Jewel would still have good shows even if they are aren't ice shows, right?

  2. I would take the beautiful Jewel and save $400.

I think I'm leaning toward that option. The posters who have described many windows and outdoor eating area is a big plus! I took a cruise on The Carnival Imagination (I think) and there was an out area outside of the buffet area. I loved having my meals out there and haven't seen that set up on a ship since.

I don't tan and generally don't hang out at the pool so that's neither a positive or a negative.

  3. hi, I have sailed on Adventure on a TA from San Juan, there is no roof on the solarium although there are parts that are undercover (but not heated), we found that it was fine for us as there was really nice weather until almost the end of the cruise, I think it was only the last two days it got colder. Also, we recently did a b2b on Jewel around the southern Caribbean, This was a fantastic ship for it as it is so port intensive, there was lots to see and do, was great eating in the open air part of the Windjammer and nice not to have to switch cabins, to the OP, be aware that if you do a side by side cruise check the itinerary, I looked at this before booking and I am fairly sure that if you do go on both ships they do alternate itineries so you might be doing the same ports both weeks.

Thanks for reminding me. I was supposed to check that last night and forgot. Definitely want to do alternating ports. All 9 (I believe) will be new to me! So exciting!

  4. Bob is right, RCI doesn't do this anymore, sorry.

Yes, a side to side would be fun, definitely something to consider. However, a true B2B on the same ship in the same cabin is absolutely phenomenal. Why don't you price out each week on a S2S and a hotel room in between, and report back to us here? I'd be interested in knowing the price. :)

    .

I'll do that a bit later but right now, doing a b2b on Jewel instead of Adventure would be $432 less. I figure a s2s would knock off approx $200 of that savings and a hotel and meals would eat the rest of the savings...lol. And that's if I'm able to get a hotel room for 1 night. I've read that many hotels in PR require a two night stay.

I'll price it out and see. A day in between will give me a chance to explore San Juan although I could also do that on changeover day on a B2B.

    decisions, decisions.

  5. I have been on both the Adventure and the Jewel. Totally different class ships. The Jewel has an atrium and lots of glass you can see the ocean from all over the ship. The Adventure has the promenade. Love them both. Instead of a back to back, how about doing a side by side. Take the Jewel the first week get off stay in a hotel one night and then take the Adventure. You will get to have the best of both worlds.

Now that's an idea. I'll check into that also.:)

  6. I'm currently booked on the Feb 1, 2015 Adventure of the Seas cruise out of Puerto Rico. I got, what I feel, is a good deal for being a solo traveler. I want to book the Feb 8th cruise also to make it a b2b but that cruise is a little bit more than I want to swing.

I just noticed that the Jewel also leaves from Puerto Rico and does the same ports on both legs and is slightly cheaper. On both legs, I can save about $400 going with the Jewel as opposed to the Adventure.

I've checked the deck plans, and I think the only noticeable difference is the skating rink.

As for RC, I've only traveled on the Majesty so any bells and whistles will be new to me. So far in all my cruise travels, I'm a port, price, and date selector...meaning, I've never picked a ship based on amenities, newness, size, etc. But with that said, if I'm going to be on a ship for 14 days, I want to have the greatest experience possible.

So, with all of this, can someone offer any advice on if I should stay with Adventure or move to the Jewel? Does Adventure offer $400 more of an experience than the Jewel? I notice they are in two different classes, but what does that mean?

    Thanks for the help.

  7. Ok so I recieved a free cabin promo and have booked with a friend for the Victory in June. There is a strong possibility that I will not be able to go. I am not sure what to do in this case. If I cancel I would not be losing that much, but if my friend was to show up on her own, what would happen? Since I am the one who got the offer would she have to pay for the cabin? I need to make a decision soon.:(

are you already in the penalty phase for cancellation? If not, you might be able to just reschedule. I'd call ASAP because if your date hasn't come it's probably approaching soon.

  8. How do you determine who is late and who is just caught in the huge crowds of people trying to get to their station?

If the announcement is that the drill starts at 4 pm sharp, then it's easier to tell who is late although I would bet people would still be late because of the crowds all trying to get somewhere at the same time. On the ship, tho, they say when you hear the alarm proceed to your muster station? Of course everyone should proceed to their station in an orderly and safe manner but who actually is late unless they say "get there in 10 minutes".

I've been to a few drills and it seems there's always a steady stream of people pouring in. I can't say I've noticed people running up well after the majority of the crowd arrived appearing to be drastically late.
  9. I got the same thing yesterday and was happily filling it out

until it got all insistent that my Math had to add up!

    So I bailed out. :)

When a survey get too complicated for my tiny brain, I bail.

    Are you reading this, Carnival?

It seemed to want specific figures re. my spending habits ashore and on board.

Like I keep records on that stuff?

When it started to get all IRS on me...I bailed out.

    See ya!

    .

Same thing I did. It was asking for too much.

