  1. Probably almost all C&A members feel the same way. Still, airline elite frequent flyers get kicked back all the time if they stop flying for a while and there does not seem to be any outcry about it.

That's partly because the majority of people don't earn elite airline miles with their own money, it's business travel paid for by a company (or at the least a business expense). Hard to complain then.

  2.  Flawed statement regarding D+. There are quite a few D+ in their 40s and 50s - many cruising years ahead of us/them.

As for the OP, you know what they say about opinions.....Thanks for sharing yours.

Yep, Agreed! *waving hand* I'm one of them, along with my wife, and my 12yo DD (who is Diamond on her own, and D+ through us, but will get there soon enough on her own anyway). We're definitely not the only ones out there.

  3. My PRIORITIES were to get my husband (who ended up needing a wheel chair because he almost fell from all the walking) onto the ship and onto a bed so he could rest !!!!

For YOUR information, all of the computers were down and all check in information was being written manually (passport numbers, etc.) They couldn't/wouldn't send someone from the regular check in line over to the VIP lounge to get our S & S cards and told us we HAD to check in there.

We had the same problem with the parking (had to Park waaaay down in Lot C, and we were there at 10:40) I think the fact that no one got off the ship (first cruise out of drydock) meant there were no spaces being emptied out, they were all taken by other cruises in previous days.

The computers being down were a pain. Definitely slowed down the check-in process.

  4. To be perfectly honest, I forgot the Splendor had a retractable roof until you mentioned it. When I went outside on deck 3 I saw how windy it was and decided I didn't want to watch a movie in those conditions. They MAY have had the roof closed, but I didn't go up to check. Between late dinners, the comedy shows, casino and early morning excursions, it didn't leave me a lot of time to watch a movie anyway :) I'm sure you'll be fine.

I was on the same cruise and went up when they had Spectre showing, and the roof was closed. What that meant is every sound in the pool, or people talking, was amplified and echoed so much that you could only hear every other word or so. Much too noisy with the roof closed. All 3 of us watching gave up at one point or another after 15-20 minutes.

  5. Our daughter (12) is D+ based on our status, and would be D on her own. She may be D+ on her own by the time she turns 18, except we only sail RCCL maybe half the time. The rest we split over other lines, and also sail without her maybe 1/4 of the time.

I believe the last lines in the official document mean that if, for some reason, they aquire a higher tier because of parents after they turn 18 because it wasn't noticed they were 18. That it will then revert back to the status they had when they were 18. (So if you turn D+ when your child is 20, but not noticed by RCCL at the time, they can retroactively put them back to D as they were at 18).

  6. Hi there,

Can anyone confirm, who has recently cruised with the Splendor, after her dry dock, if the Hub App is alive and well on the ship?

We aren't going until June, but it's something we've been discussing over the last couple of weeks and can't seem to find any concrete information on it.

    Thanks in advance!

Was on Splendor last week, first cruise out of drydock. No HUB app. Still said "Coming Soon"

  7. received this email today from RCL and wanted to share:

To support World Wildlife Fund's water

    conservation initiatives, robes for

Platinum guests and above will now

    be available upon request.

May be old news for most but I just saw this today. I am sure if you are booked into a suite cabin the bathrobes are included as a suite guest perk. But for standard cabins this may be new and something to keep in mind when packing.

We will be first time RCL cruisers for our Allure cruise July 2016 (very excited!). We have an Ocean View Balcony reserved and I do like to lounge around in my bathrobe so I will be packing my own for sure.

I can't think of the last time we've had the robes in our room when we walked in. We've always had to ask for them (or the steward asked us if we wanted them when we met him/her). I rarely use one, but my wife and daughter like them.

  8. Oh my goodness -- if there is no ticket system that would be a disaster for this size ship...and my plans, lol

Much like another posted said, it's likely that people who booked RCCL excursions will get priority for the tenders. (It's one of the benefits to booking through the line I guess). We stopped at Belize on our Carnival Splendor cruise last week, and it took a loooong time to go through the tender process. We had the same hours (8am-5pm) and it was past 11 before they announced the final ticket numbers and had it be general boarding for tenders. So try to be there early, whether or not they're giving out tender tickets. It's a pretty long trip, they can't anchor too close to land because of the coral reefs, so you got like a 30 minute tender ride.

