  1. Happened to me ONCE. Navigator. HUGE platter of the darn things. I did a doubletake!

Must have had a surplus to get rid of.

However, to the OP, We avoid WJ if possible on the Oasis class.

The whole 'scene' is just too frantic.

They do have 'some' of the MDR dishes, but not all.

  2. It depends on what you want. I price checked a Citizen eco drive watch the last time I was in St. Thomas and the best price in the store was the same on ship.

It really depends, but good prices on lower end watches ($200 or less) can be found.

I've also price checked some mid ranges watches (around $500) and found better prices online in the US.

I would prick out a few current models you're interested in and see what they cost before you leave. Then you will know if it's a good price.

  3. Packages and prices vary by ship and itinerary.

Our upcoming med cruise on Allure states:

    10 digital photos: $174.99

    15 digital photos: $249.95

    All digital photos: $299.99

All digital photos and all prints: $399.99

(it will cost more on ship. Maybe $50-$100 more depending on package)

Allure/Oasis has had the highest prices I've seen, but more opportunity for photos. The unlimited was $499 on the caribbean cruise a couple years back.

I've seen variations on when the packages are available to buy. I sail in less than a month, and our cruise is not listed. I've seen them available 2 months out also.

With the unlimited prints option, if you notice some digital photos on the kiosk haven't been printed, you can have them printed at no extra cost. Get the image numbers and have someone note your account so you aren't charged. You have to order these on the kiosk and it will show a price, but they take this off (make sure). Not sure if this procedure has changed and may vary by ship.

Oh, take your receipt if you prepay and take a couple of copies. Especially when you check out as proof.

On the group photos question, yes. If either of the people in the cabin that paid for a package are in the photo, those should show on your account. They can be moved or added if not. I recommend taking a group photo at the first opportunity, along with singles. I've even seen some crossover where you get some that you are not in. The face recognition software may get confused and think they are in your cabin. Not sure.

Not sure if we are getting the package this time. But feel the unlimited package is worth it. even at $399.

  4. IT'S NOT A PURSE! (It's an expedition pack)

Going to try this for carrying the kit:

When I want the camera handy I'll use the Peak clip

With the long at the bottom, the smaller on top of it, the camera with a lens rests on top just perfectly

The compartment has a rain cover to keep out the weather just in case.

Lots of pockets for filters, wipes, mini tripod, etc.

Nice bag. I'm a bag 'ho' and may get a new one for this cruise. Excellent idea with the koozies. I can't count how many of those I've thrown away, dang.

I just got the Peak clip myself. Planning to use it mainly with a GoPro while hiking/biking in the Med. next month.

  5. Not sure why you think Canon is the only brand that lets you charge the battery outside the camera. They pretty much all do. The batteries for all of my Nikons can be charged outside the camera, same for the batteries for my Panasonic Lumix. The issue is not whether you can charge the battery outside the camera, it's whether an external charger is supplied by the mfr when you buy the camera. In the case of the Sony a6000, it's not.

Sony supplies a USB cable for in-camera charging of the battery by connecting it to a computer or, better yet, to a wall outlet via the also-supplied A/C connector. BUT you can also BUY an external charger that will allow you to charge the battery outside the camera (like you,my preferred method).

So when I bought my a6000, I also bought this Watson external charger:

When I'm not shooting and don't need the camera, the in-camera charging cable provides a means for me to charge two batteries at once (one in-camera and the other externally). So yes, you don't need a computer to charge the a6000 batteries (even if you don't buy an external charger).

My objection here is that more and more mfrs are not supplying external chargers with their cameras, requiring the purchase of yet another "accessory."

I got this charger for my Nikon D7000/D800 batteries. The cool thing is there are interchangeable plates for most battery types (I use the gopro, A6000, Nikon J3 plates). So if you have multiple battery types, this comes in handle. It's a bit bulky for travel but worth it in my opinion, Plus it has a display to show percentage of charge for each battery.
