  1. The question will be if MAS cruise line will abandon Palm Beach County, Florida altogether. Tampa is a nice size cruise port. MAS Cruise line cannot compete with the cruise lines leaving out of the biggies such as Port Canaveral, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami.

I think someone said the new ship would not fit into the Port of Palm Beach.

I'm concerned MAS is going to ditch Palm Beach and just operate the new ship out of Tampa. This ship is actually pretty huge and they're going to have to compete there with the other ships that operate 4-nt cruises to Cozumel. Will be interesting.

I totally agree about them ditching Palm Beach.

  3. I love the news but we have no chance of her sailing out of the Port of Palm Beach. Kind of sad about that seeing that I live in Palm Beach county. If they decide to put her in Tampa I might take the trip cross state to go to Mexico. I can’t imagine her being ported in Palm Beach. It’s a very nice upgrade from the Classica though.

Nassau? The three-day cruise would be "at sea", Nassau, "at sea". The four-day could do an overnight in Nassau. Package the cruise with a day pass to the Margaritaville in Nassau.

Bimini would make more sense than Nassau. Most people I know won’t get off of the ship in Nassau

This "article" is nothing but another sleazy hit job against the cruise industry. The website's "motto" is "Everything Cruise Lines Don't Want You To Know." That's the kind of verbiage used by ambulance chaser lawyers with their "1-800-BAD-DRUG" late-night commercials. Please. How about an analysis from a legal expert WITHOUT an axe to grind?

I did read the article, and it is very interesting. I can't speak to whether Florida lacks standing. The legal merits of the case are one thing, but this author's take on everything is suspect from the get-go. For one thing, he again parrots the same tired BS about cruise ships being particularly suited to the transmission of illness. Sorry, but that is SO pre-Covid. He mentions the once-in-a-century pandemic and the number of lives taken, etc., all of which is true. BUT SO IS THE INDUSTRY'S RESPONSE, and that he addresses barely. It is nothing short of duplicitous to point out the supposed failures of the industry (in which he hearkens again back to March 2020) but not to acknowledge a) the efforts by the cruise industry to keep people safe nor b) the lack of widespread outbreaks onboard any of the vessels that have sailed since last year. He does the classic apples vs oranges thing of comparing a short, 2-hour flight to a long cruise with thousands of unvaccinated people crammed together. Considering the vaccinations we've had, the capacity requirements, the social distancing, the temperature checks, the cruiseline-sponsored excursions, and the enhanced cleaning and fresh air protocols (none of which he bothers to mention, how convenient), it's clear he doesn't understand the subject matter. This guy has an agenda, and it's clear from the outset he hates the industry. I am not particularly hopeful about the outcome of this lawsuit for various reasons. For one thing, and here I agree with the author, the representatives of the major cruise lines have not joined it. Maybe that's because they don't want to make enemies of the CDC, I don't know. But I do think that's significant. Nonetheless, it's disappointing to read something that the OP @Stallion clearly wants people to believe is some objective, sober legal analysis of this case, when it's nothing but a hit job by a cruise industry hater. Move along, folks, nothing to see here.

    Amen Brother🥰

I look at the 95/98 number differently. You can be fully vaccinated but the efficacy is 95 to 98%, meaning there is a 5% chance of getting Covid even after vax. That is the reason they require a test for vaccinated passengers. The chances are reduced that one of the passengers will be one of the very few that the vaccine didnt work in the scheme of things. There will never be 100% on anything. When this mess started the CDC said herd immunity in any area where no more than 15% of hospital beds due to Covid is the goal. We reached that long ago. Tests are coming up positive, but how serious and deadly are those new cases? The media is salivating any news about reactions, they are the ones that cause people to doubt. JandJ have been administered to over 8 million people and only 15 people had blood clots. I will take that % any day of the week. That is a % of a% of a %

    Well said🥰

And how, exactly, do you prove "natural immunity".  Will they all be subjected to serology tests (the only way to PROVE it) to prove this?  I donated blood almost 2 weeks ago, the serology test on that sample took10 days to come back.  Can it return sooner?  Possibly, but that's been my experience and the last time I donated it took even longer to come back.  Where would one even go to have that test done?

As for the family members being advised by their PCP to not not automatically get the vaccine - my experience was the exact opposite, my PCP's office CALLED ME to offer the vaccine, and after advising them I'd had COVID, recovered and had not had a monoclonal infusion they told me to come in that day for the vaccine if I wanted it.  Oh, and my parents (in their 70's) both had COVID and were not advised NOT to get the vaccine...

