OK, so I read this thread til this end, then kinda beat myself up for doing that. WHY DOES ANYONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND CARE WHAT ANYONE ELSE IS DOING WHEN IT COMES TO FOOD ON CRUISE SHIPS?????
-
We no longer complete any of their surveys. I don't work for RCI and my time is valuable. I feel it's their duty to provide the best food and service. When I did do surveys there was zero changes made so why should I waste my time. Just MHO.
This. Every time I purchase something, go somewhere, etc, I get asked to fill out a survey. I don't have enough time in my life to fill out surveys every time I experience something! And I agree- I never perceive any changes being made in response to the surveys, so why should I waste my time? Especially if the surveys are not being used in the way the questions are worded: anything but a 5 is a fail? Not right. So if I actually have a strong opinion about something, good or bad, I will let them know.

They do X-ray your bags with the machine that shows items very clearly. I do know that any type of handcuffs are not allowed- not even furry ones. Have fun!

So true. Also add some pictures of the sagging, very wrinkled leathery faces. There is one lady on our cruise right now who is always in the sun that has that kind of face, except she has overdone botex. You can still see the wrinkle lines and leathery skin, but now it's just puffed out. She is way past the botex stage and she really shouldn't be in a pool chair in the sun.
Why do you feel the need to judge people? It is NONE of your business as to how she chooses to live her life, in the sun or not. How would you feel if someone publicly commented on something that you are doing?

Is the ResidenSea still around? A boat practically full of condos...
Last time I looked, yes. But that is an entirely different concept than just booking a cabin on a regular cruise ship. It looks amazing, and I would love to book ResidenSea for at least a few years.... am seriously considering it.

I haven't played bingo on the last few cruises, but the last time I did play, I split the jackpot bingo with another winner- we each took home close to $5k. Think it was 2, maybe 3 years ago, and I won it with one of the machines (which I like.) About 12 years ago, I also split a Bingo jackpot, and collected a little over $3k. But would I play for $2k, at these new prices? Probably not.

European outlet adapters so that you can use all of the outlets in the cabin.

I'll have to remember to bring a polo shirt to return that we bought a few cruises ago- our fault for not trying it on, but when we did after we got home we realized one sleeve was significantly longer and wider than the other. Kinda funny in a way, but since both of my arms are roughly the same size, it is pretty comical!

We were in a SLS last November, and loved our Genie. He made all of our reservations, waited for us at the shows (saving front row seats, getting us drinks), escorted us off the ship at all ports, etc. Also made sure our fridge was full of Stellas and champagne, and coconut rangers for the boys every day. Helped set up a large dinner party in CK one night as well. Checked in with us daily, and was always easily accessible by phone. Loop didn't seem to work all that well for us, but the phone was perfect. Also invited us to a quick meet & greet with the MM cast members one night after the show- that was a nice surprise. Tipped him $500 for the 3 of us for the week. Loved every second of it, and can't wait to sail in the OLS this July, where we may ask even more of the Genie since we are traveling with lots of family to celebrate a big birthday.
BTW, does anyone have photos of the OLS on the Allure? Can't seem to find many pics of that cabin either. TIA!

For my gf's 50th birthday, I had shirts made up with her photo, and the back said "The Queen is 50!" Her t-shirt said "I am the Queen." She has a great sense of humor, so she loved the attention. I also gave her funny cards every day of the week, hidden in different places. Managed to set her up to be a poolside judge for the sexiest man contest. Had her room decorated prior to boarding (but they decorated the wrong room, so we had to divert her while we redid it!) We also had the concierge help us plan a pre-dinner cocktail party on her actual birthday. Got the waiters involved in the MDR with a cake and singing. In general, just did a series of little things here and there to amuse and embarrass her. What are friends for? But she loved it all!

Cucumber, Jalapeño Margarita from Sabor
My fave too! And the bacon Bloody Marys from the pub are awesome too.

