  1. What's the big deal?

Miami Ft Lauderdale are far more dangerous than Roatan!

    Should RCCL boycott them?

Then consider Bayonne and Newark areas they make Roatan seem very safe!

What's the big deal? The big deal is Honduras is the murder capital of the world since 2010....the big deal is the state department has issued a warning traveling in this area back in December...the big deal is a young man was within steps of the ship and was gunned down over a cell phone....the big deal is I saw the pictures of the young man laying in the road bleeding out with about 50 people standing around gawking. For you to dismiss it as no big deal and to equate it to Fort Lauderdale....is actually kind of sad to tell you the truth. Source (cruiselawnews) (Tiempo local Honduras newspaper)

  2. I've been looking for crime rates in just Roatan but I'm not finding much.

You must not be looking very hard. A New York Times article this past January has a quote which states the island is quickly catching up to the mainland for crimes. I am not sure what your motive is for sugar coating the crime situation but the fact is there is a situation and one that must be resolved sooner rather than later for the safety of cruise passengers.

  3. I agree Victor Bodden tours do an excellent job. I used him twice. The Island is beautiful in several parts, not so much in others.

On part of one of his tours I was approached by a young man asking for some change, he quickly ran off when two military types showed up with automatic M16 type rifles. Being ex -military it really did not phase me at the time but viewing the picture posted yesterday in the local Honduras newspaper of the poor young man laying uncovered in his own pool of blood, sunglasses still on his head, knowing he was just innocently walking to a free wifi spot to call his family during the short work break....it kind of is a reality check and has me upset. Seems this place has been in the news for several months now for crime against passengers and heads have been turned the other way. Hopefully NCL chooses another port for its western route until assurances can be met.

  4. While many of you are chiming in with the old "it can happen anywhere bit...maybe you do a little research before you speak. Try going to Cruise law news and you will find the U.S. State Department issued a warning that the murder rate in Honduras is the highest in the world. IMO all cruiselines should cease going there immediately or at a minimum forbid exit from the port gated area.

  5. Embarkation was a bit crummy but was what I expected. It took us about 90 minutes to board. What do you expect when 3,000 people are boarding?

Sent from my SGH-I747M using Forums mobile app

I certainly do not expect 90 minutes to board, nor do I expect 30 minutes to board. Typically boarding takes about 10-15 minutes on most cruiselines. Glad you enjoyed your first cruise.

  6. Well said BUT:

THE SHIP WILL HAVE A SPECIAL WASTE BASKET BY THE DOOR SO YOU CAN GET IT OPEN' date=' TOSS THE CLEAN TOWEL INTO THE GARBAGE CAN AND GET YOURSELF OUT THE DOOR.[/quote']

There is nothing "special" about the wastebasket. It is regular size, the same seen throughout the ship.

  7. thanks y'all!

I guess I was just curious what the sitter actually does in the room if the kids are asleep. I don't think that would work for our family only because I know my 3 yr old won't go to sleep like that. We may not be doing much late night stuff... not sure if she can hang with the 10:00 pm to 2:00 am crowd. i'm afraid she would be so irritable getting to bed that late..

oh well, we'll figure it out

If you say they must stay in the room, they do just that, watch tv or read a book while your child sleeps. If you say they can leave the cabin and stroll the child around they will do that. I highly recommend you do not allow this. I was walking down the promenade and saw my stroller with child unattended while the sitter was busy shopping.

  8. WOW REALLY

You think RCCL is that superior

im thinking more of Walmart vs Target. Hyundai vs Toyota

They are both mass market cruiselines with positives

To the OP most cruisers on RCCL arnt as pompous as some posters appear to be

Read any travel publication and see the rankings for yourself. Carnival does not even make the front page. On the other hand RCCL/Celebrity and Disney run away with the awards.

  9. Actually you do get what you pay for. One of the best cruises I have ever been on was on the Majesty's sister ship the Monarch. She will always be my favorite. Every crew member was wonderful and it was so relaxing. Bigger is not always better, it depends on what you want in a particular cruise.

Since you quoted me, I am not sure where you found me using the description "bigger"? It has nothing to do with my point.

  10. This surely can not be a serious question. In the event it is. Royal Caribbean can not be used in the same sentence as Carny. New ship versus New ship--- Carnival Breeze versus Allure of the Seas. It is not even close. Royal Caribbean is vastly superior. It's like comparing a single orange to an orange grove. K mart versus Saks 5th Avenue. Mercedes versus Hyundai. As for the older ships... who really cares, except for the fact a Voyager class versus its counterpart one of the (shuns) is virtually the same contest as above.

If you are going on Majesty or one of the Visions.....eh.....you get what you pay for. Possibly the newest Carnival could compete with the oldest RCCL (Majesty) but it would be a draw in my opinion. Next question.....

  11. Nice Review. I was on the same sailing. Not exactly the warmest of weather but the Seas were smooth and the sun was shining. Glad you had a good time. I hate to nitpick but just so others do not jump for joy, the claws the OP spoke of were not lobster but instead Jonah crab. Either way an upscale treat from the buffett compared to other lines.

  12. I boarded the Breakaway in Port Canaveral on December 3rd for a tour. I asked the question about boarding in PC and returning in PC and the answer was the one I gave above. They will allow international passengers now and will be making a decision on whether to let all passengers book the trip from PC. I also do agree with the poster Coscab. A few months ago on the NCL site for a brief time one was able to book this cruise leaving from PC. Hopefully they get it figured out and make it happen soon.

  13. An article yesterday was posted in Florida Today (local newspaper for Port Canaveral area) and it said the Breakaway will now be allowing foreign passengers only to embark in Port Canaveral, do the full 7 day cruise with stops in NYC and Bahamas and then disembark back in PC. Initiallyit will be a test to see how it goes. If all goes well they will then open it up to all passengers.

  14. It may be the one with the ramp that extends out for the zipliners. My room was directly across from this. While I do not think the room is actually obstructed, I would never book that cabin as screaming people are flying in the air day and night and they look like they are going straight into your cabin before hitting the ramp. I guess Depending upon how big the person on the zipline is that particular balcony could actually be totally obstructed for a second or two lol....

  15. I was on an NCL ship a couple years ago and they advertised the snowball Bingo jackpot to be a minimum 1000.00, my wife happen to win and they gave her 480.00...we didnt say anything, just happy to have won and kind of forgot all about it until the bingo director out of the blue called our cabin and said "hey sorry about the payout, the ad we ran in the daily was a misprint.....hmmm, at that point we felt we had been cheated lol.. why the hell is he calling us a day later? Anyways we were on vacation and I did not feel like getting crazy about it...so just we just moved on 480.00 richer.

  16. I have recently heard from family on the island that they are working towards opening up ports on the other side near Roosevelt Roads the old Navy Base. The east side of the island is very beautiful and a short distance to the rain forest, while only 35 miles from the airport. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
