  1. We will be sailing to Antarctica on Seabourn Quest in November. In reading several trip reports from people who have been on this sailing within the last year or so, it has been reported that these Bogs boots are the boots that you get when you rent from Seabourn. And, as PerfectlyPerth mentioned, there is a removable insert in the boots.

Because we live in a cold climate and would have a further use for them, have space/weight in our luggage, and  the purchase price for us isn’t significantly more than the cost of the rental, we decided to buy them. I also have high arches and my orthotics fit in them nicely in them, although I found I needed a size larger to do so.

If you opt to rent them and the size you order doesn’t fit or work with your orthotic inserts, you can exchange for another size once on board.

    I hope this helps!

  2. Hello,

DH and I are booked on our first Seabourn cruise in Nov 2019. The cruise is a 43-day Cruise made up of 3 segments, but we booked it as 1 cruise.  I understand that club benefits are available upon completion of our first cruise, so “technically” we wouldn’t benefit from the perks at all during this voyage. I am wondering if, by chance, they will still recognize the segments as individual cruises and allow us to earn and use our benefits during the 2nd and 3rd legs.

Would love to to hear about your B2B Club Benefits experiences.

    Thank you!

Is there a way to know ahead of time when Formal Nights are?  We are on the Quest Nov 28 Sailing.  Thanks!  Jon

    Hi Jon,

Not answering your question, but just saying hi. Hubby and I will be on your cruise. Be sure to join us, and a few others, on the Roll Call!

Is 7352 bigger than standard balconies? It appears so on the ship layout, but wonder if that’s the reality.

I actually just found the answer on the S-class spreadsheet, which I totally forgot about. Anyway, despite what the ship layout shows, 7352 and 7303 are reported to have standard size balconies. 😏

  5. Thanks for the replies! We’ve made the booking and will hope, for the sake of simplicity, that both ships are on the same pier. Someone on our roll call said that this is the case. And an early bag drop on cruise 2 would be great to free us to go off and explore. Good to know about the HOHO bus stopping right at the pier!

    Thanks again!

  6. Hello,

We are considering back to back cruises that end and begin in Tokyo Yokohama port on the same day (Oct 11, 2020), but on two different ships - the first is a Transpacific from Vancouver to Tokyo on Celebrity Eclipse, followed by the Best of Japan cruise on Celebrity Millennium. The TP arrives a day before disembarkation day and overnights, so there is a 1-day pad in the event of late arrival.

With that, my question is for anyone who has done this ... can you offer a suggestion/info/etc for transferring to the second ship on disembarkation/embarkation day?

I’m thinking two possibilities... we disembark Eclipse as late as possible, catch a taxi to the Millennium and wait patiently for boarding time. Or, we hire a tour company to take us and our luggage somewhere sightseeing for a 1/2 or full day tour, beginning at one ship and ending at the other.

Thanks for any and all insights and info on this. I know it’s unlikely, but I’m a little nervous about the possibility of a late arrival into Tokyo causing us to miss our second ship.

    Hi Linda,

That’s great! See you on the roll call!

OK, so here is some more info from our November, 2018 Quest cruise:

Salaverry: Arrange a tour of Chan Chan, a pre-Incan archeological dig, a vast and fascinating site.  Avoid the tour of the fishing boats on the seaside.

Matarani:  Nothing there worth seeing.  We took an excursion to Arequipa, which was gorgeous, but it was a painful 3-hour bus ride each way through desolate desert landscape.  We saw a volcano explode in the distance.

So some wonderful experiences, but a lot of ho-hum.  We loved our time on the Quest and the fun we had with our fellow passengers.  This itinerary was of such limited interest that it was deeply discounted.  If fact the segment between Callao and Santiago was downright cheap and attracted a lot of Seabourn newbies.  No regrets;  we had a great time, but frankly, this is not the itinerary of a lifetime.  I hope my limited notes are helpful.

    TV24,

Thank you for your comments on the various ports. It’s been difficult to find much info, let alone many tour/sightseeing options  for some of the ports in this region. In addition to tours, we’re happy to walk off the ship and make our own discoveries, so we’ll figure it out and enjoy ourselves either way.

Regarding Salaverry and Matarini, did you use your ship for shore excursion or did you book with an independent company? If so, which one?

1 hour ago, Wendy The Wanderer said:

We did one of the temples in Salaverry plus a luncheon that included the specially-trained horses of the region.  It was pleasant.  We did stop at the beach to see the fishermen--these are the guys who traditionally make their boats out of reeds and kneel on them to go out and fish in the surf.

    Wendy,

Same question for your time in Salaverry. A ship excursion or independent and, if independent, what was the company?

