    Insider tips:

Keep trying for sold out shore excursions. People change their minds and, given the demographic, people cancel at the last minute. Try again when you board the ship.

Be patient. Viking will not inform anyone of changes in availability so you do have to keep checking for openings on MVJ.  All advanced booking (shorex, spa, restaurants) will close 7 days prior to sailing.

How does one check for new available times on a booked, included excursion? I have a time booked and confirmed but don’t care for it and would like to watch for another choice to open up. The system on myvikingjourney doesn’t appear to allow you to see the other times without first canceling the existing excursion booking. Any tips or is there something I’m missing?

    Thank you!

  2. If you have booked your first Seabourn cruise and are sailing before Nov 7, 2023, I can supply you with a referral that gives you and me, each, $250 on board credit. Its a simple process - just e-mail me at thughes 400 at Comcast dot net. All I will need is your name and booking number, which I then submit to Seabourn, along with my name and booking number, to receive the on board credit. More info here … https://www.seabourn.com/en_US/refer-a-friend.html

I look forward to hearing from you!

  4. Thanks for all your comments! We are embarking at Galataport in Istanbul. I just learned that our hotel checkout is actually 12pm. If we can’t board when we arrive, we hope to be able to hand off our luggage to the porters and head off to explore Istanbul a bit more, until check in time!

  5. We sail on the Encore 2 weeks from today. Our boarding pass is available, as well as our final documents, but our boarding time on both indicates “to be assigned.” Any thoughts on if/when/how we will be notified of our boarding time? I’m not too worried and, due to our hotel checkout time, I suspect we’d arrive around 11:30am or so anyway. From above replies, it sounds like our timing won’t be a problem.

Does anyone know if I am still considered a first-time cruiser if I had booked in October 2020 and used a referral coupon on that booking? Obviously I never went on that cruise.

    Hi Lisa,

I don’t know for sure, but it seems if you haven’t actually cruised, then you are still considered a new passenger to Seabourn. If your cruise is before Apr 30, 2023, email your name and booking number to me at t hughes 400 at Comcast dot net, and I will submit it, then we’ll see what happens.

Same with us Tammy. Curious to know what people find. So looking forward to this one.

We were (are?) looking forward to it, too. The TP arriving on Sept 30, does us no good without a cruise immediately following. Wondering where the ship is going in between its TP arrival on Sept 30 and the next cruise out of Tokyo on Nov 5.

Cruisegopher, thanks for the info. Really appreciate your insight!

If they’re canceling, etc, sure wish they’d let booked passengers know asap so other plans can be made!

  8. We are booked on B2B in 2023 for the Sept 15 Transpacific from Vancouver to Tokyo and the Sept 30 Best of Japan. The Transpacific is still listed on Celebrity’s website, but the Sept 30 cruise has disappeared from celebrity website, along with all other Oct Japan cruise that followed. Our Sept 30 booking is still active and there are bootable shore excursions .
Nov 5 is the next cruise shown for Milennium, following the transpacific, for the Best of Southern Japan. Something definitely seems to be up!

Cruisegohper, what can you see Oct 2023? And what does it mean when a cruise is “closed”?

    Thanks!

    Tammy

  9. Hi Everyone!
Hubby and I are new silver level cruisers, and one of us has chosen the 10% discount on shore excursions benefit. I filled out the form under our booking to indicate this, but when I go to pre-book an excursion, the discount is not reflected in the total. The wording of the benefit sounds as though it can be used when pre-booking an excursion before the cruise, so I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Anyone know?

Thanks so much for your insight!

Thank you for following along.  Maybe we’ll run into each on the next cruise.  😊

The folks on the Roll Call for this sailing plan to meet at Sunset Bar at 4:30 when we sail away from Civitavecchia. Join us! I will have a green bamboo straw in my drink. I look forward to following along here on your cruise 1, and maybe we’ll meet on your cruise 2!

Cheers, happy birthday,  and happy cruising!

  11. Hi Everyone!

Silversea, in my opinion, could easily make this so much less confusing by stating the number of days in their pre-boarding testing information instead of hours.

I got a very un-clear answer from my TA who, after speaking with Silversea, repeated the already confusing 48/72 hour information and didn't address the fact that I don't know what time we will be taken to the ship for boarding or the question of the 3-hour time difference.  So, I called Silversea myself and was told (wish I had this in writing) that it was 2 days and 3 days instead of 48/72 hours and to get as close to boarding time as possible.
So that's what we did. Fingers crossed that "as close as possible" is good enough.

