  1. Don't know about a bus. But it was a very easy walk. You can see it from the piers. Or as you come in. It's literally directly west of you. It would've a straight walk of about 5 or 6 blocks if the Hilton didn't block your path.

We were to Nassau twice, one to Atlantis and another for shopping the next block up from the pier. I don't remember the name. But to walk from the pier to Junkaroo, should we walk up to the main shopping street again and hang a right or walk the road along the water? Looking for safest route and I don't want to zip-zag the walk and end up on a side street. Thanks

  2. Someone pointed out to me there are 2 Junkanoo Beaches. One in Nassau and one in Freeport. I've been writing about the one in Nassau. Just in case there was any confusion.

Thanks so much for clarifying! We are interested in walking to the Junkaroo on Nassau. Do we just plop down on a beach chair or walk up to one of the food vendors first?

Thanks so much for all your information!

  3. I've just always considered it a wash. Low cruise fare, high air fare.

Miami is avg cruise fare, avg air fare.

New York is high cruise fare, no air fair.

That's how I look at it too, I'd pay a little more to fly to San Juan over Miami and get a better itinerary! We loved the Valor itinerary. We did that itinerary in 2012. This year we are doing the southern on the Summit, more islands than before!

Valor, Celebrity Summit and Royal Caribbean - I'd do a B2B2B and visit all the islands! Domenica, Granada, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, St. Maarten, Antigua, etc. LOVE THEM! :)

  4. We got the (non-casino) free cruise offer in February, with a deadline to book by 3/3. We immedately booked spa interior for FREE, just paid taxes. I had many, many choices - Alaska, Aruba, Hawaii. Because we'rent expecting to cruise so soon and have to pay airfare, pre-cruise hotel, etc. (and I had a Celebrity cruise booked for later this year out of San Juan), we picked the Splendor within an hour's drive in June when my daughter is out of school. I could have booked Easter week (her Spring Break) but I didn't care for the itinerary.

  5. We want to book this but here are a few questions. Did you get the transfers at $10 each to get there and back or did you get your own transport. Where and what is the Resort they have their wave runners at? I am trying to decide what is cheapest/more convenient way. There are 4 of us so I think maybe getting our own transportation might be cheaper depending on where it is. Thanks ahead of time for any info you can provide.

I don't remember what we paid but we paid the costs through Island Marketing for transportation. We met people at the resort who took a cab from the pier and I think they paid more.

If you want to spend time at the resort, their beach, eat or drink, or use the pool (and FREE wifi), then take a cab because you can stay as long as you want afterwards. Otherwise the ride back to the pier through Island Marketing will be waiting for you upon return. Unless you work it out with the driver beforehand. We didn't think we'd want to stay but if we could we would have.

  6. I also own my own online business and need internet while away.

Unlimited internet for $30?!?! Wow, I paid the 250 minutes for $100 on both the Victory in 2012 and last year on the NCL Breakaway. I plan on purchasing another internet package on the Splendor.

Which ships have unlimited internet for $30???

  7. I think the OP should call and find out exactly what's going on. Especially if you aren't happy with the new location. My cabin is probably the one thing I'm picky and anal about when it comes to cruising. I would not be happy if they moved me and didn't let me know. And if you're now in a HC cabin, there's a slight chance you could be moved again![/QUOTE]

like the song, i'm Happy, my new mantra;)

i'm afraid at this point if I call they'll boot me out of the HC and i'll get stuck above a club.:(

a friend of mine was able to book an aft the day she 1st called for 7 night sailing. I lost count of how many times I called & asked, working under the premise that maybe it depended on 'who' answered the phone = no dice. Maybe since I kept calling they made a note of it in my file and offered the HC?

Was wondering if the longer cruises (ours is an 8 day) were blocked out for direct aft cabins but think i'm seeing ur ticker says the sunshine this summer, think they are all 8 night sailings

My free cruise is an 8-day.

