Grumpy Wombat,
We did this trip last July on the Sojourn. You are in for a wonderful trip. We took the train in Flam and it was just beautiful. The crew does a wonderful job and we can't wait to be back.
We also have observed medics from the ship. Hope all is well. Enjoy your trip!!

TravelCat2,
Ice bar experience yet?

I agree with frantic36. We were on Komodo Island in Feb. It is a rough track to see the dragons and you need to pay attention to the guides. We had two security guides carrying long sticks and a botanist. It was very hot one person fainted. Fortunately, our ship's dr was in his group and got him back to the ship. No bright colors, no open wounds - no kidding!!! They are large and very fast. I did not know they could climb trees!!! Exciting!

TravelCat2,
Yes, I did this excursion in Helsinki. Hot outside like you are having so sort of a shock when we were ushered into a locker room to put on snowmobile type outfits with large boots and gloves. Very cold (zero?) inside the bar. Bar was ice, tables were ice, shot glasses were ice (cranberry vodka for me). Slippery but beautiful. There were also igloos inside and I went on a ride with the sled dogs also. Lots of fun.
I did not go on crabbing (in Honningsvag, I think). Friends said first onto the Zodiac boats, to the crab pots and then to the beach to cook and eat them. Can't get much fresher than that. Enjoy!

TravelCat2,
We did a similar cruise last July on SB. I am grateful for your daily posts and reminds me of our wonderful trip. The small ports were wonderful (went above Arctic Circle to Honningsvag -not sure of spelling).
The people who went crabbing loved it and I did the ice bar. Be prepared to be dressed as the Michelin Man!

We have always arrived two to three days early in London to see the sights and have used SilverFleet transfers to Southampton on both of our cruises. Great service.

I echo the above comments about how refreshing sarahwithanh's posts are. I cannot cruise right now due to family pet's health but I can relate to all of sarah's experiences onboard. Please keep posting!

It is not difficult to get a passport and is so much easier than carrying all other documents. I like that a passport shows where we have been. Just renew the passport and then you can go anywhere at any time (except those countries that require visas) without the worry. Have a wonderful cruise.

I just finished watching the Viking video of the Star. Looks like a very nice ship with large public spaces (928 passengers), nice suites and restaurants. We would need to wait for her debut and learn about ambiance, crew, food, included items, etc. Only time will tell.

Pop-I, I agree with you. I have had to exit elevators because of strong perfume. Easy does it on the perfume!

Mr. Rumor
So glad you are cruising again! I always look forward to your reports. Thank you.

Yes, I use my iPod Touch as a small nightlight but we always take a battery candle. Works great in the bathroom as a nightlight and also nice in the evening for ambiance.

This is why we always book our own hotel and transportation to the ship. I enjoy researching the hotels and often find a small boutique hotel that it is charming.
Thank you valentine823 for your updates!!

Thank you, Travelcat 2,
All pet lovers know what this is like.

Thank you for taking us along. We had to cancel our August cruise as our wonderful dog became very ill on recent Sydney to Singapore cruise. Staying home for now.

We had an issue in July on our Baltic cruise on Sojourn. We expressed concern on the ship and again on the online survey when we returned. We received the "generic letter" and I did call the number given in the letter and left a message. One day later I received a call from someone from the corporate office. They expressed their understanding of my issue (most will guess what this was). Although it has not been resolved, the person I spoke with did understand and I felt I was at least listened to.

Captain Green was our captain on our Feb. Sydney to Singapore cruise on the Voyager. He was delightful. He interacted with passengers all of the time and we had a great bridge tour with him. Very outgoing yet totally professional.

Fred arbuthnot,
I would then make reservations. Good luck!
-
Fred arbuthnot,
You might check to see how many ships are in port that day. We had no other ships and just walked off the ship and onto the train without a planned excursion. You may have already done this on the roll call.

Our Aug. 23 Venice to Istanbul also has the port changes. Notified by TA last week. Since we have not paid in full, we will probably cancel.

In January, we stayed at the Harbour Rocks Hotel. Small boutique hotel on The Rocks. Very convenient and close to opera house and the bridge. We enjoyed it very much.

Another vote for Silverfleet. Have used Tony two times and he is professional and very reliable.

I forgot to mention that this was Stockholm to Copenhagen up to North Cape (21 days). Good weather but cool as you would expect the farther north we sailed.

Hi, we were on the Sojourn this past August. On August 9th we had Rock the Boat and it was daylight at 11 p.m. What fun! Don't remember Theatre under the Stars. Maybe the best cruise we have ever taken!
