  1. I guess the problem is with a 3.30 check in slot. If I had a 1pm slot I would aim for that time, knowing that if I was an hour or so late I would still get on the ship. That's not the case with a 3.30 slot. A 2 hour delay means the risk of a missed departure. Hence I would aim for a couple of hours earlier. Hence it all means targeting around 1pm or so whatever timeslot I am given.

I guess that means I'm part of the problem. But I'm just happy to read a newspaper and wait my turn.

  2. I think that if I had a 3.30 check in time I would also aim to arrive about 1pm. With a 2 hour drive for me, trying to arrive on the check in time is too risky in case of any delays. To be honest I would find a 90 min delay perfectly acceptable. Still much better than an airport.

  3. Personally I love the the discussion about other peoples cruising experiences. It's just that on freedom dinning you have to do it every night to new people. I much prefer to be able to build on the conversation as the cruise progresses with the same group of people. But its good we all are different.

  4. Now at £39.10 - what's going on? Bought at £22 - thank you....

A good investment with cruises at least every year and the dividends. REALLY wish all my shares did as well!!

Lower fuel prices resulting in increased forecast profit for this quarter trading.

  5. Cruises may be excluded from some policies due to the difficulty in getting travellers to hospital for treatment. If you are going on a cruise, make sure you have appropriate cover for this.

Extract from the foreign office regarding travel insurance. So worth checking to make sure.

  6. I doubt very much that any packaged policy from a high street bank would require you to notify the insurer that you are going on a cruise as such. It mainly the destination which is important to check. I have traveled using a packaged policy without concern the main thing is that you read it and has been said read the exclusions in particular.

  7. An example of how it can work. Cruised with Azamara thus summer. Filght included in the package. When we were advised of the flight time it was not ideal so we asked Azamara if they would change it which they did straight away. We then asked if they could book it with our BA exec club number which they did. This meant we could go into the ba system and book the seat allocation directly with ba. Yes we did have to pay 20 pounds pp for exit room seats but that is pretty standard. I think most of the concerns raised relate to airline practice rather than pando.

  8. Perfect time to visit. Weather unpredictable but I managed to get a suntan on the journey home. But for Me the main benefit is that you can still see the snow on top of the mountains as well as the wonderful waterfalls.

After I booked my first cruise I joined Le Club Voyage and got a membership number and then used that to register for the the upgrade offer. I got a call through the TA asking if I wanted an upgrade. I had not said to my TA to look for an upgrade. I may well have just been lucky but for first time cruisers I would suggest joining Le Club Voyage fill out the request and hope you are lucky. It worked for me.:)

  10. Did you take the offer?

Hopefully there will be at least one Club Continental Suite left by the time Azamara gets down the list to our request.

This will be our first Azamara cruise. We were a bit surprised to get a upsell call and interestingly it was at a lower cost than the GBP equivalent of $398. Ours was from an ocean view to a balcony (one week).

Like all things with cruise pricing its more of an art than a science.

  11. On the same cruise. However we got Azamara to log the flight against our bank executive club numbers which means we were able to pre book seats on the flights. At a cost though as its greater than 24 hours before the flights.

We had our electronic notification last week and just got a call from the ta asking if we wanted a paid upgrade so I guess its not sold out.

  12. The actual current UK Gov't advice is:

"The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to within 10 km of the border with Syria.

The FCO advise against all but essential travel to:

##the remaining areas of Sirnak, Mardin, Sanliurfa, Gaziantep, Kilis and Hatay provinces

    ##Siirt, Tunceli and Hakkari provinces.

Over 2,500,000 British nationals visit Turkey every year. Most visits are trouble-free."

The extract from the Daily Mail is years old.

The Tunisia incident is horrible but I would not apply it to heighten any fear about Turkey.

  13. This will be my first azamara cruise however looking at the white night evening it looks like everything I would wish to avoid on a cruise (based on the small snipits that have been shown on tv recently). Are the MDR or speciality restaurants still open that evening. (How soon will I know what night I am trying to avoid).

    Thanks very much
