I had the same question, so am glad for the answer. The markup seems rather extraordinary, so I guess I will go ahead and book on my own with outside vendors. Yes, I was hoping for better from RC- got it from Seabourne, but hey, growing pains.

My brother was asked to produce a letter to go on an RC excursion from Alaska into Canada- he did not have one, was not allowed to go on the excursion. I was asked for a letter to board a Caribbean Cruise once (out of several trips). Since I had it, they allowed us to board. I do wonder if one can be produced and emailed or faxed to the pier if someone forgot to bring it with them.

We did on 2 different chartered cruises.

I always transfer mine to the TA that offers the best perks. There is a really easy way to do the comparison via a website that has TA's compete for your cruise business. I've gotten some great deals this way, and never had a problem or bad service. I have heard that there is a similar website/service for resorts as well, but have not tried it. Good luck, and Bon Voyage!

Bon Voyage! And I'd help you pack if you lived nearby. Have a wonderful trip.

Great idea for Star Class cocktail party- please let us know how that goes. Maybe we'll try hosting one in November.
Love Genie Margaret's Facebook page- she nicely documented the training and startup process they all went through the past few weeks. Quite fun, and she seems very excited. Quite a few good photos.
Now for a question I did not see documented here- do you think the genies will help organize private tours? I know they will book us on the RCCL excursions, but will they book us via private vendors? I would love to get a water taxi over to St. John rather than catch the ferry. And can anyone who has utilized them comment on whether they are able to pack us picnic lunches to go to secluded beaches? I know in the USVI we are allowed to take food off the ship, so that should not be a barrier as it is in Mexico or other foreign ports. TY in advance for anyone with any info.

Agree with the above posters that it has everything to do with sitting with new people amenable to making new friends- that just does not happen in any location, despite the 'free drink' coupons. In the lounge, you see the same people night after night, and on the best cruises, the furniture gets moved around to make larger and larger circles as the week goes on. That is what it is really about, and RCCI is doing itself a real disservice by limiting access. They should be making the lounges larger as they did on the Anthem.

Even more fun and informative is to befriend a crew member and get invited to their parties and their off-boat adventures. Yes, it is done, and it is really fun! And yes, they notice the individual passengers, and do talk about you. Just as the passengers talk about the crew members......

Did this just start? I was on the Anthem in March in a loft suite, and the genie was so magic that he was invisible. Never heard a word about the program during the cruise. Sounds like a nice program, but I would not want that job!

Vintages is very nice, with a great selection, but we loved Michael's pub for the beer selection and food. Bionic Bar was great fun, and actually made a mean drink! Enjoy your cruise- I really loved that ship.

There has been much talk on how crowded the suite lounges have been lately and how suite guests themselves have been turned away. Unless it's an unusually light week, they may be pretty picky about who they let in. Enjoy the long sailing!

Isn't Jewel also getting Voom during this dry-dock?

We always take a 3 port USB hub, plus European adapters to use the European outlets- get a couple more outlets in the room this way.

We ordered from CK on the Anthem, and it was quick and hot, though an item or two did not arrive. It was fabulous!

Great Review, Matt! We were on the same cruise and were so busy we had no time to post anything fun. Ate at the same 3 places you did, and agree about Wonderland- it was fabulous. Also loved Micahel's for lunch, and the Bionic bar makes a mean cocktail. I too hate heights, but thoroughly enjoyed Northstar- even saw a whole bunch of Dolphins frolicking around from way up top. The shows were very entertaining, and Stephen on guitar in Michael's was excellent. The lounges without the snacks were not The same- few people were hanging out socializing with each other, which we missed as we tend to like meeting other cruisers in those venues. Some P members actually were "scolded" for bringing their own appys into the Suite lounge!
Did anyone else notice the aft elevator that would drop you off at the floor it wanted to, not the one you actually pressed? It would stop a floor above or below the one you pressed, then if you pressed the floor you actually wanted, it would light up initially and go right off. We found it amusing by the end, and would just get off and walk to the floor we wanted. It was the floor with some sort of bird in it- we called it the dodo bird elevator.

Great, now you jinxed it.:cool::D
Nope, not at all. Just cast a good witch spell on it declaring the bad luck streak over.

It has been a perfectly lovely cruise so far- I am beyond thankful that we sailed south! Seas were a tad rocky Friday, but absolutely wonderful today. A little chilly going on Northstar this morning, but very sunny and clear- saw a large school of dolphins frolicking around the side of the ship from 300 ft up in the air.
In speaking with Abe on Friday when we first realized we were sailing south, he said that there are exceptions made due to weather (whatever that means).
Overall, we are having a great time, and looks like most others are too. Biggest complaints seem to be about the lack of time to do all of the activities, esp Northstar and Ripcord, which could not run on Friday due to weather. People with canceled reservations want to be worked in at the expense of those with existing reservations. The crew is doing their best- they have shortened the ride by not pivoting off to the sides, but people are still complaining. Just can't please people!
The entertainment and shows have been great, and tons of things to do. Dined at CK and Jamie's and Michael's so far, Wonderland tonight and all have been good, esp the burgers at Michaels and steaks at CK. Boleros has been hopping, and Stephen on guitar is a lot of fun. Poolside now with a Stella- life is good! SO glad I jumped on this opportunity, and would do it again in a heartbeat.
Anthem's bad luck streak is over!

The scheduling of the surgery will depend upon your surgeon's schedule, his block time in the OR, and the cases already scheduled in the OR. Since this is elective surgery, there may be some wait time as elective surgeries are scheduled well in advance. To lessen the wait, you can be flexible as to where you have the surgery performed, or go with one of your surgeon's partners that can get you in at an earlier date. Obvioiusly, letting your surgeon know you have a cruise scheduled may help in getting you to the head of the line as well! Good luck, speedy recovery, and have a fabulous cruise.

TSA PreCheck and Global Entry are 2 separate programs and fees, with 2 separate numbers, and 2 different interviews. GOES interviews seem to be at the airport, TSA interviews are conducted at private facilities. Both are easy and quick to do provided you are able to set up the interview quickly. And both rock!

Nice photos! Also reminded me to pack the European adapter for the outlet- gain another outlet that way! Good to the the USB ports as well.

Thanks, all. I've seen everything from a dusting to 5-10 inches Friday or Saturday. Don't know what to believe, but I plan on getting on the ship and having fun! I am just concerned about RCCL cancelling as well, only because of all the bad press lately and not wanting to gather more negative attention. The Anthem is under the microscope right now, even though other ships have been sailing in the same storms without any media hounding them.
-
Does anyone know what the weather prediction is for the path the Anthem is taking this weekend? I know NY is expecting some snow; does this have any bearing on what to expect on the ship?

Unfortunately, Norovirus is notorious for not being susceptible to the hand sanitizers. I think it gives people a false sense of security using the gels and sprays at every turn. The hand washing station is a great idea, if only people would utilize it correctly.

We had a fabulous Maine Lobster in Vintages during the wine pairings dinner with no up charge. There was a fee for the pairings dinner, however.