Wow if that isn’t confusing I don’t know what is.

  8. Got a call from NCL today, my cruise was cancelled for July 2 out of Miami. They offered all kinds of new deals and were extremely nice. But at this point I just want my money back and they were fine with that. I’m tired of waiting for this month, then the next month. This way I’ll have my cash and if another cruise line should open up (I live in Florida) I’ll have my cash.  And maybe just maybe things will open up and I could sail again in 2022.

My Son and some of his friends did a three day Sky cruise a few years ago.  They said the ship was loaded with drunks and one of the worst cruises they ever had.

That was probably the time when drinks were included in their cruise package. They have stopped that because of the problems with drunks.

Anyone been on this ship since the refurbishment? Is this a good ship for a short cruise?  I realize its an older ship. That is ok. Looking for opinions.

I sailed on her last year. Very nice job inside. Not sure about the cabins. we stayed in the owners suite and you can’t complain about that. I love that size ship because I have trouble walking so it’s a perfect size for me.

  11. I’m booked on the Sky for December 2020 which doesn’t stand a chance in hell to sail but anyway I’m booked in the Owners Suite. No Haven on this ship but we have butler and concierge service. We dine in Cagne’s for breakfast and lunch. The hot tub is fun too.

I've been surprised that just in the short time I've been cruising they've added three ships and haven't retired any of the older ones. This seems like the perfect time to do it. Cruises are already canceled. Ships are nearly empty. I'd be contacting to the Bahamas Paradise people and see if they're looking to expand or upgrade.

In better times, I think BPCL would jump at the chance to buy another Carnival ship. However, their two ships have been sitting idle. One is still in the port of Palm Beach and the other is in Freeport awaiting an refit. Not sure if the latter will happen.

Yes but msc said they can get crew retrained in 2 weeks.  I also think that crews contracts would be up anyway.  Once things fully open by july getting new crew in wont be such a problem imo.  But i agree they could have other issues internally.

But lets face it. The two best options for going in the us were texas and florida. And covid numbers have been spiking.

I live in Florida. I know no one who has or had this disease. Also I was at my doctors office and they had no cases. The Governor did have a news conference and explained that they figured out that most of the cases has to do with our migrant population who unfortunately live in very close quarters in not very good living conditions. Our hospitals near the the shoreline where I live have plenty of beds available not in use and our hospitals are not crowded but this is not so in areas of Belle Glade and LaBelle which is where our cane fields are. Also, we have problems with the jails. So that kind of cleared up things in my mind where these COVID cases were. The Governor said he will not close the state down again but continue to monitor these high risk areas. We haven’t had a spike in our senior community which I am a part of because we have been staying away from crowds and wearing masks and seeing our doctors now. People can’t continue to live in isolation because of their mental state. There has to be a medium of both cautionary measures and also allow people to continue on with their lives. I know this doesn’t help any questions with cruises but I’m just letting you know where Florida is at this time and we have a lot of cruise ports.

I have not had a muster drill like that in years. The last few cruises we have been on we checked in at one of the common areas (lounge, casino, etc.), listened to the speech, and left. Of course it was a hastle getting back to the cabin, but it beats carrying a life jacket and standing outside in the heat.

On the NCL Sky and all of my cruises with Carnival have all been outside on a hot deck sandwiched in 4-5 lines deep.  What ships have you been sailing on that have inside muster drills.

  15. I just don’t see how they can do the muster drills the way they used to. You can’t have 5 rows of people jammed on the deck of the ship. It was so dangerous doing that without covid19. I would imagine if they were smart they would televise it and then go cabin to cabin to have everyone swear and sign an affidavit  that they watched the video. Or have them in the main theater with staggered seating.

makes sense but the bliss never made it from ny to west coast in april because pandemic.

(with the leaked schedule, the initial ships are sky, bliss, and encore.)

so doubtful the bliss will be sailing out of LA this oct.

unless they are going to spend $$$ sailing a megaship with no paying passengers thru the new panama locks? (doubtful)

my updated guess at the ports are:

    miami: sky and bliss

    ny: Encore

I totally concur on Miami. Previously mentioned was New York. I totally disagree with New York because Canada and Bermuda are locked down tight until 2021.

If the Caribbean is anything like Bermuda they are saying not so fast

The Caribbean islands and the Bahamas will be far more welcoming than Bermuda. Bermuda is extremely restrictive in their government. They even restrict the amount of car allowed on their island. Bermuda will be one of the last countries to open to tourism.
