  1. Hello Future Azamara Quest Guests -

Received word today that we will be officially announcing the appointment of Captain José Vilarinho as the Master for the Azamara Quest with Captain Carl Smith, starting with the November 2, 2013 Voyage from Civitavecchia to Seville. As you know, our Captains spend 3 months on and 3 months off, so each ship needs 2 captains.

Most recently he served as Staff Captain on AIDA Cruises' M/V AIDAvita and prior, between 2005 - 2011, as the Master for M/V Athena and M/V Arion. Please stay tuned for an official announcement that will provide more information about his experience and personal history.

    Best regards,

i am glad you are back. but the updates on the Amazing Evening realy sucks. .there seems to be the same event done twice in Cabo and from whati read the same in Panama. .So for people who are on for weeks on end i wil lbe looking for nice dinners out. not like Europe when each cruise was new and exciting events.

really silly on Mia's part. Plus i understand the person in charge got a promation. hmmm!

    Hello Robin -

As a guest on extended voyages I can relate to your disappointment that several of the AzAmazing Evening events will be repeated during your time aboard.

Although our Miami-based planning group has the imagination and experience to create unique custom-tailored AzAmazing Evening events through our network of local tour operators, their success is contingent on three critical success factors:

    1. The geographical area in which we operate, and

    2. The infrastructure available to showcase the cultural highlights such as the available event venues and the transportation resources.

    3. The itinerary arrival and departure times.

In my opinion, our options for greater variety are constrained by our deployment when we are in Mexico, Central and South America. While they are rich in cultural history and influence from ancient civilizations, they are not as multi-dimensional with respect to other special interests as that found in Europe and Asia. Our standard procedure is to avoid repeating events; however, sometimes it is not always possible. Although we considered other alternative options, we found that these were not operational.

I really think you summed up the situation best with your comment - it's "not like Europe when each cruise was new and exciting...."

    Best regards,

Thank you for your words of welcome.

The event will be held on February 20 during the over-night stay in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and will take place at the Wirikuta Garden. 6. Hi Bill, I'm so glad you're feeling well enough to join in the forum again! Librarylady19 (Sandi) and I & respective spouses are on the May 12th sailing from Athens next year. Are we going to have a Sorrento AzAmazing evening on that voyage or something else?

    Hello to you both -

I'm pleased to be back and to share with you the preliminary information about the AzAmazing Evening event planned for the Azamara Journey's May 12, 2014 voyage.

It will be held on Thursday, May 15 in Valletta, Malta and its theme is "Medieval Malta: A Knight on the Town." As you enjoy cocktails and local delicacies, the evening will offer a true Medieval Malta experience - a Grand Master of ceremonies, torches, lances, drummers, trumpeters, and folkloric dancers.

The decision to use Malta was to avoid over-scheduling the overnight stay in Sorrento (Capri) on Saturday, May 17, and compete with the three comprehensive Land Discoveries shore excursions that will take most of the day:

    1. RN01 Pompeii & Capri - 8:45 am, 9 hr(s) 30 min(s)

    2. RN09 Island of Capri - 8:45 am, 7 hr(s) 30 min(s)

    3. RN19 Exclusive Amalfi Coast, Pompeii & Positano - 8:45 am, 9 hr(s) 30 min(s)

I hope this information helps with your planning and builds your anticipation to revisit Azamara!

    Good health & best regards,

  7. We are sailing the Quest beginning 5 Jan from Miami. The Amazing evening is 10 Jan @ 6pm. No info on the evening except it's Panamanian culture. Hope more information will be posted soon. Went ahead and booked it based on past CC info.

Sent from my KFJWI using Forums mobile app

Hello Irisdeane and other followers -

Although I do not have the complete details, the AzAmazing Evening event will held during the overnight stay at Fuerte Amador (Friday, January 10, 2014) with an evening of dance at the historic and prestigious National Theater of Panama in Panama City. The performance, called "The Spirit of Panama," is a tableau whereby the story of Panama comes to life.

According to the latest marketing update, the anticipated date to have the complete AzAmazing Evening events shown on our website is sometime during the week of October 21st.

In the meantime, if you have questions about your specific voyage, I have access to a "near-final" summary list that provides highlights.

    Best regards,

  9. Hello Harry -

I've learned the following from our itinerary planner about the port and shuttle information which I'm pleased to share with you along with the caveat that the information which follows is always subject to change.

First, we do not break-out our individual port fees since that information is confidential.

§ Halong Bay - We dock at Cai Lan Port (Halong Bay) - a 20 minutes drive from the city center. The shuttle drop off point is the Thanh Nien ma Chay Street. Taxis or independent tour operators cannot come inside of the port.