Thanks to to both for your comments!

I see your AzAmazing Evening listed as Marseilles as well. But I don't any see further detail on the event. If I hear an update I'll post it for you.

    Hi Bonnie,

Our cruise is 20 days away. Any word yet on what, where and when for our Azamazing Evening? I’m shocked that there are no plans in place this close to the cruise.

    Thanks!

    Tammy

  10. Thanks for all helpful input! We have just booked the 43-day itinerary! We are so excited and can’t believe after many years of discussing and researching, and discussing it some more, we’ve finally booked! I’m both excited and nervous about such a length of time on a cruise (our longest is 21 days), but excited about all the great adventures to come along with it!

We started with five color groups which was then reduced to four - the order changes every day.  This means it's a matter of luck, really, regarding the conditions.  On Salisbury Plain in South Georgia, for instance, the first group went ashore and then all subsequent landings were cancelled. You never can tell down there.

Of course, Tammy, you do realise that traditional expedition ships usually offer two landings a day.  Because of its size, the Quest can only offer one as landings are  officially restricted to 100 people at any one time in Antarctica.

Thank you! And yes, I do realize that the trad exp ships do 2 landings. I’m weighing the pros and cons between them and The Quest. For us, for many different reasons, the Quest is winning. Time ashore was the one thing I’ve been struggling with though, but I think it’ll be ok. Many other things are outweighing that. And, the time lounging on the ship, enjoying a coffee or cocktail and the scenery sounds amazing, too!

It definitely seems most fair to alternate color groups and that’s what I was hoping for. That way one group isn’t always last and the only ones suffering the effects of cancelled landings. It’s definitely the luck of the draw and up to Mother Nature!

Thanks for all your feedback, I really appreciate it!

  12. Hi Fletcher and FLgemini,

Thank you so much for your reply. That makes me feel better since we’ve just emailed our TA to profess a booking for the 43-day Miami to Lima, Lima to San Antonio, San Antonio to Buenos Aires by way of Antarctica!

Excited? Yes!!! Lots of questions? Most definitely! I’ve got loads of reading to do!

Another question, if you don’t mind...

I know people are called to the zodiacs by color group. Does the order in which the color groups are called vary from day to day or if blue, for example, is first out, they are always first?

Ok, FLgemini, now I’m going to dive into your blog post.

    Thanks again!

    Tammy

  13. We are considering Seabourn’s 21 day Antarctica out of San Antonio, combined with the 2 previous cruises (Miami to Lima, then Lima to San Antonio).

Thank you to FLgemini for starting this post (so helpful!) and for your blog! Your blog looks to be a good read and I can wait to settle in to have a look!

SKP946 mentioned not being rushed on the landings and having 1-2 hours. In information from seabourn (video or written, I’m not sure) I recall them saying that each guest could expect 90 min on a landing. I worry that is already a bit too short for my taste, but the hour that was reported does indeed sound rushed. Can anyone elaborate on this? I understand that there is always the chance that the expected time can be shortened due to weather or sea conditions, but what is the general amount of time that we can reasonably expect on a landing or a zodiac ride?

And while on board when it’s not your turn for a landing or a zodiac ride, what is everyone generally doing? I’m expecting to soak up the scenery- it was interesting to read that the ship can’t anchor in Antarctica (makes sense), so even while on board, the scenery changes - listen to a lecture or something educational about the area.

TV24, you mentioned that your plans (2018) were for the very cruise(s) we are looking at for 2019. How did you feel about the length of time on board and the 3-cruise combination?

Thank you all for answering my questions!

Ah, yes. Marseilles. Just as was suggested by another and totally makes sense, as we are there overnight. Thank you! That’s great! It’s curious why it’s not yet listed, but good news, anyway. Hopefully Bonnie can find out what it is we’re doing there.

    Thanks for sharing that info!

    Hi All,

For anyone looking for this information, after a number of attempts to get an answer from several Azamara staff members, I finally received an email reply from Marie Nelson, Le Club Voyage.

Thank you for your email and I do apologize for the delayed response. Unfortunately we still do not have complete information on the Azamazing evening for the April 13sailing. I can tell you it will be in Provence (Marseille) and of course will be in the evening. We have not secured a vendor however. Once it is confirmed it will be available for you to view in your cruiseplanner. I do apologize for the inconvenience as I can understand it keeps you from planning your excursions for that day. We do look forward to welcoming you onboard again soon and thank you for sailing with Azamara.”

My travel agent, who had also contacted Azamara, was told the same and, due to the late notice, they will email guests directly or guests will be notified onboard.

So, it seems that Marseilles is indeed correct. At least we know an even is being planned! 😁

    Cheers!
