  1. Happy Friday Tribe! Finally headed home, it’s been a very long month. We decided to Drive Tim’s Dads truck(7 hours)home instead of shipping it. It’s all me since he can’t drive.  Lots of memories to talk about. Plus all his Dads old school CDs. It’ll be an experience. MIL still holding on but sadly not for long.  We got the house listed with the same realtor who sold our house when we moved to Reno. So, we expect we’ll be back within a month but we have to go home even for a short time. Thanks to my Tribe for all the love and prayers ❤️🙏

So without getting into it and going on and on with the details, which I just don’t have the bandwidth to do right now, after three days of increasingly good news and nothing but positive prognoses, my Dad took a hard turn yesterday and we lost him. I know it’s the natural order of things and I know he lived a full life of 80 years, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say it hurts like hell. I have a lot of questions about what happened in the final days at that hospital, but there’s no sense in looking back and right now I’m helping my mom get everything together and in the right direction. We’ve already made a lot of progress, and luckily he would absolutely kill us if we had some big memorial service for him, so that’s made the process simpler.

I knew it would be this way, and to say I have mixed emotions is a gross understatement, but Mom is insisting it is utterly non negotiable for me to go on my cruise next week. I understand there’s nothing more I can do here by that point and that she’s incredibly strong and independent and surrounded by friends and family, so I’ll go, but I don’t know quite what the experience will be like. My Dad was from Cuba, he loved the sea immensely, and he’s the reason I got into cruising as a 9 year old disappointed we weren’t going to Disney World when he booked us on the Celebration in 1988. So I’m going to do it, after this week I’ll need it, and even if it ends up being a disaster, I’m gonna try.

I’ll mention this eventually on my Live, but I’m gonna try to proceed as normally as possible over there for my own sanity and distraction. But for y’all, I wanted to share what’s really going on.

So this one’s for the best “Dastardly” in the history of John Heald’s Bedtime Story, and the best dad a kid could ever have.

Oh, and if you wonder what kinda guy the old man was, this is the folder he left behind for mom and I with finance and insurance info….

So very sorry for your loss. I know what you’re feeling. We lost my Father in Law last Tuesday. Mother in Law is declining rapidly. Like your Dad they were very organized and left everything in order. My Husband has Co Power of Attorney along with his Step Sister. So it’s made it easy to get service scheduled, pay bills etc. My Husband had a very rough time. Service is this Friday🙏. We’ll most likely head back to Reno Monday. We’re driving back, his Dad left him his truck. Stopping half way. 7 hours is too much for me since he can’t drive due to his Macular Degeneration.  Remember all the happy times. That’s what we’ve been doing.

  3. My Tribe I need your prayers 🙏. My Father in Law has been suffering with dementia for 10 years. My Mother in Law has been caring for him on her own. He’s 89 and she’s 86. Yesterday she collapsed, my brother in law found her. Drs found cancer in her bladder. We’re on our way to Vegas now.

Well, we are all different creatures, aren’t we. I love grocery shopping. One of my favorite things to do while traveling is visiting a grocery store.

Me too! It’s relaxing to me.

Celebrating Cinco de Mayo with my favorite Tequilla on the lawn, and will be making tacos in a few for dinner. I’ve got some yummy pico and guac ready, I’m excited. I adore Mexican food.

Same here except not on the lawn, it’s 50 degrees and windy! Still going to grill some carne asada, fresh salsa I learned to make in Cabo and guacamole.

What a fun night! We were under a tornado warning for over 2 hours. At one point, there were two tornados within 20 minutes from my house. With the closes being a “dangerous, violent tornado” 10ish miles away. It was observed to be a half mile wide and then rain wrapped. It was headed for Chattanooga, I can see Chatty from my house, but then hooked north and back west and dissipated. We were sheltered for an hour because it was moving at 10 mph. Slowest. Tornado. Ever. Winds at 160 mph.

    🙏

My gram is 97 and she's been the only one left of the combined 15 siblings of hers & my grandpas for.. gosh, I don't know, at least 10-15 years now. It's so nice that your mom still has your aunt.

Same here, my FIL just turned 90. Last of 15, been suffering with dementia for 10 years. My DH is the last of his 3 sons. It’s so hard but all we can do is be here ❤️

No, it’s everyone. The cruise line sends a passenger manifest to homeland security and that gets the if you have a warrant ball rolling.

Got it, I’m not worried just curious 🤨

FYI for everyone, the feds are cracking down, if you owe back taxes, don’t plan to sail. You will be on the “do not sail” list.

Only if you use a passport right? For cruises we just use DL and BC.

