  1. For those who are looking forward to DD, good for you. Hope you enjoy it.

    <snip>

I don't need to waste my money to see that DD isn't going to work for me just as you can say you are looking forward to DD. One size doesn't fit all.

For me sailing solo, I look forward to traditional dining with an awaiting assigned table with the same tablemates and waitstaff every night. This is an automatic icebreaker. You quickly get beyond the where you from and what do you do stage and actually have meaningful conversation. You look forward to meeting again the next night (for the most part) and ask each other about how your day went and activities you did, etc.

As for alternatives to traditional dining for solos, nothing compares or even comes close to being a suitable substitute. So let's not go there.

ChipLondon, I haven't sailed Oasis yet (next month), but I can see how DD would work on that ship with all the specialty restaurants. Hope the DD experience is a good one for you, and look forward to your review of the experience as well as the menu items in the future.

    Hello,

When it comes to holidays, there is only little me. Well, OK maybe the 'little' is wide of the mark, but the 'only me' is true.

I am not looking forward to DD for the same reasons as TM38Rob. But even before I get to a DD table, I can see myself being asked every night by the Maitre D' "Would you mind sharing?" unless someone takes pitty on me like some lost little fury animal and a temporary union is formed. I like the arrangement with RCI where, with one exception, I am usually on a large table and able to build a rapport with the others over the length of the cruise. If I have to start afresh every night, I can draw up the list of the same questions I'll be asked every night.

If DD is on the Allure next May I may stick to the Windjammer and come out of the shadows for two formal nights in the Grande Restaurant.

    Regards,

  2. I'm on the edge now because of the Dynamic Dining Disaster. One more change may just push me to cancel. We have cruised on the Explorer with no Diamond Club, paying for drinks, and hated it because we felt like second class diamonds. For years RCI has felt Explorer was the best they can do out of NJ. To bring in another ship, a new one at that, without a Diamond Club would be a slap in the face.

Unfortunately if the unthinkable does become reality it will probably be after final payment.

    Hello,

I may have missed the point, but I have a deck plan of Quantum and a Diamond Club is shown fwd on Deck 4 starboard.

    Regards,

  3. Hi Cublet!

I see you are from Bristol! My Mum was born in the Bedminster part of Bristol and most of my family live there!! I'll be skyping with my Auntie and cousins in Fishponds in a little while!!!

    Cheryl

    Hello,

Bedminster used to be separate from Bristol and called Bedminster Town (as is still the local football club). The wealthiest family in England, the Canynges (pronounced Canning), in the 15thC came from there.

  4. We've sailed on the Adventure many times and she does not have a dedicated D lounge, but we were able to get drinks I believe at the 19th hole by the Viking Lounge. Initially no beer or liquor unless you paid for it at a discount. However, the 2 most recent cruises in '12 & '13 beer & wine was flowing. I can't believe that RCL did not have a similar set-up for the Explorer.

    Hello,

No, the Adventure does now have a Diamond Club in the same place as the Independence - off the Viking Crown Lounge and what was 19th Hole.

  5. Hi

We're sailing on Indy in October this year and haven't had an e mail either  (we're from the uk)

    Hello,

I am on the Adventure in October and have not heard anything.

However, if I was running the show, I would not bother to send out or even apply the policy IF the number of D, D+, P and suite guests could be accommodated comfortably. Notifications may be being sent out with 'payment due' reminders and I've a month to go yet.

    Regards,

  6. I do not believe that there was in March when I was on the Explorer and there was a trial of this then.

But why would there be? They are giving you three drinks OF ANY KIND (on the approved list). It is a MUCH IMPROVED benefit, compared to the so-called Diamond Event.

And the Explorer most certainly DOES have a Concierge Lounge. Deck 9, between the aft elevators.

    Hello Merion Mom,

I hope you are well? Are you coming this side of the pond in the near future?

My experience of the Diamond cocktail service on board the Adventure last month was that the overflow lounge (Cloud Nine and Seven Hearts) was costing RCI a fortune as entry/entitlement was not being policed.

A number of people were collecting drinks in the Diamond Club and then sitting in the Viking Crown lounge.

In general, there were sufficient sitting places in the Concierge Club before dinner and in the Diamond Club after dinner.

    Best wishes,

    Cublet

  7. Same place they keep the clotted cream things.:p

    Hello,

It's the picture of Adam Goldstein pushing a trolley with 2000 electric kettles around a Walmart store I cannot imagine.:D

I've yet to experience 'real' clotted cream on RCI - not even Cunard manage it! Anyone coming to Europe (Madeira - Portugal) should take Afternoon Tea at Reid's Hotel but not on a RCI excursion.

  8. Hi,

Going on AOS in 2 weeks for first cruise, does anyone know if you get a kettle in the cabin? Have a superior balcony on deck 10,

Are you allowed to bring travel kettle or would steward get you one from ship stock?

Tbh this will make the difference between buying a drinks package or not if I can bring my green tea and coffee on board for morning/night.

    Thanks,

    Dalcross

    Hello,

All cabins on ships out of UK ports have kettles.
