  1. I agree with the above. From our experience, our son did not experience motion sickness at all when he was little, even when we were coming back on the "hurricane cruise" and the ship was rocking so hard until things were rolling across the floor to one end of the cabin and then rolling back to the other end. He thought it was great and kept saying "whee" while the rest of us were gobbling up ginger tablets and green apple peels and every other thing we could get our hands on.

I asked someone about this once, and they explained it to me that kids' centers of gravity are so low, since they're so close to the ground, so it's very difficult to wobble them. Plus, as toddlers, they're used to being unsteady on their feet, so the rocking of the ship might actually feel like equilibrium for them. LOL!

    Enjoy!

It is $50 per the current terms and conditions. There used to be an exception for Bermuda with 3 days in port, but that has gone away.

Overnight stays are counted as individual ports/days for shore excursion credit.”

That new T&C language is anything but clear. I could read it either way.

You would need to see the video. It wasn't very complementary about the specific ports mentioned in it. I have never been down that way, but it has certainly put me off, especially as there seems to be more than one video floating around on a similar theme for that area.

Even so -- it is very offensive to refer to people's homes as a "third world hell hole," particularly when you have never even been there. There are plenty of unfavorable videos available of this country as well. And probably our crime rate exceeds those other countries', as well.

It's also possible that the "gambler" lied to you just to make himself seem more important.

    This!

The gambler's story sounds fabricated, or at least greatly exaggerated. With the way that NCL behaves these days, I seriously doubt that one person's (even a high roller) threat of abandoning the line would have any effect at all.

  6. I used to work for an IT company that developed software for a major hotel chain. The purpose of the software was to figure out at any given moment what the room rate ought to be. It used a pretty complicated (and not always logical) series of algorithms that took into account factors such as: how many rooms are left in the category and what is the likelihood based on historical data that more people will want the rooms than there are rooms available; what time of year it is / proximity to a major holiday; amenities offered at the property and whether they were all accessible at that moment (i.e., is it too cold for the pool, is there construction going on in the gym, etc); etc.

And it was not at all rare for the system to spit out a nonsensical set of prices, which someone had to review and which the majority of the time was due to a faulty setting somewhere in all those factors.

Said all that to say, perhaps it's just a software anomaly. 🙂

  7. Here is another option for you to consider: if you don't want the stress of trying to meet an early flight on debarkation day, and you are able to stay an extra day, plan to spend one night in Barcelona and catch that same early flight the next day. That is what my family did. We found that the expense of the extra day -- hotel, food, transportation -- was less than the difference between the early morning flight price and the later-in-the-day flight price. So, we were able to "save" money that way, reduce stress, and enjoy an extra day in Barcelona.

  8. When we took our then-5-year-old on a Baltic cruise, there were a total of 9 children onboard. It was often the case that when we dropped him off at Kids' Club, there were no other children there. I thought he would not want to stay, but he did, and he always had a blast. Usually a handful of the other children would trickle in, but whether they did or not, my son had a ball and always complained when we picked him up at 10 o'clock at night to come back to the room to sleep for a bit. :D

  9. We haven't done Norwegian's pre-cruise hotel out of Port Canaveral but did do it out of Copenhagen and are planning to do it again for the Hawaiian cruise. It worked just fine. As someone mentioned earlier, it's crazy expensive, but we have gotten it as freebies with different promotions -- that is the only time we use it, i.e, when it's free. :)

  10. Regarding whether this is "new" or not -- I think it is not new in terms of stated policy; however, I can tell you from personal experience that the policy was not always enforced. I remember reading the policy before our 2016 cruise and, based on what I read, expecting to have to pay the balance of the full suite deposit amount after applying the certificate -- and then being pleasantly surprised when the booking website didn't require any additional payment.

Perhaps there are / were other factors in play that are not readily obvious? Maybe it takes into consideration your Latitudes status, etc? Not sure.

  11. We took our 19-month-old on his first cruise and opted for a suite. The extra room was a plus for all of the toddler gear -- stroller, case of diapers, etc -- and having a butler who could keep our fridge stocked with lactose-free milk as well as a concierge who could keep waiting-in-line times to a minimum were very beneficial, we thought.

Having said that, would we have gone anyway if we didn't have a suite? Absolutely! :)

  12. I remember my first "real" cruise -- I had booked it through a travel agent, didn't know anyone who cruised regularly, and honestly had no idea about those gratuities. I stumbled across Cruise Critic prior to going on my trip, and when I heard about the gratuities there, I was very taken aback. We were traveling as a family of 4, and it was a 7-day cruise, so the additional expense was not insignificant for us. When I expressed my angst on CC, I got completely ripped apart. It was not fun.

  13. I have never had any issue talking to a PCC other than my assigned one. In my experience, unless I call my PCC's extension specifically, I always end up in the general pool and talk to whoever answers the phone. And they never say "oh, I see you have PCC so-and-so, let me transfer you."