§ Danang - We dock at Tien Sa Port - a 20 minutes drive from the city center. The shuttle drop off point is the Trung Vuong Theatre square. Around drop off you may find an information desk, retail stores, a market and restaurants. There is nothing available at the pier or within walking distance. There is a taxi stand at the port gate but taxis are not always available.

§ Ho Chi Minh City - Contrary to larger vessels, remember we sail up the Saigon River into the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. We dock at Nha Rong Port - a 15 minutes drive from the city center. Nha Rong is a container port. It is 300 meters to the gate from the ship and guests are allowed to walk from the ship to the terminal. The local authority does not provide a free shuttle from the ship to the port gate. There is nothing of interest within walking distance from the ship. The shuttle drop off point is the Tax Department Store (opposite REX Hotel). There are taxis at the port gate, but are not always available.

I hope this information, along with the comments from the other Azamara forum members, helps you wrap-up your final planning for your December Azamara vacation!

    Best regards,

  10. Hi Bill,

I have been trying to find some definitive answers on the port charges/fees. No luck so far. Greatam and John Bull's take on these fees is that there are no set fees.

We will doing the Dec. 9 Journey cruise - Hong Kong to Singapore

Questions for each port in Vietnam - Halong Bay, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City

Will Azamara be providing complimentary shuttle buses for each Vietnamese port?

Does each port authority charge its own fee?

How much does each port charge?

Is it a per person per day charge or a flat fee. Eg. for 2 days - a flat fee or ?

If there are no complimentary shuttle buses:

Are we allowed to walk from dock to outside terminal to save on fees?

What is the walking distance for each port from dock to terminal gate?

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards,

    Harry E.

    Hello Harry -

While I'm seeking information about the business practices of the ports in Vietnam, I wanted to let you know some behind the scenes facts about how our shuttle bus service is offered on each of our voyages.

Actually, the shuttle buses are booked by the ship and it is the vessel's schedule that drives the shuttle decisions. It is not set in advance by our shoreside operation. Further, this information also changes from call to call based on where the ship receives its final berth allocation which happens about 24-48 hours prior to each arrival. Usually we operate shuttle buses about 60-90 minutes after the ship has arrived in a port and/or after the tours have been dispatched. Our first priority is to assist the guests booked on tours and then to focus on the shuttle bus operation.

Please stay tuned for the answers to your specific questions.

Thank you for vacationing with Azamara this December!

    Best regards,

    Hello Scapel -

Yes, there will be an AzAmazing Evening on the Azamara Quest's January 15-29, 2014 voyage. At this point in time, however, I'm not able to share more details about the 2014 AzAmazing Evening planned for that day.

I've been told we're almost complete with the reformulated 2014 program and that I should be able to share more information with you very soon. When I have specific details about the 2014 AzAmazing Evenings program I will share them with you on this thread.

    Hello Taxjam -

  14. Bill, I know our evening will be at the aquarium but looking at the itinerary we do not arrive in Monaco until 7.30 pm on the night of the event. Getting 500+ guests up to the venue may mean a very late start. Not a problem to me, but would appreciate your input.

    Hello Mrs Miggins -

Thanks for your patience. I've learned that departure for the AzAmazing Evening Event at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco will begin as soon as the vessel is cleared.

However, the event will not start until all the participating guests have arrived. That is why the "duration" is defined as "At Your Leisure." Remember that Azamara will have exclusive access to this unique venue and guests can set their own pace as they work their way through the exhibit halls and the various levels of the museum. The transfer time is approximately 15 minutes depending on traffic, which in October is expected to be light. The onboard team is aware of the timing and have planned for the logistics to the venue.

Wishing you a wonderful Azamara vacation and a memorable AzAmazing Evening!

    Best regards,

  15. Hello Three Tenors Concert Considerers -

I'm pleased to confirm that the AzAmazing Evening has been modified. Your feedback has made a difference: the venue is closer to the ship to avoid a long-ride after a day touring and you will be able to have dinner onboard.

    Here is the official description:

A Three Tenors Concert at the Goldoni Theatre

§ This evening you will have the opportunity to enjoy the best of Italian opera music. After a short drive, you will reach the Goldoni Theatre, opened in 1847; it is considered one of the most beautiful and historical Italian theaters and the “home” of Mascagni.

§ Pietro Mascagni is considered one of Livorno’s most noted poets and one of Italy’s most famous composers. Well known for his first masterpiece “Cavalleria Rusticana” which is still played in theatres worldwide.

§ After being escorted to your seats, enjoy an operatic performance by three tenors accompanied by a pianist a favorite of Azamara Club Cruises guests.

