Our ship overnights in Quebec but I intend to fly out the first day and not spend the night. Are taxis always available at the cruise port to go to the airport? Would it be better to make a reservation in advance with a taxi or car company?  If so, what would you recommend? I am not an Uber fan. Thanks for the help.

    Not necessary.

  2. There are taxis in Saguenay.

They take Canadian dollars, and most (probably all) should take credit cards.

There will be some drivers that don't speak English. Suggest you have the name & address of your destination written down.

Uber is not yet available in that area of the province.

Is Uber usually available at the train station in QC?

Yes. Uber will not be queued up, but summoning a car should be pretty quick.

Be advised, At the heights of tourist season, Ubers are in quite high demand in Quebec City & surge pricing happens frequently.

  4. AML Cruises here in Quebec offers several short cruises out of various Montreal & Quebec City.

You may want to consider shore side stays, combined with several shorter cruises which are really good at highlighting the local flavor & highlights of the St-Lawrence river.

Does the US Uber app work in Canada or do I need a different one?

If I have US money on my Uber account and use it in Canada will it convert or will I be charged in US dollars instead of Canadian dollars?

    Thanks for any help

Your Uber App will work in Canada. Not all cities up here have Uber service. Montreal / Quebec City / Ottawa / Toronto all have service.

Vancouver does not (possibly by Sept 2019).

    Atlantic provinces do not.

Can someone give me directions from the airport, (which our driver knows how to get to) to the Port, specifically T1 which the Zaandam will be docked at in September. We are coming from Ontario and driving down the morning of our cruise.  I understand there are lots of detours due to construction going on and maybe some will be done by the time our cruise rolls around, but in case they aren't finished with all the construction, an easy way on a Saturday to get to the Port.  Thanks so much.

It's pretty much impossible to say in advance what the best route will be, given that we really don't know what the state of road construction will be then, nor what day you need to travel.

That being said, if you're boarding on a weekend morning, traffic in general is much lighter going downtown compared to a weekday morning.

See below link for exact address of the terminal, and detailed map of the piers.

My best suggestion would be to have your driver use the "Waze" navigation tool on his/her mobile phone. Enter the address of the terminal, and follow the directions. Waze takes into account all current known construction zones & traffic snarls to provide you the most efficient route.

Enjoy your visit to Montreal & your Cruise !

Hi, can the Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré Sanctuary be reached on public transport from Quebec City? If so, please provide details.

    Thanks

It's about 30-35 kms (20-22 miles) to get from the Port to Ste-Anne de Beaupré.

PLUMobile offers small bus service from Quebec City to the Basilica (as points before-after)...but the service is very limited.

Oh my goodness, smoked meat! We were in Montreal for the first time last fall before our 14 day trip on HAL, and ate it pretty much every day. We're doing a similar 14 day on Celebrity this coming October, but only going as far as Quebec City, so I am happy to hear that there will be smoked meat there too. https://www.foodnetwork.ca/shows/great-canadian-cookbook/blog/the-delicious-history-of-montreal-smoked-meat/

You can even get Poutine topped with Smoked Meat, Pizza topped with Smoked Meat, Eggs Benedict over Smoked Meat...etc.

  9. If you get off before 8am, you'll be fine. Especially if you dock on a Saturday or a Sunday. As stated above, you will go through USCBP here in Montreal, so need to allow about an hour for that. It's often faster than that...but you never know ahead of time.

We are disembarking in Quebec on a Sunday in September.  Our flight home is not until 7 pm.  Changing to an earlier flight or even one the next day is cost prohibitive.  I'm trying to figure out how to avoid sitting in a small airport for several hours.  I saw on the port website that there is the ability to store one's luggage at the cruise terminal for a cost while one tours about Quebec City.   This seems to be the most cost effective way to kill time, even though we have been to Quebec City before and have seen many of the sights.  Does anyone have details on how secure this luggage storage is?  Are there individual lockers or is it one big room, with an agent?  I'm thinking mostly of electronic devices that one would normally keep in one's carry-on; I'd like to make sure those are secure or else we'll have to take them with us, if we use this service.

I did get a quote from one company that would pick us up at the terminal with our luggage and tour us about the countryside but that was $875 plus tax and gratuity.  Too dear for us, I'm afraid.  The cruise line airport transfer could include a tour (of sights we have already seen) for $115USD, but would only kill four hours and would still get us to the airport at least six hours prior to our flight.  We will not have any lounge access at the airport, either.

    Thanks for your help!

The airport is not that far. I would head over there in an Uber, check my luggage, then take an Uber back to do whatever you feel like.

Thank you so much!  So, to clarify - we do not get picked up by Uber in the arrivals area, but in departures? Good to know.  We will certainly notify our credit card company in advance.  DH's "retirement job" is a Uber/Lyft driver, so he prefers that to a cab. He is out driving right now!

That is correct. The terminal building is "L" shaped. You go UP to Departures Level, the head for the crook in the "L". Right outside next to the sidewalk you will see a special lane painted BLUE, which is where Uber drivers are allowed to pick up riders. I am also a part-time Uber driver.

Are Lyft and Uber available at the airport?

    Hi Sunny AZ Girl;

UBER is available at Montreal & Quebec City airports, and is very easy to use.

For the Montreal airport, head UP to Departures Level, go to door #7, and book your ride on the App. A driver will be assigned and show up within a few minutes. Be sure to advise your Credit Card company that you will be using the card outside the USA. I've seen a few Uber riders have issues with the App when the CC issuer is not aware.

LYFT is not offered yet in the Province of Québec.

    Enjoy your stay !

  13. You could probably use the show lounge if you talk to the CD. There are lots of times during the day when it is not in use. Lots of room to sit down for the guests. Heck...you could probably do it "Live On Stage" at the Love & Marriage show in the lounge...talk to the CD...he hosts it and I bet he would love a different angle on his usual schtick.