Kimanjo, I appreciate the info you posted previously. We have plenty of tests just in case and to get back into the US if Silversea does not provide end-of-cruise testing (which I am also getting inconsistent information on!). I like that we can buy a less expensive self-test and only pay for the proctoring if it's needed. Thank you!

  12. Hi Everyone!
Getting ready to sail next week for our first Silversea cruise!
I am setting up our covid test appointments and am curious about the 72 and 48 hr pre-cruise testing requirements. Since our pre-hotel and transfers are being handled by Silversea, we don't know what time we board, making it difficult to determine the correct time for the test. Also, do we need to account for the 3 hour time difference between where we live and where we board in Anchorage? How picky are Silversea with regard to the actual number of hours between testing and boarding?
Thanks so much for sharing your insights and experiences!

    FLOWFLEX

You can get these at CVS, Walgreens, Publix, Target. Go on those WEB sites and put in Flowflex, You will see who has them in your area. Ours were 7.99 each. You have the option to have it "proctored" for 20$. It's inside the package or on Azova.com.

In February DH and I became full time Nomads.  We did our first FLOWFLEX the day of our evening International departure out of the US to Buenos Aires.  Was super easy.

We brought 8 of them with us. You can pick a time  24 hours a day to have one proctored. Its very convenient.  You set up appointments on their APP/Website.  You use your phones camera.  We will always travel with proctorable tests.

You do NOT want an antibody test.  You want Rapid/Antigen test.

This is such great information! Thank you for sharing!

I want to join the chorus of those thanking @bnurickfor these on board reports. My DW and I are booked on the Aug. 28 Edge (after having three other cruises cancelled on us since fall, 2020) and each post gives us more optimism that we will have that moment, just after clearing the gangway, of peace bliss in just about eight weeks. I hope that last couple days prove as enjoyable -- again, thank you.

Also joining in on the chorus of thanks!

We’d resigned ourselves to waiting until our next booked cruise in January, never considering we’d feel comfortable cruising any sooner. But … your posts, which have provided an “inside peek” at what these early cruises will be like, have us inspired (as well as impressed with how celebrity is doing things), that we have our sights on Edge for Aug 28, trying a suite for the first time, to celebrate our 28th anniversary! Our 28th on the 28th! A sign for sure!
So, thanks for all the time you’ve taken from your holiday, to share so much information!

  15. This is such a great topic and appreciate all the info provided. DH and I are recently retired and, a couple of years pre covid, we’d purchased one of the few comprehensive annual policies at a pretty high price. Now that overseas travel is opening up, along with all of you, we’ve got lots of making up to do! So we’re exploring other insurance coverage options and wonder, for many of you who have mentioned using an annual policy for medical and evacuation, how are you covered in the event of a cancellation/interruption?  A supplemental policy for each trip, credit card coverage (if so, which card), etc? Appreciate further feedback on annual policies!

Sounds like I may need to give Steve at The Trip Insurance store a call!

Edit to say: I didn’t see the last 2 posts before I posted this response. For sure, it depends on what you can afford to risk, but curious what you all are doing to cover cancellation/interruption when you need something more than medical and evacuation.

    Thanks!

You do realize at the silver level you each only get to choose one of the listed perks. You don't get them all. Granted you will each get to pick one, so a couple traveling together could get one bag of laundry and one internet package.

Same benefits as Seabourn Club Member, plus your choice of ONE of the following:

n 10% savings on Shore Excursions**

n 10% savings on premium wines & spirits

    n Complimentary internet – 2-hour Silver Package

    n Complimentary telephone – 20 minutes

n Seabourn Club Signature Massage n Day in the Spa Serene Area

n One complimentary bag of laundry

Thanks for pointing that out. Amazing the difference one missed word can make! 🧐 It will still be helpful, but I’m glad to know now that I misread it.

  17. Hi Everyone!

I emailed Seabourn Club and thought I’d report back on what they told me.

They said we would be able to take advantage of earned perks on the segment(s) after we reach the milestone. So, in our case, we’d be at level 1 (Member) after our first segment (13 days), and Silver after our second segment (9 days) is completed. We are to simply check in with the Seabourn Club rep on board a few days before and give them a heads up so they can contact corporate for approval and to make it happen.

When we reach the 3rd segment, some of the perks, especially the laundry and internet, will be very much appreciated!

    Tammy
