  1. Thanks for all the great ideas. Amanda, we are staying at the Arlecchino too, so I am especially interested in restaurants in that neighbourhood too. I hear it's a good mixture of local and tourist places there?

  2. Flcruiser3 your story about stumbling around Venice after a few drinks reminds me of a similar story we have from Barcelona. Our first night there we ate at a really charming out of the way restaurant. I had one drink and it was very strong. Then the friendly owner gave us a drink on the house. I don't know if it was unusually strong booze or just my lack of drinking habit but I barely made it home to the Hotel! I was sloshed! DH was OK though, so we made it back to the hotel but since I was the one who was suppose to have the directions it was an interesting walk!

  3. Hello,

I am collecting names of restaurants in venice that are good, reasonably priced and recommended. We tend to stay away from restaurants that are too formal. We are good with eat in or take away. Has anyone had a great meal in Venice and could you share your best meal story? I have heard that Venice can be a gastronomical disappointment but I just know there must be some great places too!

  4. I think Virtual Rain should be commended for sharing his/her experience and putting together a great day where he/she hit many of the Rome Highlights. Yes, it sounds like a bit of a whirlwind and of course some sights were missed but with just one day and a desire to see as much as possible on a tight budget the poster accomplished his mission. To each his own. With these one day itineraries some want to just soak up the culture and maybe hit one or two sights, others want to run about see as much as they can. Just like some like the DIY option and others like the comfort and convenience of a small tour group and don't mind paying the cost. Virtual Rain gives some great tips for the DIY folks! Great pictures too!!

  5. You could try "Share a Shore Excursion" and join up with 2-4 more people, which would bring the cost down considerably and still give you the benefit of a private tour. We used them for Rome and connected, through the website with 3 other couples for the day. I think we ended up paying about 75 euros pp + admission fees. We had a great, personalized day at a good cost and met some nice people too.

  6. Just starting to think about our next cruise and the itineraries I am looking at have Rouen and/or Le Havre. I know you can go into Paris from Le Havre but what else can you see in these areas-especially sights that do not involve lengthy transport from the port?

  7. we used Share a Shore Excursion 2 weeks ago in Rome. They were excellent. Our guide Stephano was very pleasant and knowledgeable. He grew up in Rome and knew how to get around the city quickly so that we could hit our places of interest and make the best use of our time. When we wanted to see some off the beaten track places, he was able to flex the schedule. Good luck with your trip!
