  1. Hi

We will be on Maui March 6 and due to tender delays do not think that we can manage whale watching and Molokini snorkelling so need to decide which one is better

We snorkelled at Klein Bonaire in April and it was like snorkelling in an aquarium , saw several turtles and loads of fish so was wondering if Molokini is worth the special trip or not , have read that it is quite dirty with rubbish floating on surface of water and very over used but if it recommended I would not like to miss out , also I know that we will miss the Pacific Whale foundation boat to Molokini so does anybody know of another good company that go to Molokini a bit later , say after 9am ?

On the other hand I really want to do a whale watch on a small boat too but would not have time to do both tours

Any help please would be much appreciated , thanks

  2. Agree, thanks for the info. Dying to go to MP and looking at S America cruises for 2016, so starting my research now.

    Talking about research :

Plenty of hotels on cheap hotel websites , Llamapath tours do sacred valley tours $20 8.30 - 6 pm , cusco city tour 2 - 6 pm $15 , Taxis from airport to cusco hotels $9 or even less with shared transport and Viator , and you can book the train yourself with perurail , choice of expedition , vistadome or the luxury Hiram Bingham train (part of the orient express group I beleive)

Seems totally doable on our own at a fraction of the cost of tours groups and you can book your own hotels too

  3. Thanks Banditoo/Betty

Much appreciated , wow you are well travelled , great sharing site too

Where did you get the boxed lunch for the MP trip please ? , I have read that the food at the site is expensive and dont really want the buffet at the Sanctuary as heard it is very busy (unless anybody really recommends it )

  4. Hi

We have booked a cruise and want to do Cuzco , sacred valley and Macchu Picchu on our own without using any tour companies , eg book our own flights Santiago to Cuzco , book own hotels , tours , train to Macchu Picchu etc , any recommendations for anything or any info from anybody that had done this themselves , all info appreciated , thank you

Us too , booked Hawaii for next February so now looking at 2016 for either Panama Canal or South America with Princess then MP on our own to cut costs as the cruisetour is expensive with Princess.

We would have to look to go from Santiago as that is where the cruise starts then arrange a tour from Cuzco for 5 days or so , so much to research ...........

  6. Athens has an excellent Metro (subway) system that is fast and cheap. In fact, there is even a train/subway from Pireaus to Athens which we use on most of our visits. From the Acropolis area it is only a few minute walk to get into the Plaka...and if you stroll through the Plaka district (with a decent street map) you can soon find yourself at Syntagma Square. The charm (if you want to call it that) of the Plaka district can only be discovered by walking and the only way to get up to the Arcropolis is on foot (it is quite a hike so one needs to be mobile).

    Hi

We only have 5 hours in Athens so am doing my homework , I have found the HOHO that just drops off for the Acropolis , blue route for 9 euros( we havent got time for the city tour) , we then want to walk from the Acropolis to Syntagma Square through Plaka , how will we know which way to walk ? , where can we get a good street map as mentioned ? We need to know as much as possible beforehand to save time dithering and avoid going the wrong ways etc , any help much appreciated

  7. Good news...

Next days start a new express bus line from cruise terminals to Acropolis Museum-Acropolis hill.

The number of the bus is X80 and will stop in all terminals (will start from terminal B). The first bus will depart at 7:00 o clock and if there are many cruise passengers will be a backup bus for extra routes.

Tickets price: only full day tickets (4 euro per person - valid for 24 hours for all buses, metro etc) or 3 days tickets (20 euro valid for 72 hours)

map with stops close the terminals:

    Thank you very much Anapli

That sounds just what we want , how do you know about this and is there a timetable somewhere of the times please ? Much appreciated

  8. Hi

How far is it from the port to Athens please , we only have 5 hours in port and would like to see the acropolis and the plaka district , will we have time ? We don't want to take a ships excursion so what would be the best way on our own , no taxis either

  9. Hi Michael & Anthony , hope you enjoyed the cruise , we didn't see much of you after the first day , we loved it although it passed much too quickly .

As said in an earlier post the cruise lines don't introduce anything where they are going to lose money although Costa only charge $26-27 , 19.50 euros a day so I feel that we get our monies worth with them so will take out their drinks package in October but will not be doing it again with Princess due to the cost.

  10. Hi fellow cruisers

We have just returned from the Emerald Princess and took the AI drinks package , we consider ourselves moderate to " liking a drink a lot " kinda people but still found it hard to get our monies worth on the package , we found ourselves drinking for the sake of it so as to get our monies worth . If your cruise is port intensive you would only have the evenings to take advantage of the package , we did also have coffees /teas that we would not normally of had and only still just broke even so unless you really enjoy a drink I would advise to buy as you go , but this is just my opinion so feel free to buy it if you want (don't want any backlash here from the people that feel they got a good deal but are free to express their thoughts too)

  11. I think I will just eat a HUGE breakfast that day and then maybe get a light snack when we get back on board before having a later dinner , I think that should do it , the tour is a private one not a Princess one so there is no snack or meal provided but I am sure I will survive , and no I have never taken any food off the ships before but wondered about the packed lunches but it seems that they would not be provided according to some of the posts here

  12. Thanks for all your replies but I knowyou cannot take food off the ship , but honestly that is NOT the question I asked !!

It is just that we are on an all day tour in Dominica being picked up in the morning and doing 3 different beauty spots so doubt there will be any shops nearby and the tour does not provide lunch so was just wondering if anybody had ever had a packed lunch

  13. Thank you all for your replies , we are resident in France and have to pay an annual fee of 41 euros for having the share account in our French bank so maybe a good time to sell and buy through our UK bank instead