@RenoNanaOz do you have a certain wall Pilates program you do? I desperately need to get some exercise in my life because my desk job is not doing it for me.  Thanks!

I just looked at a few on YouTube, then just kind of winged it.

I’d be really happy to stop taking antihistamines. I’m still on Zyrtec, even after a steroid shot, and it totally zonks me. So weird that I can function on the Cheers package day after day, but one pill makes my body think it requires 10-12 hours of sleep. I tried yesterday to not take it, but I started itching again. I don’t even want to mention the amount of food I’ve consumed thanks to the steroid shot. 🤦🏼‍♀️ but the hives are gone. Gonna make chicken fried steak, squash, and macaroni for dinner tonight since I grabbed some great looking cubed steak at the grocery store. Hope everyone has a great Thursday.

Same! I take a Claritin and I’m in the fog for 12 hours. Cheers every day, party on. I’m making grilled bbq chicken thighs, Orzo with sautéed spinach, red pepper, garlic and Parmesan.  Finally have our spring weather, mid 70’s for the next few weeks. Starting park yoga Monday for the first time. I walk alot and do wall Pilates but very excited about this yoga.  Happy Thursday!

Double header in softball last night for my middle… pretty pleased with how she did. She’s been having a mental issue with how wild and fast some of these 10u girls are throwing. I get it. Some of these little girls are whipping it in there but have zero accuracy. In the games last night, 4 on our team got hit by pitches. They switched pitchers right before Lulu second at bat. She walked twice and had two singles hitting runs in. She’s playing 2nd and 3rd. They won 8-6 and 11-2.
Followed that up with two soccer games this morning… Lulu’s team won 7-0. Colton’s team won 3-0. I still hate soccer.  I actually took a nap for about 45 minutes and got some work in. Now to get ready for anniversary dinner and secretly watch the OU/texas softball game on ESPN at the same time. Remember when men would have to go to the bathroom 40 times to check scores at the bar of restaurants? So glad those days are gone. I’ll watch it on my phone in my lap. 😝😉

Our son played Baseball from 5 until he graduated high school.  Absolutely loved every minute of it. But, we only had the one athlete. Daughter, never an interest in playing sports.  Had to bribe her to come watch her little brother😂

    Have a wonderful Anniversary Dinner.

I don't mind you giving me advice! I look for that here. But I can tell you I have done research for several years now, part of which has been talking with homeowner friends. I do know it can be a lot of work. And thongs break down, so expenses without a maintenance department to see to. My sister is older than I am and lives in a house alone now (since her man passed last fall) and she is one of my biggest supporters in understanding I want this and agreeing with it for herself. She loves doing lawn work, so there is one difference, ha ha. She loves having a home SHE owns.

I have heard both sides. But this is something I really have wanted all my life. I expected it to happen all my life. I never expected it NOT to happen by now! Just as I never expected not to be able to have children. This I can do, though--I know there will be other expenses. We pay apartment insurance so yeah I know home insurance will be more.Property taxes here are very reasonable, less than you might think. Higher utility bills for a house--yup. But we won't have mortgage payments (like we have rent payments now, which increase every year), and we will have a strong investment for if/when the time comes we have to move to assisted living (or whatever).Yes, I agree, there is a lot to deal with owning a home, more than I can really know. But there also is a lot of emotional, psychological happiness and security and pride in having you own place. That you OWN.

What's the worst case scenario? It's too much to handle, we regret doing it? Then we sell it and rent and hope we can afford to pay ever-increasing rent until we die. Right?

Yes! It can be expensive but so rewarding. Good Luck!

Night number one sober is in the bag, and going for at least two more. I'm trying to figure out what my post colonoscopy meal is going to be Thursday afternoon. But first, I've gotta survive two more days at the 'ol salt mine.

Mine was a breakfast burrito from our favorite restaurant. Total bliss!

It was like my family read my post… in the family group text, my stuck up aunt invited “those that go to church on Sunday can come eat at our house”… crisis averted. I’ll gladly sleep in with my heathen, cruising ways.

Right there with you! Just the two of us this year for a change. Doing NYStrip, asparagus and scalloped potatoes. With a few Martinis in between 😉

Yall. I sit through a LOT of webinars, zooms, imeetings, etc. The worst thing, by far, is having to decipher an accent. I’ve also been know to sit on hold, and if a certain call center in India picks up, I’ll hang up and call again, hoping to get somewhere else. Something about that accent, I just can’t understand on straight audio… not enough exposure to it, I guess.

When I worked work Caesar’s Entertainment all of our help centers, engineers and support teams were in India.  Some very hard to understand. More than once I asked if we could go to IM. I agree @MeganGC1983 not enough exposure.