  8. Signed into CCL account to look at excursions for upcoming cruise and noticed our cabin # changed.

We took advantage of 'free' cruise but were only able to book the lowest priced balcony. I asked when I booked & tried calling several more times before final payment, requesting to pay to upgrade to the numerous open aft balconies. Was refused each time, CCL said it just wasn't possible. We like the afts & the wraps but honestly, just thrilled to be sailing.

Anyway, we are now in one of the HC balconies, same category as I booked - 8A. Appears to have more space, but think we lose the couch & not keen on being so forward on the ship. Our original cabin is showing booked & I didn't see any others in the category open via a cursory check.

When I made the reservation I picked from list that CCL rep provided, all slept more than 2 pp. Went with what I thought 'the best' available cabin for our needs - in quiet area & not too many decks from lido. Perhaps a larger party wanted to book an 8A cabin?

Just hope between now & then they don't arbitrarily move us again. We've only had an upgrade on another line once and I didn't catch it until a few weeks before the cruise. Realize that if somebody requires a HC room we would get re-assigned. Can I assume they'd at least give us a balcony in that instance? When should I stop worrying;)

That's strange. Also, when I was booking my free cruise I was able to book aft balconies but we decided not to upgrade and stuck with an interior.

With that, I was able to book a spa interior which is NOT the lowest category interior.

I just checked my reservation on Carnival.com and everything is still intact. I am going to be upset if they move me to a 1A, if that were the case I would have upgraded to a balcony. I only chose the interior because we wanted to check out the spa without having to book a balcony.

  9. My PVP lacks information too so I do my own research.

I realized the value of a PVP when a month or so ago I called the 800 number asking if I could switch my free cabin sailing for another date. She put me on hold and after a few minutes told me that there was no availability on my new date request. I thanked her and hung up.

An hour later I was checking my emails and see a CANCELLATION notice from Carnival. I freaked out!

I immediately called my PVP, explained to her what I did and she scolded me for doing so, that the 800 reps are a different group and not knowledgeable at all. What happened was, yes, in order to find availability they needed to cancel the original sailing and check the new sailing but what the 800 number person FORGOT to do was reinstate my original booking.

NEVER AGAIN will I talk to an 800 rep unless it has nothing to do with my direct booking. Luckily I caught it quick and my PVP was able to rebook it, as she too was worried that my booking number changed to, but it didn't.

  10. We have one on the spa deck 10 on the Splendor. I picked a room close to the doors that lead to the overlook of the Lido deck rather than far, far forward (by the secret deck). The reason I picked was to be close to the elevators and Lido. The spa deck on the Liberty was very quiet.

  11. I got mine sometime in January, I think? I don't remember exactly when.

Thanks, but I was asking the other person who just joined and is going on the 29th.

Oh well, I was just wondering if there were additional offers being sent out.

Still excited about my "free" cruise in June - too bad I can share it here. Enjoy yours, Beachy! :D

  12. Having just spent an hour+ of what was supposed to be a 2 hour and 22 minute drive trying to get from Manhattan to NJ via the GWB, I'm not sure the words "easier driving" should be associated in any way with Manhattan!

You should have taken the Lincoln Tunnel, it's right next to the pier in NYC! When we left after our cruise in November, it took us less than 5 minutes to go from the pier to New Jersey on a Sunday morning.

  13. Royal attracts different passengers. If you are coming from Pennsylvania or New Jersey it is relatively easy to drive to the Bayonne port and park there for the length of a cruise. Manhattan is a different situation.

I don't believe that, Manhattan is an easier drive than Bayonne, plus in Manhattan you have access to bus and train lines from all over the northeast, some within an easy walking distance if need be.

Bayonne, on the other hand, is only accessible by car and is out of the way.

  14. And that is the reason they no longer do winter sailings.I am sure until they can get better prices for winter they will not sail from NYC.Now if they had better itineraries and a new ship they might get higher prices for winter too.

I saw someone say they are sailing the Splendor out of Norfolk. I don't think Norfolk is going to get any more passengers than New York City.