    Best regards,

  16. Hello 2014 AzAmazing Evenings Followers -

I want to let you know that although the AzAmazing Evenings review is nearing completion, there are still a few events that are being reworked which may require a shift in the port of operation. Therefore, I'm still not able to confirm when I will have the information to respond to your individual voyage AzAmazing Evening questions.

In my last update, I mentioned the importance of using language that would convey more details about the experience so that you could realistically set your expectations about whether or not to participate. Another important planning consideration is to minimize the scheduling conflict created by the late return of our Land Discoveries shore excursions and the sometimes too early transfer process to the AzAmazing Evenings event. In turn, this has implications on your dining experience. This task is being conducted.

I'm sharing this information with you, not as an excuse, but as a means to illustrate why the process is taking longer than originally a anticipated.

I'm following the progress and will keep you informed when I have facts to share with you. Again, my appreciation for your understanding and patience with my explanation.

    Sincerely,

    Bill Leiber

  17. Captain Carl Smith is leaving the company?

    Hello Jade 13 -

    Absolutely NOT!

The last assigned voyage for Captain Carl Smith for the balance of 2013 is Oct 23. 2013. We don't have the 2014 schedule yet!

I can see that I must make a greater effort to explain myself more clearly. Please put that out of your mind.

Other readers, please disregard this misunderstanding!

  18. Hello Azamara Quest Captain Followers -

Based on today's update from ship operations, I am unable to share with you the name of the new master to be assigned to the Azamara Quest, starting on November 2, 2013.

Right now, Captain Carl Smith is serving as the Master of the Azamara Quest with his last assignment being the October 23rd voyage.

In the interim, Host Andy will be posting the schedule through the balance of this year for the Hotel Director and Cruise Director.

Also, remember the ever-present disclaimer that all schedules are subject to change and thanks for your patience.

    Best regards,

  19. Hello 2014 AzAmazing Evenings Followers -

Throughout this thread I've been sharing with you that the target date for having the final 2014 AzAmazing Evening Events up on our website would be at the end of August. I've learned late today (Thursday) that our Global Tour Operations team will require more time to complete the review process. In turn, that will impact the timing required for loading the information into our reservation system.

I'm sorry to be reporting this target date change which was based on the information that I had received. I can understand why some of you will be disappointed with delay. At this time, I'm unable to report to you when the information will be available online and will not engage in any speculation about the timing at this point. I expect to have more definitive information sometime on Friday or Monday.

What I can share with you is that the review of the 2014 AzAmazing Evenings events was not a cursory tweaking of the program ingredients, but rather a thorough reformulation of the content of each evening event based on guest feedback and satisfaction scores. Doing so required more time in development.

Remember that all Azamazing Evenings are not purchasable anywhere except with Azamara. Each is truly unique, created by us for the unique enjoyment of our guests. Some have a "wow-factor" while others do not and lean toward cultural "experiences" consistent with our destination orientation. Yet all are exclusive and have different appeals depending on one's interest. Going forward, our tour descriptions will feature a more focused detailed-experience explanation that offers you the opportunity to determine (based on your own value system) if "it's not to be missed" or "not your cup of tea." You've asked us to tone down the hype.

Simply, guest satisfaction will be a function of setting your expectations correctly by using language that conveys more experience details.

It is within this context that I'm hoping you'll be able to muster some more patience. We learned it's more important to present information that is accurate the first-time its presented.

During this interim period, I'm working with our AzAmazing team developers to obtain the final and approved 2014 schedule. At that point I will be able to respond to your individual voyage question with the Day, Port, and hopefully the Start time. By having that information you can begin to purchase your shore excursions and take advantage of booking the tour at its current pricing along with the 25% LDS savings.

I'll be advising you when I will receive that document on this thread so that you can begin sending me your questions about your specific voyage (date & vessel).

In the meantime, I'll get back to you with a new "target" date so that you can begin to access the complete 2014 AzAmazing Evening schedule and book online. I will do so on this thread and title them 2014 AZAMAZING UPDATES.

I hope this interim procedure to secure your AzAmazing Evening information will help you in booking your shore excursions and perhaps demonstrate our commitment to help you structure and enjoy the experience of creating your "own" Azamara cruise vacation.

    Best regards,

    Bill Leiber

  20. We will be on the Azamara Journeu on act/Nov and I would love to be able to have caffeine free diet coke. What about it Azamara?

    Hello Grandma cruising -

I learned from the Bar Manager on the Azamara Journey that in addition to Diet Coke and Diet Sprite there is occasionally a limited supply of caffeine-free Diet Coke, but that depends on the market where the vessel is operating and whether the product is available for local purchase.

