  1. Glad you had a lovely cruise Stevio, great report. We are so glad we went on the IE earlier in the year, we thought it was a great ship and loved everything about her, even the bit of a noisy cabin we had but as we only booked two days before we were due to go we had to have what was given. Can't wait to travel on the old dear again, we thoroughly enjoyed the cruise.

  2. Absolutely nothing to do with cruising and for that I apologise, but I do know what a friendly lot you are here on the Thomson board so thought I'd ask my question here.

I've just read a book set in the north of England and there is mention of making a Window Pie. I've never heard of it and can't find it on the internet. Has anyone here ever heard of it and can tell me what it is please?

Maybe they'll do it on one of our cruises so we can all have a taste!! :D

I don't know if this is correct but I read somewhere that window pie is so called because back in time when a pie was made, due to no refrigeration, it was put in a window to cool off. I do not know when your book was set but if its a period story I suppose this would make some sense.

    Hope you find out.

  3. I did this trip in April Molly. I enjoyed it but my husband got a bit of travel sickness as the drive up the mountains is very steep and twisty turny! That little village that was mentioned Pamp,,,something is lovely and some nice shops to mooch around in but you don't get much time up there before moving on to the next place,,where you don't get any time at all but are marched from one end of the village to the other. It's a nice little trip out but could possibly do with being a bit longer to allow more time to just savour the sheer beauty of the area.

Thank you Cappers very interesting info, I might now have another look at what's available but torn because of how lovely the trip looks. Decisions, decisions I love this bit when you are deciding what to do so much to look forward to.

    Thanks again

  4. I found this Kindle freebie if anyone is going to Barcelona. It's only a small book but gives handy hints on scams in the city. You can put it on your Kindle or the Kindle app on your phone or tablets.

  5. Not been on the tour but a trip to the Alpujarras is a frequent day out for us. Stunning country scenery. Pampaniera village is touristy - lots of craft shops - but interesting.

Thank you campolady, it looks and sounds lovely, think this will be the trip for me.

Hope all goes well with you and hubby in the future and hope you will soon be able to make your move.

    Thanks again

  6. As some people on here know, Hubby has poor health. Well, this is deteriorating and we have finally decided that, much as we absolutely love our life here in inland Andalucía, we have to move to the coast where we are on bus routes as it doesn' t look as though Ians driving licence will be renewed next time and I don't drive.

House has today gone on the market (with the state of the property market here we will probably be still trying to sell in 5 years time!) and our road trip next week is going to be a potential re-location search rather than a holiday.

I know that I am being stupid, but I feel totally gutted and sometimes it is easier to offload emotions to relative strangers as on here than to people closer to home.

Sorry to be such a misery but, please, wish us luck as we need it in bucketfulls!

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Sending you tons of hugs and hope all goes well for you and hubby in the future and, as I'm sure you will, find your new home.

  7. I seem to think that I have read somewhere that the IE has created another restaurant ............. I was curious , Is it another regular buffet, or an a la carte ............. is it a book and pay option,,, and if so has the original a la carte restaurant which you paid for been removed ???

Thanking you in advance for your info :)

Are you thinking about the Black Rock Grill. It was set up, I believe, by the Beachcomber Restaurant but you checked availability during the day at the entrance of the Island Restaurant. From what I understood it was a grill the food yourself kind of thing but the people we talked to briefly about it seemed to have really enjoyed it. I believe they had had lobster, I'm not sure what other food you could have and I'm not sure how much it costs, although, I seem to remember seeing around £15.

Perhaps next time we will try it.

  8. I think they are calling their itinerary that goes to Gibraltar something different next year so the Souks & Sangria of their 2014 brochure that runs out in April may be still there but called something else in the new one... Did read the details somewhere but can't find it now, probably on Sailaway's blog ..... Annoyingly their downloadable brochure has yet to be updated so no help there either.....Anyway, personally looking forward to the Sangria bit much more than the Souks. :D

Yes Stevio it looks like Souks and Sangria is now Tapas and Tagines. Apparently, if I got it right, a Tagine seems to be a historical Berber dish from North Africa that is named after the type of earthenware dish in which it is cooked. No disrespect to the Berber dish but I think I would rather stick with the Sangria as well. (hic)

  9. I see there are a couple of new itineraries for 2015, it will be interesting to see where these will be and there only seems to be one souks and sangria on the 7 April and no more during the year.

