  1. My mom just called. She stated they aren't allowed to reboard today. They are being put up at a Marriot. No access to their money, phone chargers or clothes, at all. Someone is getting my dad's insulin however. What a disaster...

I leave on Thursday for a cruise on Sunshine. Yikes... what a bad taste

Where is she hearing this, employee? Both of John Heald's post state they will be welcoming everyone aboard later...

  2. Updated news. Cheers all

Earlier today, while the Carnival Liberty was docked in St. Thomas, there was a fire in the ship's engine room. There were no reported injuries to guests or crew. All guests are safely ashore in St. Thomas where they have been receiving assistance from Carnival personnel. The fire has been extinguished by the ship's automated suppression system and crew have confirmed the fire is out. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

At this time, we are in the process of offering guests the opportunity to wait at a reception area in a nearby hotel for their comfort. Refreshments will be provided as guests wait to reboard the ship. We apologize to our guests for the inconvenience and we look forward to welcoming them back onboard later this evening. The ship is expected to sail no earlier than 8:00 PM.

  3. Latest update...I will have the latest news from Liberty very soon, the priority is looking after the guests on the pier which we are definitely doing. Stand by then for the news which I will share as soon as I am able.

The.Carnival Liberty crew and their shoreside colleagues are all working as a team to make sure everyone is looked after.

    Thanks, John Heald

  4. Hi,

We're due to sail on Monday with Carnival to Grand Cayman and Jamaica on a 5 day cruise.

Looks as though Erika is due to hit Miami almost exactly at the time we're going to depart. What generally happens in this situation? Do they tend to cancel the whole cruise, or just delay departure?

I haven't sailed in hurricane season before :(

Just keep checking the CCL website, they already have the storm update highlighted at the top of the page, they will keep that updated. If it goes over the Dominican Republic it will be a done deal. Let's hope.

  5. i've been cruising with carnival since the early 90's and thankfully for them' date=' almost all of the 90k cruisers a week including myself couldn't care less about these petty changes. I do not cruise for bottled water or gold parties or to try and rat out balcony smokers and so on. Only on cruise critic are these changes escalated thousands of times over. As long as carnival continues to provide me the excellent service they do and safely get me to my destinations i'll continue to sail with them. Don't sweat these changes. All companies in every business change. Enjoy your cruise.[/quote']

    PERFECT! :d

  6. We were booked in Dec. for a 4 day and ours was cancelled recently due to a charter. There were no other cruises matching to Cozumel that worked for us and when I went to re-book, even though I chose a cruise that was only $45 pp more, since it was a 6 day cruise, I was told they couldn't match it, it would had to have been another 4 day cruise. It actually worked out well for us though I think, they gave us $50 OBC and for 2 more cruising days and a bigger ship, we only ending paying $125 more and they waived any fees (I was booked ES and had not paid my entire deposit yet because we originally booked on $50 deposit).

  7. i am not sure if this has been mentioned....

Cozumel Moves to Eastern Time Zone

On February 1st, Quintana Roo will apply a new time change. According to information provided by the authorities, the time change will take place at two o'clock in the morning of February 1, 2015. That day the citizens in the State must advance the clock one hour to read three o'clock in the morning.

On December 4, 2014, in a session of the Chamber of Deputies in Mexico City, it was approved by an almost unanimous decision to apply the change of time zone which will govern the state of Quintana Roo. The reason for the change is in hopes that it will benefit tourism and activity planning of guests.

  8. Hi all,

I have not been on here in a while and this may have already been posted, but I came across a change for the parking at Port Canaveral starting December 1, 2014. Just an FYI, especially for those who pay by cash, like we do, for our cruise. This is from Port Canaveral website.

    CRUISE PARKING PAYMENT CHANGES

Effective December 1, 2014, only credit cards will be accepted for cruise parking

  9. Oh for Pete's sake! This is something you really need to know before you get on the ship!

Of course you need to know, how else do you budget? There are many people that have to know exactly what they can spend before they set foot on the ship.

I have figured from past cruises we spend $100 a day for liquor, so on a 7 day cruise like we have coming up, I would pay the $600 but not $800 because that would be just throwing hard earned $$$ away.

Not everything you read is a deal. :)

  10. I am really bummed about this change. Sailing on a New Year's cruise and will not be taking advantage of CHEERS if pricing is above the older pricing structure. :(

We did not buy it on our NY cruise this year, Carnival was handing out free champagne on embark, I had a buzz before muster. :p

They also gave out free champagne on NYE/party on deck for at least 3 hrs. That's a lot of drinking!

  11. Is this a good fan though? Like is it cool?

Yes, it has 2 speeds and fits perfect on the small table at the foot of the bed. Of course it's not like a large box fan, but the rooms are not that big. I always close the curtains during the day, while we are out, and I check the temp too, I have come into the room before and realized the steward has cut it back.

I have even used it to blow dry some clothing. We have had it 4 years now on 4 different cruises so we have definitely gotten ours $$$ worth.

  12. You are correct. Carnival's cabins can be warm, and if you call and ask for it to be cooled off, they will come check it and then give you the same song and dance that the temperature is within their guidelines. So for people who don't sleep well when the temperature is in the mid to upper 70's, a fan is a good idea. A fan also helps block out hallway noise.

I take a battery operated fan similar to this one. O2Cool is the brand and I have seen them at Walmart, Amazon, and Lowes. It is lightweight and packs well between layers of clothes in my suitcase.

    Mine has never been confiscated.

    Have a great cruise!

This is what we have too! We used it every night on a 6 day and few times getting ready for dinner and the batteries lasted just enough. Doing a 7 day this time so I am taking extra batteries.

  13. The prices on our upcoming Sunshine cruise have been dropping like crazy if you are willing to give up the cabin you booked for a guaranty. My DH and I are not willing to give up our spa interior, but I was able to upgrade my DS and his friend from an interior on deck 7 to a guaranty balcony. Not only was there no additional cost, but they now have $78 in OBC. My DS has never been in anything other than an interior and it is his friend's first cruise. It should be a great move for them. My DH and I don't want to take a chance of getting a noisy balcony, under or above a nightclub for instance, but my DS and his friend will be the noisy ones at the nightclubs all night so it doesn't matter where their cabin is located.

    That's great!

  14. Just had to congratulate you! You scored a Panorama deck balcony! You are going to looooooove it. We have sailed on Liberty twice and Freedom once. Panorama and Lido balconies are the best. Enjoy:)

I hope you will do a review when you get back. Hint hint ;)

Thank you! Good to hear! I was looking at somebody's video last night from a Panorama balcony, what a view! My hubby just kept grinning ear to ear last night after I informed him of what we were assigned! I will try to do a review, it's going to be such an awesome cruise, I can feel it. Almost time! :)

  15. They need to probably stick to Royal. I would not even try to convince them. That being said, last cruise we hung out, as always, for the day with Ian whose family runs the tiki bar at Junkanoo beach in Nassau. We weren't getting super drunk but Ian always sets us up with good libations.;)

There was another family hanging out too and we were all having fun for a few hours, when it was time to go, the wife was sooo disappointed to find out we were on CCL, she was ready to hang out with us for the duration of the cruise but she was on Royal and made the statement no one aboard was having this good a time. Pretty sure I convinced her to book CCL for the next cruise, lol. :p