On page 2 of this thread, I replied to this question and informed the readers that their comments would be forwarded to our Vice President of Hotel Operations for his review and consideration in creating a global policy. Here is a link to that page: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1874777&page=2

Here are key points from my July 7, 2013 response:

§ It seems the issue's focus is the limited variety of soft drinks offered and the procedure for guests to request their personal preferences.

§ Unlike a supermarket, our degree of flexibility is limited by the timing and delivering of our pre-determined orders that we receive at various ports of call during each vessel's operation.

§ Sometimes, we may be or not be able to purchase some items in the local market.

§ Further, the platform for operating and managing our alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage products is a function of our automated inventory management and Point of Sale (electronic cash register) systems. Therefore, when special requests are fulfilled, there will be variances in both the inventory and accounting systems.

§ There is a process in place for guests to request their preferences. It starts with making your request through reservations (or in the UK through customer service @ azamaraservice.uk@rccl.com.)

    o
Your special request is added to your booking record and forwarded to the Azamara beverage team; however, that does not mean that it is guaranteed.

    o
The vessel may be able to fulfill your request, but it very much depends on the geographical area of operation and the amount of prior notice provided.

    Update:

At this point in time, the policy is still under consideration. The challenge is to set realistic guest expectations related to the list of products that can be ordered. It will be contingent on whether the product is available locally. For example, guests wanting Dr. Pepper on a cruise leaving from Bali is unlikely to happen because flying special requests around the world will not be an option.

In the meantime, I will be in contact with the Hotel Operations to follow their progress on a final soft-drink policy, which I expect will be forthcoming within the next 30 days.

Once I have the details, I will share them on the forum and I appreciate your patience while we fine-tune the program.

We do look forward to welcoming you onboard later this year.

    Sincerely,

    Bill Leiber

  23. :confused:Is there an Azamazing eving scheduled for this cruise?

    Hello Ctbx1 -

I'm sorry for your confusion and I'm pleased to inform you that there definitely will be AzAmazing Evening offered on the Azamara Quest's October 12, 2014 voyage - Holy Lands & Journey of St. Paul.

I've mentioned earlier on this thread that the final AzAmazing Evening Events for 2014 are under review by our global operations team prior to posting on the website. The target is to have them available on the website by end of August.

I hope this helps in your decision making and brings you some peace of mind in the interim.

    Best regards,

    Bill Leiber

  24. Has the azamazing event been planned for the Quest sailing leaving Nice on Oct 16th? Is there any information available online?

    Hello Gagrl123 -

Yes, there is an AzAmazing Evening event planned for the Azamara Quest departing on October 16, 2013 from Nice. You can access "AzAmazing Evening" events several ways from the US/Canada websites:

#1 / "FIND A VOYAGE" Tab on the top of the Home Page and then follow template to complete voyage data; be sure to click "Iti9nerary & Booking" tab on the right side:

AzAmazing Evening in Monte Carlo: A Night at the Oceanographic Museum—October 17, 2013. Spend an evening at a private party in the famous museum affiliated with Prince Albert and overseen for many years by Jacques Cousteau. Tour the aquarium and collections, sip wine and nibble on canapés, and enjoy the rooftop terrace with views of the harbor below.

This link provides details within the context of the itinerary. Here is a link: http://www.azamaraclubcruises.com/view-cruise-itinerary/7-night-principality-to-vatican-voyage_QS07M191-1381896000

#2 / "AZAMAZING EVENINGS” Box located mid-way on Home Page which takes you to "Special Offers" > Azamazing Evenings.

Here you have access to three Tabs:

    1. "View Our 2013 Azamazing Evenings Brochure"

    2. "Book Your Azamazing Evenings Event"

    3. "View AzAmazing Evenings Videos"

This link provides details and a link to actually book your specific event.

#3 / "PLAN YOUR VOYAGE" Tab on the top right of the Home Page:

This will take you to a drop-down menu that lists "AzAmazing Evenings." Click on that link and the information that is shown on the "Special Offers" link shown above (#2) will appear.

It seems that I'm a very "talkative" GPS but in my opinion either #1 or #2 are the two best routes.

We're looking forward to welcoming you onboard.

    Best regards,

    Bill Leiber

  25. Hello Azamara Quest Captain Followers -

Based on an update from ship operations, it might take another 4-6 weeks (mid-September) until we will be able to share with you the name of the new master assigned to the Azamara Quest.

As previously reported, Captain Carl Smith will serve as the Master of the Azamara Quest starting with the August 28th voyage and ending with the October 23rd voyage.

I appreciate your patience. Once the balance of 2013 is set and reconfirmed, Host Andy will post the entire schedule. Also, remember that all schedules are subject to change.

    Best regards,

    Bill Leiber