  10. I got the survey in my email yesterday and completed it yesterday. My "recent" cruise was in May 2013. I'm booked for my next one in September. The survey was long and rather annoying, asking the same questions over and over, mainly about things that I purchased whilst on my recent cruise. I would not have done the survey if I would've known it was going to be so long and ask such stupid questions. I figured it was going to be about the food, entertainment and other more important things, rather than what I bought and how much I spent on the ship and in the ports. It's definitely not a virus but I wouldn't have completed it had I known what it was about beforehand.

I got one too. My most recent cruise was February 2014. After answering a lot of tedious questions about how much I spent and where I noticed I was only 40% done. I just closed it out and quit.

  11. So do you guys book them before you would ask your employer? Because I'm at the point now that I will probably not go in Jan 2015 now. We're now looking at 2016. I can not possibly ask my employer. So would you book and then ask? What then if you book and then you can't go? Early saver is able to be cancelled correct? You just lose the deposit right? It's $50 or something like that?

If I'm booking far in advance, I can book without asking my employer first. There's sort of a "formula" that decides how leave is approved but it's not that difficult for me. It essentially goes by seniority so as long as I'm not booking over Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's I know I can get the time off. If I wanted any of the major holidays, I would probably book a refundable rate code or wait until I knew my approval was guaranteed.

Even for trips not far in advance, I can check our staffing system to see if anyone else is already approved for leave. If not, I can go on and book without asking for approval first. Our contract states my employer must let at least two people off for annual leave per day if it's requested. If no has requested it yet, I know I'll get it. If there's 2 requests already in, I know it isn't safe to book.

I feel very grateful for the system we have in place. I know many others aren't as lucky with getting leave approvals.

  12. On board now. Docked in Puerto Rico. We were witnesses to the sad incident along with everyone on our port side of the ship at least aft of the hump. The port worker had just untied the rope and was getting back in his ship btwn our ship and celebrity when Indy turned on its thrusters. I even said why would we put our thrusters on before they left. The boat was essentially trapped btwn the ships and flipped over. Our side of the ship was shocked and saddened. Prayers to the friends and families of the victims!!!

I don't know a lot about ships and how they work but are the thrusters something that's normally turned on once the workers are a certain distance from the ship?

  13. I really had a great person on the phone this morning help me out. I would like to submit her name and let someone know how great she was. What is the best way to do that? I really want someone preferably a direct manager to know.

if you know the persons name or extension, I'd call back and ask her who she reports to. Just tell her you thought she did an excellent job and would like to relay it her supervisor. She'll be happy to give you the name and number of exactly the right person.

  14. I'm not sure what you mean by passed final payment. I know that if I try to cancel online it shows a penalty of $1000. We are on deck 8 currently if that makes a difference. I'll call today. The worst they can tell me is no.

If it's showing a penalty then you are probably past final payment (the date in which the cruise must be paid).

Did you book an early saver rate?

  15. There's many people who always advise "don't pay off your cruise early, it's better to keep your money"

Now, Carnival offers a way for people to "keep their money" by offering lower deposits and now people want to bash and basically say "if your can't give Carnival $250 per person, you can't afford to cruise"

How does that even make sense. Just because a $400 deposit is a "hardship" doesn't mean a person can't afford to cruise.

A $50 allows people to book earlier than they would have been able to or more often. That has nothing to do with ability to afford the cruise in the long run.

As a community, we should be supportive of one another and happy that people have booked.

I rather have my money in my account and not in Carnival's so if it were up I'd always choose the lower deposit, as long as the total price isn't effected.

Let's stop being negative on EVERYTHING!

  16. OP update: Called back and now the voicemail said they are out today, and to call another extension. Called and spoke to the covering PVP who quoted me the "dreaming of vacation sale" rate which is $370 more. It is not worth it, as I am only moving up one floor. Couldn't get the "kids sail free" rate, as it is for new bookings only. That would have only been about $90 more, and I might have done it. But the confusing part is that he said we would lose the $200 deposit ($50 pp)?. I asked if that was true even with an upgrade and us paying more, and he said yes-we lose the deposit for ANY change to the booking. Has this happened to others? Doesn't seem right.......

I was TOLD that once but it turned out not to be true. I was trying to upgrade to a balcony from an ocean view. My PVP wasn't in so I just spoke with someone after dialing the 800 number. I didn't upgrade because I was told it'd be a cancellation which would cost me most of the money paid. My PVP called me back on Monday and I told him what happened and he informed me that wasn't true. He completed my upgrade to the balcony and I only owed an additional $130. It was a balcony guarantee. I don't think they allow guarantee upgrades anymore with early saver but I could be wrong.

  17. I know before with the Future Cruise Certificates you only had to pay $100 to purchase one. Now when you book a cruise on the cruise...Do you:

    1. have to book a specific cruise or just one in the future?

Not quite sure, but I'm sure someone else will answer.

    2. have to pay full deposit?

Yes, the full deposit is due unless there is some sort of half price deposit special going on.

    3. have to book 2 people at the time or can you book just one and pay half on deposit?

Now on Carnival, even solos pay double the deposit. I wanted to book the Pride repositioning cruise (15 days) as a solo and my deposit would have been $800! I had to pass.
