  1. It was me who had my van broken into at the port while on our cruise on the epic in January. They stole my sons Xbox, and his games an damaged the back window of the van.

We were told by the police that they get calls daily from problems at the off site parking but ours was the first call they have had at the port in a year and a half.

We got notice this week that they caught the two men that broke into our van. It will be a couple of months before we hear anything else, but were told not to hold our breath about getting any money out of them.

Booked a cruise on the getaway next year and will park there again but will not be leaving any valuables behind this time!

  2. Sorry to hear but what are people doing leaving $1000 worth of xbox and a laptop in this day and age. It seems we spend more time worrying about how safe the ports are that we visit than our own backyard. And Canada is no different we see car break- ins almost every day in Toronto.

Glad to hear that you had a great cruise on the Epic.

Maybe we were being naive, we come from a small community north of Toronto and do not have things like this happen.

I didn't post what happened to get scolded about what we did wrong, I posted it so others could learn from our mistakes.

  3. Just returned from a awesome vacation despite several mishaps along the way. I will write a full review once I'm settled, but wanted to let people know what happened at the port of Miami.

When we got of the ship early Saturday morning so we could start our long journey driving back home to Ontario Canada, we discovered our van had been broken into while parked at the port. Security has footage of the person who pried the back window open and climbed in but they don't know who it was.

They took my sons Xbox and all his accessories, valued over $1000, plus damaged our window that we had to drive home with bungee cords and duck tape.

Ironically they also broke into a car a few down from us, and it was the lady's vehicle that I met while on board getting our hair done. They broke her windows and stole her laptop.

The police were waiting for us to arrive back and had already taken pictures and had a report started. I mentioned to them that I was always reading how it was safer to leave your vehicle at the port vs at a lot offsite. He responded by saying it was the first theft they have had there in over a year, but they get reports everyday at the off site lots.

It was an awful way to end the vacation and my son who worked all summer to buy his Xbox with his own money is very upset.

I had insurance with CAA but apparently only for medical, the ncl insurance I bought only covers for theft in board or during a flight booked with them. Our home and vehicle insurance will cover the theft and damage but we would have to make 2 claims and 2 deductibles so we are not doing that.

We should have not left our valuables in the van, but have parked there several times an never had an issue.

My son had brought his game to play in the van to while we were driving, and to use for the week while we were in Florida visiting family before the cruise.

  4. Friends of ours were scheduled to fly out of Syracuse to Fort Lauderdale friday for our cruise this Saturday out of Miami on the epic. Major snowstorm happening so their flight was cancelled this morning. We are already in Florida as we drove here. You can imagine their panicked call to us this morning trying to figure out how they were going to get here. We live in Ontario Canada.

They ended up getting a flight out of buffalo for tomorrow night into Fort Lauderdale. We are keeping our fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly and i have promised them a big drink when they get here!

I always read on here to never fly in on the same day as the cruise, well I personally believe, especially in the winter to arrive a couple of days in advance.

  5. We did the tour in Belize a few years ago, and booked through ncl because of it being such a long tour, and tendering and we were worried about making it back on time.

We ended up have problems with the motor on our tour and for a while it looked like we might not make it back in time for the last tender! The rep from ncl that was on the boat with us said we would have to meet up with the ship the next day in Mexico if we did not make it back in time. He said that the ship cannot wait too long as it costs more money for them to be there in port and delays them so they need to speed up which also costs more.

We did end up making it back to the ship in time thank goodness! But I too was under the impression that booking directly with ncl would make it a safer option as far as not missing the ship!

  6. Wow, what a review! I think I need to book the EPIC!!

We are booked on the Sun for January 2012, and I think I read somewhere that you were booked for October on the Sun. It would be awesome to read all about your experience on that ship as well. Thanks so much for your time and effort putting this review together - NCL should be thanking you for all the people you have sent to book the Epic!

    Happy sailing everyone!