Will no doubt find all this out with new brochure, does anyone know if it comes out tomorrow, 24th April, please.

It looks like the internet has answered my questions but still like to see it in a brochure.

  11. We book at various times could be a few month's before, like the Dream in September, however, the last one we went on we booked on late Sunday afternoon and went on the Tuesday, which is no doubt what we will do in the future, if the price is right. We can only do this because luckily we are now retired and the plan is to get all cruising gear together in the wardrobe and then just pack. Mind you, as we know, plans can sometimes go adrift, but hey we are always hopeful.:)

  12. What's a cootie team, would rather watch a footie team :D

Did wonder what you meant Rebel Rouser but did not like to ask. I did google the word but could only find the cootie's which are apparently a team that take part in an American boat race, if my memory serves me correctly. Anyway I hope the football team you wanted to win did win. Have a fabulous time.

  13. Hi mollythedolly, really pleased you had a great time and yes the secret is getting out well and truly, our cases are just about packed ready for the drive and stay tomorrow night at stansted airport. Just need to watch my cootie team play 1st.

    Hello Rebel Rouser

Have a lovely holiday. She certainly is a friendly ship and can't wait for our next cruise on her.

    Mollythedolly

  14. Just come back from a cruise on the Island Escape and must say what a fantastic time we had. She may be well worn but kept spotlessly clean with such friendly crew and passengers. We had a fabulous time and will definitely be travelling on her again. Sorry Rebel Rouser the secret is out, no wonder she is so well loved.

    Mollythedolly:)

  15. I love the chocolates and the animals and even though I think I will keep my chocolates and eat them in one big chocolate frenzy on the last night of the cruise I never do, I always have them on the night, even more calories to "burn off" when I get home.

  16. Have a brilliant time Molly.

Like you, we booked a last minuter (3 weeks rather than 2 days) last month and go on Thursday. We too are going on the Dream later in the year but decided this was too good an offer to miss.

We haven't been on the Island Escape but I keep looking at it as sesm such good value so would love to hear your opinion when you return.

    Bon voyage!

Thank you all for your kind replies.

I must say campolady we loved every minute of this cruise. The ship is well worn but kept spotlessly clean and everyone was so friendly and joined in. We would definitely book to go on it again, at the right price, but this time possibly in time to select a cabin mid-ship on a lower deck, we were on deck 7 and because we were only two days from going we had to have what was going but hey for under £800 all inclusive for two we did not mind this. I think we would also book outside of any school holidays, not that we dislike children, but it might be slightly more manic on board as the ship is not as big as others but that's just our opinion. It's has a great afternoon tea and a 24/7 buffet, all meals are self service.

Now looking forward to the Dream later in the year.:)

  17. So glad everything has worked out OK. Where are you going?

Thank you campolady, we are going on Spirit of the Med on the Island Escape, it was one of those see it on Sunday and go on Tuesday affairs.

Not been on this ship before but it was such a good deal thought the weather must be slightly better than what we are having here. Off on the Dream again later in the year but that seemed so far away:(

    Molly

  18. Thank you all for your comments, I am pleased to say emergency is over but was a close thing, cruise is on and it did seem we would have had to pay 100% cancellation fee, it could not even be transferred to another cruise.

Will be glad to get on board and raise a glass.

    Molly

  19. It isn't adults only all year just some. Also want to know what an adult is. You have to pay adult fare at 12 so hope there are no double standards!

According to Thomson to go on an adult only cruise the person will have be 17 and above. This was in a reply from Thomson on f/b unless I've misunderstood:confused:

  20. The short answer "yes" I highly recommend, we went on the first week and enjoyed it that much we went again on the second week
