  1. I'm a day late, but looking forward to your cruise! The Island and Coral are such great ships. How do you like the newly configured set up on CP?

Congratulations on your 75th cruise! You'll be at a hundred before you know it! :) We'll be getting on the Ocean when you get off in Dover on June 6. Too bad you're not continuing, but I think I saw you're heading out from Southampton shortly afterward. Do you know who the Ocean Princess CD will be?

    Thanks for taking us along!

  2. I love this idea! We are celebrating our 20th as well in a couple of weeks on the Grand. I am bringing these for sure :)

They also make great nightlights in the bathroom. We put one in there and turn it on before going to bed. Those middle of the night bathrooms runs are a lot more forgiving if you don't have to turn on a bright light! :o They usually last about 12-14 nights. :)

  3. I use clinique make up and at the counter in Macy's they will give you some empty little containers. You can also buy tiny containers in Bed Bath and Beyond to decant into.

If you feel you need bugspray, buy the individual packets and only take a few. It's doubtful you'll have daily swarms, unless you're going to the Amazon River!

Only you know what you really need for your comfort and enjoyment, so you'll have to decide what that is. I wouldn't try to conform to others standards of what is important. I have a couple of things that I take on every trip long or short that other people might roll their eyes at, but they are important to me. (Portable DVD player and videos is one.... can't sleep without it! I know... weird! ) But I don't take shoes for every occasion, so I make up for the space there!;)

  4. Take along a bunch of the flameless candles! They're battery powered, so no fire safety issues. Buy the ones that flicker like real candle light. Women usually think they look better by candlelight! ;) They're tiny and you'll be able to hide them easily in your suitcase. She'll be impressed that you had forethought to make everything special! Happy Anniversary!:)

  5. I have seen a couple of posts about taking power strips for their cabins. I was watching tv last week and saw a segment talking about plugin that had three electrical outlets and two ups outlets. I missed where to buy. Anyone have any ideas?

Belkin makes good products. They can be found on Amazon, but probably many other places. We use this one.

The prongs can be rotated to have the strip be horizontal (either direction) or vertical.

  6. island time or no island time. common courtesy comes into play. a business wants my money they respond. don't respond don't get my money. simple as that. I don't need a golf cart. plenty of other things to do. I have seen several claims of others having issues with getting a refund and can not get a hold of him. oh well off to a different adventure.

Voice of experience speaking..... Explore other options! :) We reserved a cart, got a broken down jeep. What would have taken hours to explore in a golf cart, took an hour in a jeep. The lighthouse is about the only thing to see besides the beach.

  7. Shoes equal weight in my luggage when flying to port so this is always a problem but I try to do one pair of flip flops for the pool, sneakers, teva walking sandals, another nuetral color flat sandal and a neutral sandal with heels for formal nights. But then I end up throwing in one more flip flop and another dress shoe and a ballet flat if I have extra weight lol.

I found some great sneakers that weigh less than 6oz!!!

They are BZEE's by naturalizer and come in many styles and colors, all with low weight.

  8. I always carry a copy of any paperwork to verify OBC or gifts added to my account in case there is a mix up. Military, shareholder and gift emails are a just a few sheets of paper, but can quickly resolve questions if something isn't right on the account once we board. I learned that "back up plan" from some of the great advice accumulated on this board! :)

  9. Similar problem going to the Norwegian Fjords and Arctic Circle. I plan to take one pair of flat dressy-ish dinner shoes, and several pairs of rubber soled walking shoes.... one of which is water resistant. I toyed with the idea of taking ankle boots for warmth and comfort, but just can't wrap my mind around wearing boots in the summer.

  10. I have one at our beach condo for things that guests might need. Extra sunscreen, boca clips, little container of baby powder to take to the beach to get sand off your feet, small squirt bottle of vinegar for jelly fish stings, etc. It's a great way to have everything visible and in a small space. :)

  11. You can bring on as many as you want, however you'll be charged the corkage fee on those beyond the one per person allowed. They will stamp the bottles you pay for with a sea witch symbol and those you are able to take to the dining room without additional charges. For the "one free" bottle per person you are allowed, it won't be stamped. If you take an unstamped bottle to the dining room, you are subject to a $15 corkage fee. It is the dining room staff that determines how diligent they are about charging.

If you plan to get off the ship for a Total Wine run at the turn around, you may have to have separate boarding passes to show that you have booked as two distinct cruises. I'm not sure about that.

  12. Don't put it in the overhead bin of the plane. People have no respect for softer items up there and will destroy your hat with their overstuffed carry on. :( Saw it happen to some man's hat. He was not happy when he retrieved the broken bits of straw.

  13. We had trouble on the Coral, but not on the Island.... Odd. The four hooks are flat, metal and squared off. We normally keep it on the outside of the bathroom door in the dressing area. I think I just didn't adjust them carefully on the Coral.

We only use a half length of the shoe organizer since it's just two of us. I bought some strong magnet hooks that I'm going to try on our upcoming cruise. The magnets can be placed anywhere on the wall. Just don't let the magnet contact your key card or it will disable it!

  14. check out http://***************/pack_small.htm for some ideas. .....OK, that must not be allowed! Google "cruise packing" and you'll come up with a bunch of websites. I agree to take less than you think you'll need.

They use more sodium than you probably do at home, also alcohol can cause you to retain fluids. Be careful not to take anything that's too tight. :o

  15. If you think it might be your only time in Alaska, I suggest a southbound from Whittier/Seward to Vancouver. Fly into Anchorage a day ahead, rent a car and drive down the Seward highway along Turnigan Arm. It's really a beautiful drive and gives you a little opportunity to see the land side. If you had more time, a trip to Denali would be the highlight.

The 7 day SB is a great cruise... so beautiful! We did it on the Coral which is my favorite size ship.

Take an extra day in Vancouver and go over to Granville Island for great restaurants, farmers market, art studios, etc.! We rented bikes and rode around Stanley park, then took them over on the aqua taxi for lunch. We found so many goodies at the market that we had a picnic on our hotel balcony for dinner. We stayed at a hotel overlooking the marina, so we watched float planes coming and going all evening.

It was a fabulous trip and although we did the 4 day cruisetour plus the 7 day cruise plus a few days in Anchorage and Vancouver, DH only took about 8 work days off. :) Good luck with your decision!

  16. We did the NY-NY NE/Canada cruise in Oct 2013. Our car service trip from LGA took about 15-20 minutes. I don't remember whether it was Carmel Car Service or Arecibo Car Service. We stayed at the Marriott in Brooklyn which was a beautiful hotel and they upgraded us to a wonderful room with a balcony. The hotel was convenient to restaurants and a wine shop just around the corner. We used the hotel limo service to Red Hook Terminal the morning of the cruise. It took about 10 minutes from the hotel.

  17. Last year we were on the Island Princess over St Patrick's day. I noticed a lot of green "mardi gras" type beads and some people were wearing green. There were 4 leaf clover decals on doors and mail slots.

It seems to me that St Patty's Day is more of an American drinking holiday, celebrated more rambunctiously than other countries (except for Ireland, maybe). At any rate, have a great cruise!!!
