  1. Thank all for the links.

Darn, we have another ship in port that day :(

I did notice one thing, the link from the visitTCI for the ATV was a lot higher than the excursion from HAL. How much are the golf carts and can you get around most of the island with them?

  2. Hello all,

We are new to HAL and have been thinking of booking a March cruise on Nieuw Statendam. I have been reading the reviews for Koningsdam being sister ships... I have noticed several themes/complaints and wanted feedback.

    1) The thing EVERYONE is complaining about is having to sit sidesaddle on the toilet. Is it really that bad?

    2) The Lido buffet. As described, it is more like a cafeteria then a buffet since they have people serve ing the food up. That I can understand. It slows the spread of Nora-virus (did I spell that right?), but it slows down getting your food way too much. One reviewer said to avoid the Lido at all cost... Thoughts?

    3) Canaletto: One person described it as a glass portioned off section of the Lido buffet with not much better food. I noticed from the deck plans that it sort of is in / very near the buffet. How is the food?

    4) Speaking of up charge restaurants, where can I find out how much the up-charge is?

    5) Age demographic... Someone was complaining about having to constantly dodging motorized scooters and old ladies with walkers. Is it really that bad or was that guy being a jerk? ;p

    6) Another complaint was lack of entertainment after 10:00. Even though my friends and I are not normally up at 2:00 am drinking... Is there anything to do after 10:00? We have an 86 years young dancer coming on the trip... She's a hell raiser...

    7) People have mentioned that the TV has a great movie selection. Are these free and on demand? Or is it a movie channel that has good variety?

    8) How is the main dining room handled? Is it first come/first seated, or assigned table/time? I have seen both...

I might have more questions later.

  3. Hello,

My friends and I are new to HAL. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the single cabins on Koningsdam. We are assuming that any insights would equally apply to Nieuw Statendam.

I will be in the cabin by myself so the Single cabins appear nice. However my friend pointed out that the square footage of a Inside/Inside cabin is larger, and is cheaper. Granted the Single cabins have a window, however they all appear to be on deck one, forward, under the World Stage.

Any insights or suggestions for this? Are the Singles smaller and not worth the extra money?

  4. Would it not be better for a cruise line to have a single travel in a room instead of leaving it empty & not get anything for it. It's nice to see the new Pinnacle class have rooms for singles.

    Allan

I am looking at Koingdam and was amused that the solo cabins (Ocean view) were more expensive that the interior. The interior is also not going at the full 200% (IE full double occupancy) but somewhere around 150%

They should offer you the upgrade at the 150% price, not the 200%

  5. Bring you tablets, kindels etc, if you like books bring your own, this is the way of the future.
From the headlines I have been seeing, you might not be able to bring your Kindle, or at least your laptop... Besides, if the publishers are going to charge me almost the same price for the Kindle version as they do a physical book, I'm getting the book.

Here is a suggestion, bring a book with you and if you finish it before the end of your cruise, donate it to the library...

  6. Thank you for all your replies. Hmm, we have much to think about.

As far as onboard entertainment, we have seen the gamut. From Disney (three Broadway quality shows per cruise) to NCL Pride of America (not even going there, that bad...). I am personaly very interested in the BB King Blues, but I think my friends would be "yuck" (a Tony Orlando fan and a music hater...) That doesn't mean I have to be tied to their hip :-)

  7. Hello all,

My friends and I are contiplating taking our first HAL cruise. As my signature states I have sailed on Disney, NCL, Carnival, and RCCL. I was wondering how the lines compared.

I wasn't overly impressed with Carnival and I know that they own HAL...
