1. Oh, good. Please let us know if you can see the fireworks from the balcony.

Another poster thinks the angled balcony loses privacy. We didn't find this at all on the Epic. The extra space allows a lounger or two. Our steward brought one -- didn't think to ask for two!

I don't think these corner balconies are large enough to put a lounger or two on the Breakaway. I believe the pie-shaped space is smaller on the Breakaway than the Epic.

  2.
At some time in 2014 they will no longer be sailing out of Baltimore due to some restrictions that the government has imposed.
The last cruise out of Baltimore on the Pride is the repositioning on November 30th. I can book other weeks in November on the Pride from Baltimore but can't find the cruise leaving on November 2nd.

Looks like October 26-November 2nd is unable to book, on TA sites I get an error.

There is a 2 week period that we can't book the Pride, October 26-November 9.

I guess she's getting some refurbishing before she does her last 3 cruises in November out of Baltimore and heads down to Tampa?

Too bad, we were looking to book that cruise for 11/2/14.
  3. A few months ago I was looking at ships leaving our of NYC and Baltimore for November 2, 2014. I saw the Carnival Pride there for a 7 day cruise to HMC, Freeport and GT but it's no longer listed, Is she scheduled for drydock at that time?

Carnival Pride 7-day round-trip to Bahamas from Baltimore Sun Nov 02 (Baltimore, departing 4:30pm), Mon Nov 03 (At Sea), Tue Nov 04 (At Sea), Wed Nov 05 (Grand Turk, 8:00am to 2:00pm), Thu Nov 06 (Half Moon Cay, 9:00am to 5:00pm), Fri Nov 07 (Bahamas/Freeport, 7:00am to 1:30pm), Sat Nov 08 (At Sea), Sun Nov 09 (Baltimore, arrive 9:00am).
  4. add us to the list of people looking to book the 9-day June 2015 cruise on the Quantum. This may coincide with DD's HS graduation before she leaves for college although now she's thinking of starting Summer 2015 which would be the last week of June. Ugh, cutting it close. Heck, maybe I'll send her off to college and take the cruise with my parents (DH isn't thrilled about cruising).

I think we are going to forego our 2014 cruise next year (I can't find a cruise I'm happy with, i.e.: I don't have to fly to) ;) and concentrate on a Quantum Summer 2015 cruise.

  5. From what I've read, that answer depends on what is important to you. In terms of cabin size, most of the difference is in the bathroom. However, the mid ship mini suites have pretty small balconies. I opted to go with an aft facing balcony instead of the mini suite for my trip in Feb 2014. I'd much rather invest my travel dollars in an enjoyable balcony than a bathroom.

I agree, we moved to a B1 aft cabin on the Breakaway, much better bang for your buck.

  6. Sorry to break-in... I've been reading everything I can on the Breakaway as our family is planning a cruise for next year. This will be the first NCL cruise for any of us. I've only been on two cruises and as you can see in my signature, they've both been on the Miracle - I need to get out more

Anyway... not to sound too ignorant, but ... you have to PAY for the SHOWS?

PS - LOVE this review Gambee.. I catch up during my lunch hour and first thing each morning :D

Hi, I'm new to NCL so I'll try and help. The Cirque show is a fee because it involves a special dinner. It's not mandatory to go to Cirque, you can find FREE fine dining in the MDRs on the ship. If you want a specialty restaurant, then you'll also have to pay extra, anywhere from $15-$49 pp. As far as I know, all other shows on the ship is free.

  7. Gambee,

I thought you and your followers would be interested in knowing this. So I am now 45 days out and I call NCL to book my shows. Based on your recommendation even thou I haven't read your review on the seating at Cirque I decided to book standard seating. GUESS WHAT? There is no longer standard and premium seating. All seats are now $39.99 and are on a first come first serve basis. This really irks me because I know someone who is on the same cruise but was able to book 55 days out and got standard seating for $29.99. Even thou I had no intention of booking a spa pass that price has now been increased to $199 for the week. NCL is really trying to nickel and dime everyone. More increases to come!!!

That's wrong! If it were up to me, I wouldn't even bother with Cirque, I don't see the draw, saw the version in DisneyWorld and thought it was overpriced. Since it was going to be on the ship, and everyone hypes about Cirque, I was going to take my parents but now I'm thinking twice. Really annoyed that RCL is telling me I have to spend ANOTHER $200 AND stand on line for how many hours before just to get a decent view. I'm boycotting Cirque on Breakaway if that's the case.

  8. Thank you Gambee for starting your review already - it looks amazing so far!!

Looking forward to your in-depth review of the ship, as well as your deck 12 B1 aft cabin, as we are also on deck 12. We originally booked an inside, upgraded to a deck 14 standard balcony, then switched to the aft-facing balcony because of it's size. I haven't told the family yet - so should be a surprise to all!

Thanks again for doing a review - looking forward to the rest! :D

  9. That is some good info to start with thanks for the info.

Lots of info on Samana on the DR port board: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=374

NCL Gem stops there too, was booked on a cruise but after Sandy we had to cancel, never did get there. We were planning on going to Cayo Levantado. There is tour guide in DR who gets rave reviews if you'd like to do something else besides Cayo or going into town:
