  1. I wasn't really sure where to ask this, so forgive me if it's in the wrong place...

We're cruising on the Sunshine in April and it's a surprise for my husband's 40th birthday. I've been trying to come up with a cool way to give it to him for his birthday, which is only 10 days before we actually sail. I didn't want to do a scavenger hunt, or I didn't want to just tell him, so I came up with a fun way to break the news.

I'm going to get 5 smallish boxes and on the outside lid put the letters that spell FORTY on each one of them. Inside, will be clues that start with the letter that is on the box. For example, the first box "F" will have clues inside that represent fun, family (because we're all going), etc. The "R" box will have clues that represent rest, relax, rays (as in sun...I'll put a sunscreen in there). The "T" will be travel with his passport inside and the "Y" will say inside "YOU ARE GOING ON A CRUISE!".

I'm stumped on the "O" though. And I'd love some other ideas for all the other letters. I don't want to give it away in the first box so nothing that's completely obvious we're cruising.

Anyone have any other cool ideas for words or knick knacks for the inside of the boxes?

  2. Those over 16 sometimes need a picture ID to get back into port.

We got our DDs State issued IDs thru the Dept of Motor Vehicles before they had their drivers licenses.

SadieN...and this non-driver photo ID issued by the state was accepted? Just trying to figure out what I need to get for my daughter who will be just 16 but no drivers license yet.

  3. Not sure what you consider "sky high" prices...

A quick look on AA.com and Google Flights right now shows flights with pricing in the $319-$388 range per person from airports in the vicinity (FLL, MIA, PBI) to CMH.

that seems pretty good to me for coming home at the end of a Holiday time. What price are you expecting?

That's not bad at all for that time of year! I'd be happy paying that :)

  4. What are some unusual things that people should not forget to bring on their cruise?

Not your typical..Don't forget your toothbrush, rain coat, sneakers, etc. kinds of things, but things like portable fans or your own large mug (Tervis).

I'm trying to compile a list of odd things to not forget :) Thanks!

  5. For what it's worth...we live in NH and usually fly out of Manchester NH or Boston. We are cruising the week after you (because that's NH vacation) and I just booked a one way with Southwest out of Hartford for $103 pp. my point being, check other airports to see if you can get a better rate. I would have never thought to even fly out of Hartford but it was a good $100 cheaper pp for the one way. I haven't booked my return yet because you can book that far out with Southwest yet, but if they don't have a good price I can still fly jet blue home for about $160 pp. so, we would be paying under $300 pp. Boston would have been about $500 pp.

  6. Check on JB today. There is a sale. Just booked April for 74.00 down and 89.00 back, bags included. :D

That's awesome! I just checked my dates/airports and I can't get that fare :( They have a decent option that I'll most likely choose if Southwest can't give me a good price once they release late April dates. Thanks for the head-up!

  7. Thanks for the advice and shared experience everyone! I ended up seeing a great deal ($103 pp) for one way on Southwest, with perfect flight times, out of Hartford CT instead of Boston. So I scooped it up and I'll wait to see what they have for the return flight when they are released. If Southwest doesn't have anything that works for us then I've already looked and can see that a couple other airlines have flights that work and are priced reasonably good.

  8. Keep watching SW. Anytime you see a fare you like buy it. Rates for round trips on SW are never cheaper than booking 2 one ways. So if you see something good get it and book the return after they open the new booking window. I always book 1 ways on SW instead of rt's. Then if one fare goes down you can rebook at the lower fare and use the credit when you book the return leg!

Thank you! This is exactly the kind of first hand experience I was looking for:)

  9. I realize that nobody can tell me what's going to happen in the future. I was simply wondering if anyone had any experience in such a situation.

It doesn't matter anyway now...prices for the one way flight went way up since the last time I checked them. I'm going to wait until southwest releases dates and then see what airline offers the best deal. I just like southwest because they are so easy (no baggage fees, easy check in, etc.).

  10. We're cruising on April 23, 2017 and we want to fly down the day before. I'm keeping my eye on airfare but I'm really waiting for Southwest to release their booking availability for the end of April. I can currently book my flight there, one way, but my return on the 28th isn't available yet.

Do you think I should book my flight down right now (it's pretty cheap) or do you think it will be cheaper to just wait and book it round trip when they release the April 28th date? I worry if I wait then the price will go up? Anyone have any advice or experience? Thank you!

  11. I've told my husband that we're going out of town, but haven't told him where. He'll find out when we get to the port...

I wish I could do that, but logistically it would be a nightmare for us. We have to fly from boston to orlando the day before so he would know before arriving at port. Plus, I've got to give him time to let it all sink in :)

  12. I need some creative help! I've booked, and almost paid off, a cruise for my husband's 40th birthday. He has no idea :) So, now that it's getting closer (not really that close but I did book it 6 months ago), I'm trying to come up with a fun, clever way to surprise him with it.

I will be telling him about it on his actual birthday which is 10 days before we sail. I would love to hear about anyone's experience if they have either given or received a surprise like this...or have a great idea how to make the surprise memorable. Although I'm open to any ideas, I think he would think a scavenger hunt might be cheezy, but maybe not :P

  13. I'm starting to look at and think about options for our cruise in April. Can anyone help me on what my best options are on transportation? Here's where we're at:

There are 6 of us (5 adults, 1 teen)

Im pretty sure I'm going to book the Best Western at cocoa beach, but open to other options if there's a better choice

We're flying in from NH the day before and our return flight will be the day we get off the ship.

We need transportation from Orlando airport, to the hotel and then to the port in the morning.

What's the cheapest thing to do? Rental car? Private service?

    Thank you!
