  1. The small crowd MIGHT have been the handicapped muster, or it might have been a supplemental muster if they boarded at a later port. But out of Galveston??? No. Way.

And To PhillyKid. Remember you have to be on board an hour before sailaway. So if you show up around 10PM, you may very well be left behind.\

  2. They do tend towards "bland"...to try and satisfy everyone....you can always ADD stuff...you can't take it away!

Bingo!!!! In order to cook for all the tastes that a cruise ship has,

    Vegetarian,

    Vegan,

    Low Sodium,

    Gluten Free,

    Shellfish, Egg, Milk, etc, allergies.

Carnival must cook the food relatively bland. I have found that a little salt and pepper will perk up the taste. One person on a cruise a few years ago brought a small vial of garlic salt to season his food. Tabasco is readily available. Use it.

The food is good, they just can't season it. So you have to.

  3. Same thing happened to me...well, I guess I let it happen by not reading everything on the screen before I hit enter/select/return or whatever. In fairness only to myself, I did it late at night just before going to bed, so I likely just missed that check box or whatever was displayed.

But even so , not a big deal to me as you have to pay for it eventually anyways. And should absolute disaster strike and we someone cannot go, forget to cancel or whatever, and I lose it all...again not a big deal in the bigger game of life. Actually right now I feel pretty good that our cruise is all paid for 7 months early!

Oh yeah I could have put the money in the bank and could have netted $10 or so in interest...again not a big deal.

Where are you banking that you could make $10 in interest in 7 months on an amount for a 5 day cruise. Even in the Captain's suite, $10 in interest is a lot nowadays.

  4. Seems like it also may now be tied into Final Payment Date. I first submitted about a month ago through my Travel Agent. Did not hear anything. Last week (at 75 days) I faxed the request again. Yesterday I got email acknowledgement and today it is showing on my documents.

    YMMV

  5. Leaving on the Triumph in January out of Galveston.

Looking at Google Streetview, there appears to be a pedestrian bridge from a Public Parking lot at Rosenberg Street and Harborside. Since we will be dropped off about two hours before our Check in Window. Can we use this bridge to access the terminal after exploring downtown for a couple of hours.

The Google Streetview shows it as a skeletal framework from Rosenberg, but when viewed from 22nd it appears to be complete and enclosed.

So. . . Anyone local or recent cruisers have any input.

Also anyplace downtown to get sodas to take on board?

  6. A simple question that has not been answered (or apparently asked). Is it possible to drop off the luggage with the porters before your check in time and then maybe (in Galveston) walk over to the Strand for a little last minute shopping while waiting for your "window" to check in.

Our shuttle is scheduled to arrive in Galveston about 9:30 but the earliest check in that I could get was 11:00. Since it has been about 20 years since I visited Galveston and my wife has never been, it might be a good way to waste an hour and a half, if I could drop the luggage.
  7. From the front of the ship (by the Lido Pool) if you come in the middle entrance (between Guys and Blue Iguana, you immediately come to carpet by the elevators. Continue straight ahead and you will be right in the middle of the Buffet (by the Mongolian Wok) Avoiding the slick spots every time.

From the rear come through the middle area by the elevators and again you come to carpet. Proceed forward and you are in the rear dining area. Again avoiding the slick spots.

    Problem avoided.

  8. Just found a decent (so far) Travel Agent through a Facebook Friend. Even though he is across the country, he seems to be involved with his business. He checks for price drops, he has found OBC. And recently he was able to change an error in our booking. (one birthday was off by 2 days) The Cruise Line would have charged us for correcting the error. If his work continues to be excellent, I know we will probably be repeat customers of his.

  9. I really hate to interject this here. (Okay, I like to interject) But I am picturing Sea Aggies on a Cruise Ship in the middle of a cow pasture.

I am so glad y'all mentioned this!! Here's the info from the TXDOT site:

Northbound from BAY AREA BLVD to EL DORADO BLVD. Total Closure. Closed continuously from 8:00 PM, Friday, October 2 to 5:00 AM, Monday, October 5. Detour:Motorist will exit Bay Area Blvd and re-enter at El Dorado.

Northbound from EL DORADO BLVD to FM-1959/DIXIE FARM RD. 2 Outside Lane(s). Closed continuously from 8:00 PM, Friday, October 2 to 5:00 AM, Monday, October 5.

I have an appointment Sunday morning right at 45 and El Dorado, so I guess I'd better find a back way! And I am about to pass this on to our Aggie Moms group, so everyone can alert their Sea Aggies who are likely heading up to The Holy Land for the game against Miss. St. on Saturday.

Thanks again for the heads up!

  10. This post is interesting because a lot of the things mentioned are things that I have brought up in the past.

The whole point of a passport is to prove your identity. We would never be in a foreign country without it being on our person. We have waterproof pouches if we're going in the water.

The whole take a copy of the passport thing is useless. This is the same as taking copies of your license, credit cards and cash. Why are you more likely to lose your passport than those other items? Be aware of your surroundings just as you would in any other place. We use our passports as ID even when we fly domestically. It is the best form of ID. We have had to produce our passports on a few occasions when we used a credit card. I think maybe those that don't travel internationally very much are the ones that fret about losing the passport. We just feel it is another piece of identification. Be aware of pickpockets, especially in certain countries where it is prevalent.

I would be more concerned about my credit cards and cash the day after Thanksgiving in downtown Chicago while surrounded by thousands of people than on an island.

Be aware of your surroundings, take your passport, and have fun.

Interesting that you bring up Credit Cards after Thanksgiving. Just read this article on another site.

    http://krebsonsecurity.com/2015/09/tracking-bluetooth-skimmers-in-mexico-part-ii/

In it they mention that ALL of the ATMs in Tulum were loaded with skimmer technology. Wonder how many cruisers have used those ATMs?

  11. We had a similar cruise booked several years ago. (MIA-COZ-Colon-Puerto Limon) on the Miracle. The Miracle had Azipod problems and was essentially running on one side of the ship and they replaced Colon and Puerto Limon with Costa Maya and Roatan. We understood and I think we got $150 per cabin OBC for the change. Since we had not been to either Costa Maya or Roatan, the change worked. Sometimes you just have to go with what is available.

  12. You will get both sides of discussion. Some say only take a color photocopy off the ship. (This will make getting a replacement easier, supposedly. But you will still have to pay for a new passport)

Others say always take the passport with you.

We take the passports with us in other countries. But for US Territories (Puerto Rico, USVI, Key West) usually just the Sign and Sail Card and Driver's License. Maybe a Credit Card.

The passport is the document that the US Government provides to prove your identity as a US Citizen anywhere in the World. If you don't have it, the other countries MAY not believe that you are a US Citizen.

My feeling about taking a color photocopy of the passport with you, is the same as if you took a color photocopy of your cash to prove that you had cash in your safe.

The answer is, do what you feel comfortable doing.

Me and mine will continue to take it off the ship.
