  1. the Doubletree is also very walkable to the light rail station. The Coast Gateway hotel is also directly across from airport and less than one block to light rail. These should also be considered. The Sleep Inn seems nice but its very isolated with only an IHOP in walking distance. No airport hotel is filled with amenities and generally good for short stays or pre cruise but the general area is pretty devoid of restaraunts and atmosphere.

  2. 4 people with luggage will always be a challenge though many cabs are full size Fords so it may work. Which hotel? many have shuttles arranged for cruise season however they charge pp. You may look at

    shuttleexpress.com

as they do shuttles from many downtown hotels. You can call the hotel but arranging a cab would not be hard. A shuttle from the pier is always available from the dock. I wouldn't book thru Princess just use Seattle Express or shuttle express.

  3. shuttle express has multiple divisions and while the posting is about Shuttle Express its about their towncar service not the shared ride. Shuttle Express took over the airporter service yrs ago. Hotels such as the Fairmont, Crown Plaza, Westin, Sheraton and Rennaissance are on a scheduled delivery and are very inexipensive. The vans load up at pier 91 and will take you to Seatac for a flat rate. Downtown to the piers is normally cheaper by cab as most shuttles charge a per person rate. Look at

    shuttleexpress.com

and you can see the various services they offer. There is a new competitor in town that just started and that is

    speedishuttle.com

I see they advertise a low rate from either pier to seatac as well.

  4. Just a heads up that this sunday is a major Pride Parade that ends at the space needle and begins at 4th and Union. This will greatly affect traffic to Pier 91. If your cruising pay for a shuttle as you don't want to be stuck in a cab in traffic. If coming from the airport there will not be an issue as you can take 99 and avoid downtown. Same with departing. It will affect people staying downtown and trying to get to the pier.

  5. the oatmeal is actually pretty good and I find the prices reasonalbe. There isn't a bunch walkable near the station so I'd just buy food on the train. Since your not supposed to bring meats into the US from Canada its always iffy to bring 'outside' food thru immigration.

  6. On sunday 6-28 is a major parade in Seattle that will run the length of 4th ave and end at the Space Needle. If going to Pier 91 it will impact travel unless you take hwy 99 or go to the waterfront down Columbia or James St. Its the Pride Parade and it happens every yr. Won't impact going to the airport from pier but will greatly complicate going. Good time to use a flat rate taxi or shuttle as you don't want to be stuck in a taxi with the meter going. Just a friendly heads up.

  7. just so you know, the Westin would also be my first choice due to location.

To compare, the Westin is on the Dowtown shuttle route offered by Shuttleexpress.com

Its about $18 one way to the Westin from Seatac. A cab to pier 91 is probably about $15 to give you a cost comparison. There are many cruisers at the Westin and the chances of you finding someone to share a cab I'd think would be really high. I know the cruises normally charge about $25 to the airport which for a single is reasonable however if you can share a cab it would be about the same price.

  8. I would not want to give others the impression that taking light rail and 'walking' to Pier 66 is a piece of cake. Yes its doable like talking a city bus to Pier 91, but is it practical for most people? The answer is no. Its a hike to either place. I guess its worth it to save $10, but its supposed to be a vacation. To each his own but its not worth the hassle vs the cost savings.

  9. -you always assume some risk in doing this. In Vancouver immigration can take up to one hr but they are usually really efficient. From airport to Canada Place is only about 30 minutes so if your on time I'd think you'd be fine. Me personally I'd be too worried so for my sanity I'd want to be there the day before.

  10. I'm sorry you had that experience. Let me explain: Eastside for hire isn't a towncar type company. Making a 'reservation' doesn't mean they have someone monitoring your flight and waiting patiently. Quite frankly why would you 'reserve' a taxi when you don't know what time the plane is arriving or how fast your bags come down? They work just fine if your at a hotel and want to go to the port at a specific time. Just call them when you have your bags. Its a good option to a shuttle or a taxi or a towncar. Normally they save you money.

Speedishuttle started in here just this month though apparently they are from Hawaii. I see their vans which are brand new Black Mercedes Sprinter vans. They are so new there is no 'track record' for them.

  11. I just did a few trips to SF in the past few wks. Any hotel at Fishermans Wharf will do just fine and you can take a really short taxi ride to the pier. Its really a very neat part of the city to stay.

Re: Uber as they started in SF I used them multiple times in SF and have to admit it was a good experience. I can tell you that in SF they have a product called Uber Pool which is $15 for one or two people to SF to or from SFO making this very attractive vs a cab $50 or a shuttle at about $17 pp. The Uber pool can allow another person to join you but if they don't find a 'match' then the ride is yours alone. I did sign up for the first ride free so it was a freebee. The new port in sf is gorgeous and right on the Embarcadero close to Fishermans Wharf and Pier 39. Look on hotwire or priceline and select FW as the zone.