Our last official tender return time was 4:15, but like also mentioned earlier, they generally wait on that last one if they can.

  9. I am also posting this on both boards to get a good opinion!

    Hey guys!

This will be our 11th cruise, the past have been with NCL, Disney, Princess, and Celebrity. We are looking at 2 cruises, both 5 days, with the information below:

    RCCL Empress: Miami - Cozumel-Cozumel-Miami

Carnival Triumph: Nola - Cozumel-Progresso- Nola

So obviously, the Triumph will be the larger ship, nearly double the size of the Empress, with more activities I'm sure of, as well as a new port in Progresso, and I would love to cruise out of Nola.

The perks of the Empress are I believe will be the size, with better service and food due to the size of the ship. I also love the idea of spending time 2 days in one port, and Cozumel there is a lot to do.

Would love to know your thoughts! I would eventually like to try both lines, and see what you think about both of these! Carnival is slightly cheaper, but pricing is not a problem.

    Thanks guys!

Empress was just brought back to the fleet, and really it seems clear it's geared to eventually do smaller runs and take in a spot like "Fathom" is and do Cuba runs.

It's a much older (yes, it's been updated a bit, but it's still an older ship) and smaller ship, and the cabins are going to be much smaller then you are used to. Think of it like the fantasy class, but even smaller with much tinier rooms.

So long as you're not expecting it to look like the RCCL commercials, it should be a relaxing ship to be on.

  10. So funny because we were on sunshine in December and it was the LEAST crowded ship I've ever been on. Loved it,only waited in a short line for omelettes in the morning and at night for comedy. Maybe it depends on the time of year you go, so don't completely rule it out!!!

Well, based on the times of your cruises, I would say time of year would definitely be a factor. Early December is one of the least cruised times of the year (as very few people take off right before the holidays). All your other cruises were around spring break time, which is generally sold out.

  11. What I don't understand is why Carnival gets stuck at the worst docking position. I thought I remember hearing/reading that Carnival built this dock. We were on the 3/20 Splendor cruise that missed docking and it was disappointing. We've been there twice before on Carnival and never had an issue.

I don't think it was built by Carnival. It was created back in 2001 by a developer and we docked there in 2002 on a RCCL ship (back when there was basically nothing there but a few huts and a pool).

  12. The AC was fine by later that day. As for Costa Maya, the captain said it was strong currents and winds of 30knots. There were 2 ships in port already but they were smaller and we had to go around them to dock. Can't blame them on that, it's a rocky bottom port too. We had morning service only. We got towel animals in the morning, nothing in the evening. They would leave the next day's fun times in the little "mailbox" outside the door. One morning our daughter slept in and they told us to call when we wanted the service done. Was a bit of a pain not having evening service, especially if you took showers in the afternoon.

  13. By the way we had an electrical issue on the ship at 5am. A couple of cabins had smoke in them from what was called a short circuit in an electrical panel. They made multiple announcements in everyone ones cabins at 5am. Closed watertight doors, explained the situation, told people affected not to go back to cabins. AC currently out on decks 1 & 2 as of noon.

  14. We are on day 5 of the cruise now so figured I'd get the Internet and give an update. No American Table, we have the old menus with the didja items. Food is pretty good overall, best food is the Tandoor station. We have only had one production show in the 5 days, the 80s one, seems like playlist production (4 guys, 4 girls, both sing and dance). Otherwise it has just been the "welcome show" which was more like a shopping commercial, a hypnotist, a magician, and the love & marriage show for main entertainment. Crew does try hard though. We were only given option to do either morning or evening cabin service, we're not allowed to have both. Crew are friendly and helpful overall, no complaints on them.

  15. I just boarded the splendor today in Miami. They were definitely enforcing the check in times. They had a pretty good line at 11am of people just waiting to get in the building. On a good note checkin was easy. On a bad note there was once again no room for parking and had to park in a car garage, and boarding was sloooow, we waited over an hour just for zone 4 to board

  16. Our cabin looks nice except rust outside that is noticeable. One new and one old chair on balcony. Cabin linens look good, was really surprised how beat up the decor in Lido was. We were trying to figure out if it was supposed to look that way :).