So my kid is about the same age as yours. On our last cruise on Princess, it was near Xmas time so Princess had a gingerbread house decorating contest.
Plus they offered something called "Junior Chef" through the kid's center where the kids learned how to bake and decorate cakes. Then not only did the kids decorate their own cakes, but those cakes were then served to the family in the MDR that night as dessert. (There was a modest up-charge for this. Maybe around $25.)
Your kid will be fine!

This is so awesome! So happy to find this thread- we are heading to Scandinavia this summer on Princess with our 9 year old, and are so looking forward to it, esp after seeing the comments on this thread. We usually sail on RCI, but are so looking forward to this umber cruise on Princess. Thanks, all!

Thanks, Bob! That was def it- they were TA OBCs.

After one of our cruises, we had $1.82 OBC left but decided to just forget such a small amount. The following month, it showed up as a credit on my credit card statement. I was pleasantly surprised! :)
I had the same pleasant experience with a few bucks more, but still surprised. Can anyone tell us what the difference is between refundable and non- refundable OBCs are? I thought mine were non-refundable, but there it was.

It's your vacation- enjoy it any way you would like! Personally I do what I like on "my balcony" (mostly sunbathing in alternative swimsuits), and if others insist on "watching out for me so that I don't get too much sun," then I just ignore them. I also enjoy sleeping out on the balcony in the Caribbean breeze, and I've never been bothered. I feel that as long as I am not annoying or judging anyone else, why should they bother or judge me?

I was told the same thing, no egg crates or mattress toppers. The reason I was given is they have problems with the cleaning, the cost, trying to get them back on the ship because the ship doesn't have the equipment to clean them. I was advised to bring my own.

I do know that we have stopped using the egg crate type padding in the hospitals due to infection risks. Everything used now is single use, and exorbitantly expensive. While it's good to know RC is interested in infection control, it stinks that they have not made alternative arrangements for folks that truly need the extra cushioning. Bottom line is that if one truly needs it, you should bring your own, or make arrangements to have it delivered to the stateroom in advance. If I were in charge of RC, I'd make it a service to all that requested it (but no one asked me!).

They won't let him in. It's why we are steering away from a cruise next year. My son will be a senior in high school, but 18. I don't think he would be comfortable going to a mixer for young adults, but won't be let in to the teen clubs.
Yes, he is in that in between stage. I agree that a cruise vacation is probably not the best choice this year.

Oh, and on the Lifestyle Cruises? You'll never see more dressed up people- everyone is dressed beautifully every night for dinner.
-
Now I'm starting to feel guilty that men and kids in shorts in the MDR don't bother me in the least.
-
The medical units on RC's ships are actually quite impressive- they are essentially fully equipped intensive care units. I've seen an alpha call response to a poolside pax, bleeding out (presumably from esophageal varices). He was intubated poolside, and the next thing you know there are overhead announcements asking for blood donations. A whole lot of other pax responded, and they did manage to keep the patient alive overnight, but he unfortunately expired the next day.

We tried decorating friend's cabin for her birthday- they got it wrong and decorated our cabin instead. Should probably just bring your own decorations and do it yourself.
-
Thank you! I will try this approach. Makes sense.

So I emailed my TA when the last sale was on, asking if they could do a price check for me, trying to save a little dinero. They came back with the answer that since there is only one cabin in this category on the Allure, that there was no way to know if there was a price reduction. Seemed odd to me. Does anyone have any experience with this? TYIA for any information.

I got a call a few days before the last cruise in November, and I excitedly answered as I saw the caller ID announce it was Royal Caribbean. Expecting an upgrade, or at least an upsell attempt, imagine my disappointment when the conversation was over and it turned out to be only a "bon voyage, enjoy your cruise" phone call. Has this happened to anyone else? It was a first for me. I hung up SMH, wondering what just happened.

We had Daniel on the Allure back in Nov- he was fabulous. Anyone know who will be on the Allure in July?
